Paddy McGuinness admits he feels like the 'odd one out' in family home

Daily Mirror07-05-2025
Paddy McGuinness has revealed he sometimes feels like the 'odd one out' at the home he shares with ex-wife, Christine McGuinness, their three children and their cat
Paddy McGuinness has confessed to feeling like the odd one out at his family home. The comedian, 51, revealed his feelings to being the only one in the home to not have autism - his ex-wife Christine McGuinness and their three kids have all been diagnosed with the condition.
Paddy and Christine share twins, Leo and Penelope, 12, along with nine-year-old, daughter, Felicity. The couple divorced last years after 11 years after announcing their shock split in 2022. However, the family of five still all live under the same roof.

And Paddy has admitted their diagnosis leaves him feeling him like the odd one out - joking he thinks the family cat is also on the spectrum.

Speaking on The Tommy Tiernan Show, the former Take Me Out host was asking if he thought it was strange to have three children who have autism. He responded: "No, not now. Every child with autism is different. I think for me – strange isn't the right word."
He added: "As a bloke when you're younger, you think about the future and you think about one day getting married and having kids, and you go right, I'll go to football with my son, I'll take my daughter horse riding – all the stereotypical things – when that doesn't happen, that's where it's like, hang on, this isn't what I thought parenthood was, so for me, it was that."
He also opened up on moments that have been a struggle before candidly confessing: "'You learn as you go along – what will trigger someone and what won't trigger someone."
Paddy admitted it took him "a good couple of years of figuring all that out". He said how as a parent you want life to be as "easy as possible" for your kids, but said it isn't always like that.
He went on: "For instance, my little son now, he can go in a bathroom now, and if someone puts a hand dryer on, it's not a problem. I don't think it's his favourite thing of all, but he wouldn't bat an eyelid, so it's about working through those things.

"So for me it's just dealing with what I thought being a dad would be, to what my version of being a dad is."
He added he is always worrying about not being around for his kids, saying people with autism have a "vulnerability there". He also said there's "a lot of wrong'uns in the world," which makes him worry more.
"If you just think about anyone doing anything to your child, it's enough to make your blood boil anyhow," he said. "But when someone does something because they are so lovely and pure and innocent, so those are the worries, but you just can't live your life like that."
Paddy also recently confessed his love for former Top Gear co-star Freddie Flintoff as the ex sports star recovers from his injuries.
The former Top Gear star said he might find it 'triggering' to see him in person but said he still messages his former co-host and was looking forward to watching Freddie's documentary 'Flintoff', which included detail of the former cricketer's near-fatal crash in December 2022.

EXCLUSIVE Fears for another Channel Ten star after network swung the axe on fellow six-figure hosts Jonathan LaPaglia and Rodger Corser

