William Shatner begs French President Macron to save orcas stuck in abandoned marine park
They are confined in Marineland Antibes, a French marine park near Cannes, which shut its doors in January 2025.

Despite ongoing efforts to relocate the animals, French authorities have yet to identify a suitable site in Europe for the orcas and have reportedly rejected a proposed move to a marine zoo in Japan.

Footage released by animal activist groups show the orcas Wikie, 23, and her 11-year-old son Keijo swimming aimlessly around the abandoned park.
Now the 94-year-old Star Trek star has joined EARTHDAY.ORG, a non-profit organization that mobilizes people to protect the planet, and recorded a video message, addressing President Macron.

He said: 'We know you care, President Macron, about the plight of Wikie and Keijo, but we are asking you to act now.
'Move them to a safe and healthy location. There is not much time left to save them, and while no solution is perfect the alternative could mean death.'
'These beautiful animals may not survive much longer,' Shatner added in the exclusively obtained video.

The orcas must be relocated by December 2026 due to a national ban, but relocation efforts have stalled amid legal and logistical issues.
Shatner said the mission was reminiscent of his iconic role in 'Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home'.
He famously traveled through time to rescue whales in the 1986 film, and is now advocating for the real-life orcas.

Kathleen Rogers, president of EARTHDAY.ORG, said the organisation was inspired to ask for the actor's help because of the movie.
'We were all on a call discussing whether anyone had any idea how much it would cost to move the two orcas,' Rogers explained.
'I said, 'The only thing I know about moving orcas is from Star Trek IV when William Shatner went into the future to save the planet by bringing back two whales from the past.'
'We suddenly, of course, moved immediately to 'how do we get William Shatner?'
'In a very short turnaround time, William Shatner was immediately engaged.'
Following France's 2021 law banning the breeding and captivity of cetaceans, Marineland Antibes must relocate its marine mammals by December 2026.
The facility housing Wikie and Keijo is reportedly in dire condition.

'The facility itself is crumbling,' Rogers said.

'There are groups in France using drones to look at the conditions of the facility, which is not just covered with algae, but some of the walls are collapsing.'
The situation is complicated by competing interests and disagreements about the best solution.

'At one point, Spain was ready and willing to take them,' Rogers said.
'That negotiation fell apart due to ongoing lawsuits over the facility's size and necessary veterinary care.'

Still, Rogers believes solutions exist if all parties can come together.
'I think number one, getting everybody at the same table because there are all these different conversations taking place,' she added
'Number two, there has to be agreement on the proper facility.'
Rogers specifically called on President Macron to take leadership on the issue.
She added: 'He can immediately assemble the right people and solve the problem.'

Star Trek actor Anson Mount is opening up about his decades-long career in the entertainment industry. During an appearance on the July 15 episode of Michael Rosenbaum's podcastInside of You, Mount, who currently plays Captain Christopher Pike on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, discussed starring in the Western series, Hell on Wheels, which aired for five seasons until 2016. Mount said while he missed filming the series "like crazy," he wouldn't ever return to play his character, Cullen Bohannon. "It was a full chapter of my life. I love working outside. I love working with horses. I loved working with all of the cast and producers and everyone on set. I loved working with the network. But, no, I would not go back," said Mount during the interview. He explained that he believed it would be a disservice to his character if he ever reprised the role. "You know you've done your job when you feel like your character has deserved their rest. And it would be like grave digging to bring him back. I wouldn't do that," said Mount. While speaking to Rosenbaum, Mount also discussed playing Captain Pike, a role originated by Jeffrey Hunter in the original Star Trek series, which aired from 1966 to 1969. He noted that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is a prequel to Star Trek: The Original Series, meaning his version of the captain is "in a very different place" than Hunter's Pike. He also said he appreciated having to abide by the limitations of portraying an already-established character. "I think every artist needs the limitations. And at this point Star Trek is almost its own genre. And I think you have to study if you want to do it correctly," said Mount. When Rosenbaum asked Mount if he "studied" the Star Trek franchise, the Hell on Wheels actor replied that he was a fan of the original series when he was a child. While we eagerly await the trailer for Mortal Kombat II, the highly anticipated sequel to the R-rated 2020 cinematic reboot based on the long-running video game saga, producer Todd Garner and original Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon are teasing us with a poster for the movie... Well, not THE movie, but an in-universe movie starring Johnny Cage, played by Karl Urban. Fans who remember the first movie know that it ended with Cole Young (Lewis Tan) searching for more champions to defend Earthrealm from the forces of Outworld. One such warrior was Johnny Cage, a fan-favorite character who was played by Linden Ashby in the original 1995 film. In this sequel, Cage is played by Karl Urban, best known for his role as "Bones" McCoy in the 2009 Star Trek revival and its sequels, as well as Judge Dredd in 2012's Dredd. In a bit of cheeky humor, the early marketing for Mortal Kombat II has not been about the film's story, but about the fictional career of Johnny Cage, the biggest movie star in the world of the film. In a nod the biggest movie star of the real world, the in-universe poster for "Uncaged Fury" is a clear homage to 1996's Mission Impossible and its globe-trotting spy thriller antics. Essentially, it's saying that Johnny Cage is the Mortal Kombat universe's equivalent to Tom Cruise. The 2021 Mortal Kombat movie earned mixed reviews from fans and critics, but it was a decent start that nailed the tone of what a Mortal Kombat movie should be: brutally violent and full of deep lore, but with a tongue-in-cheek sense of humor and slightly campy sensibilities. I hope the sequel can build on the foundation of the original, upping the violence, developing the characters, and building out some of the relationships that fans of the games have followed for decades. ‘Star Trek' Star Makes Unexpected Comment About William Shatner
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds star Anson Mount, who plays Captain Christopher Pike, is opening up about his relationship with William Shatner. During an appearance on the July 15 episode of Michael Rosenbaum's podcast Inside of You, Mount said he occasionally has conversations with Shatner, who originated the role of Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek: The Original Series, which aired from 1966 to 1969. Mount surprised Rosenbaum by stating that he doesn't ask Shatner about his time starring in Star Trek. Rather Mount likes to ask about his horse farm. "I like to ask Bill about his horses ... He's really devoted most of his life to show horses and he goes all over the world with them," said Mount during the podcast interview. In addition, Mount complimented Shatner for his wit and high energy level at the age of 94. "I could only pray for that much energy at that age. He's a force of nature. It's unreal," said Mount. Mount then shared that he has been at fan conventions where Shatner has taken center stage during panels. According to Mount, audiences are absolutely mesmerized by Shatner. "I've been to a couple of things where they just put him out on stage with a folding chair and he just starts talking. And he'll talk an hour straight and have the audience captivated. He can turn it on like you wouldn't believe," said the actor. Mount mentioned his appreciation for Shatner in a June 12 Instagram upload. In the caption of the post, Mount confirmed that Star Trek: SNW, which premiered in 2022, will end after its 5th season. He also noted that both Captain Kirk and Captain Pike were at the helm of the USS Enterprise. "I grew up watching Bill Shatner strut his stuff across the bridge and sit in a chair that I could not fathom would one day be mine to occupy.
