Paul O'Donovan and Fintan McCarthy to go head-to-head in World Rowing Cup Double Sculls final in Lucerne
Olympic gold medallists Paul O'Donovan and Fintan McCarthy's respective crews will go head-to-head in the men's double sculls A final at the World Rowing Cup in Lucerne, Switzerland after advancing from their semi-final heat.
McCarthy - with whom three-time Olympic medallist O'Donovan won back-to-back golds in the lightweight double sculls at Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 - and team-mate Konan Pazzaia won the second semi-final heat in a time of 06:11.43, having led from the start.
They will be in Lane 3 for Sunday's final, while O'Donovan and Daire Lynch - a bronze medallist from the Paris Games - will line up in the sixth lane after overtaking British pair James Gare and Tobias Schroder to take third in the same semi-final heat in 06:14.32.
Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Fiona Murtagh is also into an A final in the women's single sculls after winning her heat. She will face Great Britain's Lauren Henry in Sunday's decider.
Tiarnán O'Donnell and Sadhbh Ní Laoghaire claimed a bronze medal in the A Final of the PR3 mixed double sculls, having raced in the PR3 category due to a lack of entries in their own PR2 classification.
In the lightweight women's single sculls A final, Siobhán McCrohan finished fifth with a strong finish seeing her jump ahead of Peru's Valeria Palacios with Austria's Lara Tiefenthaler taking gold.
Alison Bergin finished fourth in the D final of the women's single scull, finishing fourth with a time of 07:58.51 while Mags Cremen and Zoe Hyde will compete in the women's double scull B final on Sunday after finishing fourth in their semi-final.

McCartney into another final at Euro U23 Championships, Walshe and McSharry in the mix in Rome
ELLIE MCCARTNEY HAS reached another final at the European U23 swimming championships in Slovakia, while Mona McSharry and Ellen Walshe are in the mix for medals at the Sette Colli International in Rome. McCartney, who has already won a gold and bronze medal in Slovakia, will have a chance at another medal as top seed in Saturday evening's 200m Breaststroke Final. After a strong showing in the heats with 2:28.07, McCartney will take the centre lane for the final at 5.03pm (Irish time) as the fastest of all competitors. Advertisement Meanwhile in Rome, Mona McSharry was also racing the 200m Breaststroke. The Olympic medallist also advanced as the top seed to the final in 2:25.93. Both McSharry and McCartney are preparing to race the event at the World Championships next month. Walshe competed in both the 200m Butterfly and 200m Individual Medley this morning in Rome.
