Macca's worker's unhinged rant day before stabbing boss

News.com.au13-07-2025
Just days before a McDonald's employee allegedly stabbed her manager to death, she posted an unhinged rant on Instagram about her 'bully' boss.
Afeni Muhammad, 26, has been charged with murder after she allegedly stabbed her manager, Jennifer Harris, 39, at least 15 times at a McDonald's in Detroit, Michigan, on Thursday.
Two days earlier, she took to social media to vent her anger over being sent home for her performance two days in a row.
'I got sent home early yesterday. I got sent home early today by the same person,' Muhammad said in the Instagram reel, posting from her account @officialrisenphoenix.
'I'm telling you, she's a bully. This sh** isn't funny … She needs to understand that just because she's a mother and got children, that doesn't mean she can come in the store disrespecting people, talking like everybody is beneath her. She has no respect and it isn't funny at all.'
Muhammad's alleged victim was a single mother of six who had been working at McDonald's for 15 years.
'Like, seriously, man, I got sh** I need to take care of and she keeps sending me home early … she's playing games,' Muhammad continued her foul-mouthed rant.
She then claimed her boss played 'racial sh**', spread negative energy and gossiped about people, before saying, 'That sh**s gonna have to stop'.
'Then she tell me I am snapping on people. No, no, no, that's false, I don't snap on people. I don't go doing that. No, I make peace. I've been creating peace,' she added.
After Ms Harris apparently sent Muhammad home again a second time, police say she told her boss, 'I'll be back,' before she went to her car and retrieved a kitchen knife.
When she re-entered the fast-food restaurant, witnesses say she was wearing a mask.
A drive-through customer witnessed the attack and fired a shot into the air to try to stop it, police reported.
Muhammad reportedly tried to escape but was stopped by the customer before her arrest by police.
The alleged murderer appeared in court on Friday and is held on a $25 million ($A38 million) bail.
She is charged with first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a dangerous weapon with intent.
The McDonald's franchise owner stated: 'We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident, and our hearts go out to the victim's family and loved ones.
'Violence of any kind is unacceptable in my restaurants, and we are taking this matter extremely serious, as the safety and wellbeing of our employees and customers is our top priority. We are fully co-operating with law enforcement as they conduct their investigation, and the restaurant will remain closed until further notice.'
Muhammad's lawyer said that she is a high school graduate currently taking online physical therapy classes. She is also an aspiring rapper.

11 people stabbed in US Walmart store in ‘random' attack

At least 11 people have been injured at a Walmart in the US after a man entered the store and allegedly used a 'folding knife' to stab people in what police said appeared to be a 'random' attack. The incident occurred at a Walmart in Traverse City, 410 kilometres from Detroit, in Michigan about 4.45pm Saturday (US time), with the attack initially starting near the checkout area of the store, police said. A 42-year-old Michigan man has been taken into custody. 'Based on the information that we have at this time, it appears they were random acts,' Grand Traverse County Sheriff Michael Shea said at a press conference. 'The victims were not predetermined,' Sheriff Shea said, adding that the suspect apparently acted alone and used a 'folding knife'. He said citizens in the Walmart 'assisted' in apprehending the suspect. 'Eleven is 11 too many, but thank God it wasn't more.' He added violence is 'very uncommon for our area'. Six victims were in critical condition late on Saturday, and five were in serious condition, Munson Healthcare said in a statement. At least three of the victims were undergoing surgery, according to Shea. The victims included six men and five women. 'Blood everywhere' Eyewitness Julia Martell told The New York Times she heard screaming and saw a man with a knife running through the store's pharmacy section. Ms Martell said she saw the man shoving and stabbing people as he moved through the store. The 30-year-old witness described seeing three people with stab wounds and 'blood everywhere.' Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said she was in touch with law enforcement regarding the 'horrible news.' 'Our thoughts are with the victims and the community reeling from this brutal act of violence,' Ms Whitmer said in an X post. Walmart condemned the 'unacceptable' act of violence in a statement. 'Our thoughts are with those who were injured, and we're thankful for the swift action of first responders,' it said. Traverse City is a popular tourist destination located on the shore of Lake Michigan. FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said agents were providing 'any necessary support to the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office in their investigation of the attacks at the Walmart.'

Eleven people stabbed at a Walmart in Michigan, suspect in custody

At least 11 people have been stabbed at a Walmart in the US state of Michigan, in what the county sheriff says appears to have been a random act of violence. A suspect is in custody and six of the victims are in a critical condition, according to authorities in Traverse City, in the state's north. "Eleven is 11 too many, but thank God it wasn't more," Grand Traverse County Sheriff Michael Shea told reporters gathered at the scene. He added that the weapon used in the attack appeared to have been a folding-style knife, and that the suspect was believed to have been a Michigan resident. Emergency vehicles and uniformed first responders were seen outside the department store following the incident. Tiffany DeFell, 36, who lives in Honor, about 40 kilometres from Traverse City, said she was in the car park when she saw chaos erupt around her. "It was really scary. Me and my sister were just freaking out," she said. "This is something you see out of the movies. It's not what you expect to see where you're living." A spokesperson for Munson Healthcare, which runs the region's largest hospital, said 11 people were being treated for stab wounds, with six of them critical and five in a serious condition as of Saturday evening, local time. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said she was getting updates from police about the "horrible news". "Our thoughts are with the victims and the community reeling from this brutal act of violence," she said. Walmart also said in a statement it would continue to work closely with law enforcement in the investigation. FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said in a social media post that bureau officials were responding to "provide any necessary support". Traverse City is a popular vacation spot on the coast of Lake Michigan, in the state's north. It is known for its cherry festival, wineries and lighthouses, and is about 40 kilometres east of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. AP

‘Happy Face Killer' wants Bryan Kohberger as potential cellmate

Don't miss out on the headlines from World. Followed categories will be added to My News. America's 'Happy Face Killer' Keith Jesperson says he wants to be prison bunkmates with Bryan Kohberger, who was sentenced this week to life without parole for murdering four University of Idaho students in 2022. Jesperson, incarcerated for life for killing at least eight women between January 1990 and March 1995, wrote in a letter to a podcaster and former prison minister Keith Rovere, who shared the note with Fox News. A transfer to the Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem, Jesperson said, might save the cold-blooded killer's life. 'His best hope is to be transferred (sic) to here, the max prison in Oregon, to be away from those who want to make a name for themselves by killing him,' Jesperson wrote, the New York Post reports. 'This prison gets inmates from other states in order to protect them from the drama.' Keith Jesperson, Keith Jesperson (above), the Happy Face serial killer, killed at least eight women. Jesperson, whose victims were discovered in Washington, Oregon, California, Florida, Nebraska, and Wyoming, warns that Kohberger could become a target if placed in the prison's general population. 'He will be singled out right away to be made a target for those who see him as weak for the crimes of that kind of murder,' Jesperson said in his letter. 'Most likely, Idaho will put him in protective custody like [Jeffrey] Dahmer. But we all know how that ended.' At trial, Kohberger's defence pointed to social awkwardness and autism, with his lawyers writing to the court that their client 'exhibits slow verbal processing and weaknesses in certain areas of executive functioning, including cognitive flexibility and organisational approach. Authorities in Oregon have not publicly indicated if they'll consider housing the two convicted murderers as roommates. 'The safety and security of staff and the population are a priority in everything IDOC does, including placement,' said Blake Lopez, public information officer for the Idaho Department of Corrections.