There are fears for Beau Ryan inside Channel Ten after executives swung the axe on his Top Gear co-host Jonathan LaPaglia and shelved the series. The longtime The Amazing Race Australia host, 40, stepped away from his Triple M Sydney radio show in March to film the upcoming 'Celebrity Edition' season. Beau has hosted the show since it premiered on Ten in 2019, five years after Channel Seven cancelled the series. 'There's genuine concern for the former NRL player-turned-TV presenter who has made a steady income out of hosting the competition-based reality series that sees him flown all around the world,' a well-placed source tells Daily Mail Australia. 'Beau's got the support of his mates – JLP and Rodger Corser are both rooting for him, but no one feels safe at Network Ten right now.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. In a 2021 interview on The Kyle & Jackie O Show, the former league star revealed he was paid $800,000 to host Amazing Race. 'When you are getting paid for something, you look at the hours. How long are we working here,' he explained. Kyle Sandilands asked: 'Is that what you do? Do you look at that with The Amazing Race and consider how long [you're away for]?' 'Yeah,' Beau said. '[I was away] for two to three months and I got paid $800,000.' With veteran hosts Jonathan LaPaglia and Rodger Corser both axed in quick succession, Beau's friends are concerned he could be next. Rodger was quietly 'let go' from Ten after quirky reality show The Traitors was cancelled at the end of 2024. The Doctor Doctor and Underbelly star, 52, is now hosting Channel Nine's hugely successful game show, The Floor. Insiders say these cloak-and-dagger firings are more about bean counting than a routine changing of the guard for 'fresher faces'. Network Ten reportedly didn't take well to the increased salary demands floated by some agents and management of their stars earlier this year, with insiders suggesting those negotiations backfired. While Robert Irwin's co-hosting gig on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! has been a success, his price tag will reportedly triple by the time contracts are back up for negotiation— making decision-makers think twice. 'Management is trimming budgets back by letting go of high-priced talent,' one source told Daily Mail Australia. 'This is a network being told to tighten the purse strings. They're not just replacing people for the sake of it. They're being strategic. It's about value, longevity and connecting with younger viewers.' But Beau was in high spirits when he spoke to Daily Mail Australia about the future of The Amazing Race this week. 'Celebrity Edition is an incredible series filmed in some of the most epic locations,' he said. 'We have a great line-up of teams. 'Also, a location that is a first for The Amazing Race franchise history. It's next level.' The father-of-two added: 'It's always tough to leave my family for filming.' 'It was tough to leave the guys at Triple M for the five weeks. I love the show, the listeners, and the team. 'Hopefully, the next season of Amazing Race films in the [radio] survey break so I don't miss much time on-air.' 'That's something the guys at Triple M and Paramount help me juggle. They know Amazing Race Australia is a show that's been a part of my life and schedule for the last six years.' However, conversations around The Amazing Race's future have reportedly become more urgent. While Beau remains a popular on-screen presence, the show's ratings haven't matched its production spend in recent years. As one veteran producer said: 'It's not about who's best anymore. It's about who's best for budget and branding.' Meanwhile, Top Gear is still up in the air with Ten's streaming partner Paramount+. 'There were talks [season two filming] could be the end of this year,' Beau revealed. 'But it is such a big show with plenty of planning so now it looks like it will be 2026 or 2027. We will have to wait and see.' Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Channel Ten for comment. The latest news inside Ten comes after Jonathan LaPaglia confirmed he lost his hosting gig on Australian Survivor last month. The 55-year-old, who has fronted the hit show since 2016, will make his final appearance on the upcoming season, Australia V The World, set to air later this year. In a lengthy Instagram post, Jonathan said he was shocked by Channel Ten's decision to let him go. 'I have no doubts Jonathan will be in another hosting gig whenever he is ready,' Beau told Daily Mail Australia. 'He is an incredible talent and you can see by the overwhelming support how loved he is.' The former league star confirmed he called JLP as soon as he heard the news. 'I did speak to him as he is a great man and close friend. He knows I am always here for him, as he is for me.' 'We are thrilled to have Beau Ryan as Network 10 talent,' a spokesperson for Network 10 told Daily Mail Australia. 'As per every year, announcements regarding our future content slate will be revealed at our Upfront, so stay tuned to hear more about the return of our... epic reality formats for 2026.'

