Ahmedabad's Jesal Trivedi, 47, a former boxing champion, has secured a Guinness World Record by running 50km with a 40-pound backpack in under nine hours. This feat underscores his belief that age is no limit to achieving remarkable goals.
AHMEDABAD: Strength and conditioning coach Jesal Trivedi, 47, has entered the
Guinness World Records
. Trivedi recently received his certificate for a feat accomplished earlier this year on Jan 12 — running 50km with a 40-pound backpack in 8 hours and 50 minutes.
For Trivedi, the marathon was not just a test of physical endurance but a challenge to societal norms, proving that age is no barrier to achieving extraordinary goals. His record-breaking effort stands as a testament to determination, resilience and disciplined strength training.
Aformer Gujarat state heavyweight boxing champion, Trivedi turned to fitness coaching after a shoulder injury ended his boxing career.
Over the past decade, he has focused on bridging the gap between gym-goers and endurance athletes. 'Strength and endurance are two sides of the same coin,' he said. 'Many people chase fad diets and fitness trends focused solely on leanness. I wanted to prove that concurrent training can unlock extraordinary potential in both strength and stamina.

His preparation for the Guinness challenge involved months of calisthenics, strength conditioning and a focused sports nutrition regimen. 'In an age where lifestyle diseases are rampant, staying fit, regardless of age, gender, or profession, is not optional, it's essential,' he added.

Wimbledon Diary

Asha Rai, Resident Editor of the Times of India, Bangalore, has been a journalist for over 30 years. Having started her career with the Economic Times she was amongst the first to capture the entrepreneurial energy unleashed by the tech sector in Bangalore in the 1990s. In the process, she captured, through her writings, the transformation of the city from a sleepy town to a bustling, global tech hub. She enjoys reading, travelling, movies and sports, especially football, but above all a good conversation over a coffee. LESS ... MORE Why no India? A Kazakh journalist making small talk in between games at the Centre Court casually asked me: How many Indians in the main draw? Zero, was my sad reply which drew a startled 'Oh' before he went on to reel off the names of the five Kazak players of whom I could only name check Elena Rybakina. The 2022 Wimbledon champion is Russia born but switched to Kazakhstan in 2018. Still. He then said, 'there are lots more playing in juniors next week.' He then wanted to know of Indian tennis: 'What happened?' What, indeed? AILTA? Royal Box roll call Wimbledon has perfected the art of packing the Royal Box with celebrities of all ilk. In fact, it merits a press release of its own. Sports and movie stars get the most attention. Day1, naturally, is full of British celebs. Sir David and his mum shared the front row with the former English football coach Gareth Southgate. Later in the day royalty arrived in the form of Princess Beatrice and her mum. Day 2 has Oscar-winning actor Cate Blanchett, members of the British media establishment like the editors of Daily Telegraph and the Sun. A puzzling entry `Mr & Mrs Vim (Pooja),' CEO of Barclays, UK perhaps referred to Mysore-born C. S. Venkatakrishnan, who is, indeed, the CEO of the British bank and his wife. The English & their Qs The most interesting and admirable attendees are far removed from the royal box. It's those who queue up for hours and many overnight to get into the grounds. A process exacerbated by the relentless heat of 30 degrees plus beating down on them as they stand for hours in the meandering queue. On Day 1, 10,000 queued up. This is because Wimbledon is one of the very few big sporting tournaments where you can buy premium tickets, albeit in limited numbers, on the day of play. Non-transferable and one per head, about 500 tickets are sold for what's dubbed as the `Show courts': Centre Court (excluding last four days), No.1 Court, and No.2 Court and then of course, ground tickets. People are allowed in till the 42,000 crowd limit is reached. The Hill Those with ground passes and without access to the show courts sit at Murray's Mound (the name changes depending on which British player is ascendent. It used to be Henman's Hill in the 1990s when the then British No. 1 made it to four semi-finals). It's also called Raducanu Ridge after Emma, the former US Open winner who is the current No.1 British female player. Its proper name is the Aorangi terrace. The Maori roots of the terrace is another story, altogether. On a giant screen flanked by equally large, mounted green gardens you can catch live action sitting under the Sun and drinking Pimms. A Wimbledon institution, it's a popular destination for picnics, too. Actually, Hill is an euphemism for a magnificently manicured, rising lawn. Made even more attractive by it being flanked by two famous bars: Pimms' on the Hill and Perfect Serve. Facebook Twitter Linkedin Email Disclaimer Views expressed above are the author's own.

Asia Cup 2025 schedule finalised, India vs Pakistan clash set for 7 September: Report

The wait for Asia Cup could be coming to an end soon as all the participating nations, includin hosts India, are likely to get clearances from their respective governments soon, according to a report in the Times of India. Reportedly, all matches of the upcoming tournament will be played in UAE and the tournament will kick off from 5 September. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and UAE will be the six nations participating in the upcoming tournament which will be played in the group stage and Super Fours format. This would mean that the high octane India vs Pakistan will be played at least two times in the tournament with the second clash set to be played on 14 September. The Asia Cup will be played in T20I format and the penutimate clash will played on 21 September. Reportedly, the promotional activities for the tournament have already begun with official broadcasters Sony recently sharing a poster for the multi-nation tournament. Notably, there were question marks about the tournament especially after the recent escalation in tensions between India and Pakistan in the wake of Operation Sindoor. However, if Asia Cup continues as planned it would send a message for all future international tournaments as well. Earlier this year, there were reports that India may pull out of Asia Cup due to the cross border tensions but BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had refuted those claims in a statement in May. He said, "Since this morning, it has come to our notice about some news items about BCCI's decision not to participate in the Asia Cup and Women's Emerging Teams Asia Cup, both ACC events. Such news is devoid of any truth as till now, the BCCI has not even discussed or taken any such steps regarding the ensuing ACC events, leave alone writing anything to the ACC,"

Ghaziabad Development Authority to build shooting range, running tracks in Newari

Ghaziabad: Following CM Yogi Adityanath 's order to transform the city into a sporting hub, the city's development authority has decided to construct an international-standard shooting range across 10 acres in Newari. "A meeting was held to discuss the prospect of establishing a shooting range in Newari, where the GDA has earmarked 10 acres of land. The shooting range will also include a running track and hostels for athletes," said Atul Vats, chairperson of the GDA. The CM, during his recent district visit, also announced that the Ghaziabad development authority (GDA) would develop a cricket stadium. As per the original plan, the stadium will be developed for Rs 450 crore on 31 acres of land and will have a seating capacity of 55,000. Earlier in April this year, the state's expenditure finance committee, under the state smart city project, approved a budget of Rs 108 crore for a multi-purpose sports complex in the city, which will host 22 indoor and outdoor sports. The complex, spread over 48,000 sqm in Nandgram, will seat 750 people and have parking for 400 vehicles. It will include six tennis courts, nine badminton courts, two squash courts, basketball courts, semi-Olympic swimming pools, box cricket, a cricket practice pitch, and other facilities, which will be capable of hosting national-level tournaments. Construction and Design Services will develop the complex, and from the date of tendering, it is expected to be ready in 18 months.