I never liked ‘show-off' Jeremy Clarkson, says ex-Top Gear host

A former Top Gear presenter has said he never liked Jeremy Clarkson, calling him a 'massive show-off'. Steve Berry, who co-hosted the motoring show from 1993 to 1999, said his old colleague was an 'egotist' but added that this was what made him 'unique'. The pair worked on the BBC show for six years before Clarkson, 65, returned alongside James May and Richard Hammond when the programme was relaunched in 2002. They never formed a friendship, said Berry, but the 61-year-old said he 'respects' Clarkson. 'Do you know what? I've said I don't like him, but I respect him,' Berry said in a new interview, adding that he thought Hammond, May and Clarkson left the show 'at exactly the right time' in 2015. 'It was just on the cusp of them starting to – some of the ideas were coming around for the second or third time. There was still an engaging watch, but I thought when they quit…that's good timing,' he explained. The BBC programme was taken off air following presenter Freddie Flintoff's near-fatal crash in 2022, for which the former England cricketer sustained serious physical injuries and received a reported £9 million settlement. The broadcaster announced two years ago that Top Gear is to be 'rested' for the foreseeable future, but a statement added that it remains committed to Flintoff, Chris Harris and Paddy McGuinness – who began presenting the show in 2019. Clarkson began hosting the programme in 1988, in its original format, before returning for the relaunch in 2002. Speaking about the broadcaster's popular return stint alongside May and Hammond – and the dynamic between the trio – Berry said: 'Anybody who watched the 'three amigos' Top Gear…would know there's a hierarchy there, isn't there. 'They're not equal, the three of them. There's James and there's Richard and then there's Jezza [Clarkson], and Jezza is the leader of the gang.' He continued: 'In real life, Jeremy is a less bombastic version of that person that you see on the screen. 'You couldn't act that persona for all the years that he has, [but] he is kind of like that.' Clarkson, Hammond and May went on to achieve success with The Grand Tour on Amazon Prime from 2016 to 2024, but now Clarkson predominantly focuses on his farm and the Clarkson's Farm show following his trials and tribulations. Motoring expert Berry said that despite the pair 'never really getting on together', Clarkson once made a point to chat to him at a car show. 'He said, 'Berry, people know we don't like each other, I'll buy you a pint and we'll stand over there pretending we like each other'.' The former host added that Clarkson was 'always late,' including showing up two hours late to their first meeting. 'I turned up half an hour early because I wanted to impress,' Berry added.

Top Gear host slams Jeremy Clarkson as a 'massive show-off and egotist'

A former Top Gear host has admitted he "never got along" with Jeremy Clarkson while working alongside him on the hit BBC motoring show A former Top Gear presenter has confessed that he "never got along" with Jeremy Clarkson. The BBC motoring show has since come to an end after a serious on set crash involving Freddie Flintoff, who had been co-hosting the series with Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris. ‌ Prior to that era, Top Gear was famously fronted by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May - a trio that proved hugely popular with viewers. Now, former presenter Steve Berry has shared his true thoughts on Jeremy. ‌ The motoring journalist described Jeremy as a "massive show-offs and egotist" but notes that was what made him appealing to the show's producers, the Mirror reports. Steve made the comments during an interview on Al Arabiya News. ‌ "The first shoot that I went along on was presented by a certain Mr. Jeremy Clarkson. And I'll never forget this, he turned up two hours late. I turned up half an hour early because I wanted to impress." "He turned up to hours late and the crew were fuming. Absolutely fuming, I thought. Right, make a point, don't do that because you want the crew on your side," he recalled. Steve also shared what Jeremy was actually like behind the scenes, describing him as a "less bombastic version of that person that you see on the screen." He stated: "So in real life, Jeremy is a less bombastic version of that person that you see on the screen. You couldn't act that persona for all the years that he has." ‌ "He is kind of like that, and like I said, even though he and I never really got on together, the last time I met him in person, there was a bar, it was at a car show and there was an open bar and he said, Barry, people know we don't like each other, I'll buy you a pint and we'll stand over there pretending we like each other." Now, Jeremy runs a successful farm in the Cotswolds as well along with a pub called The Farmer's Dog, which specialises in selling local produce. His colleagues on the Oxfordshire farm have spoken more positively about it, offering praise for their boss. The anonymous worker told the Oxford Mail: "I've been working here well over a year and I do enjoy it to be honest, because you meet completely different people from all over the world and all around the UK." "Jeremy and Kaleb come up every now and then and chat with us and check that we're alright. Jeremy is just really funny, but he takes things seriously if we struggle with anything, which is nice, but he is just really funny and makes us feel comfortable."
