As the Adani Group attempts to build on the existing characteristics of Dharavi, create a world-class district for Dharavikars and reimagine a new heart for Mumbai, Group Chairman Gautam Adani said on Tuesday that their most transformative project is unfolding in Dharavi.The Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP) is a unique opportunity to transform the lives and 'live-work' conditions of Dharavikars, aiming for a higher quality of life with great infrastructure and public amenities."Asia's largest slum is now being reimagined as India's most ambitious urban rehabilitation project ," said Gautam Adani while addressing the 33rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL)."Our Dharavi Social Mission is uplifting youth through skilling, healthcare and employment programs. And over one million people will move from narrow lanes to a township that will feature spacious layouts, dual toilets, open spaces, schools, hospitals, transit hubs and parks," he emphasised.The Dharavi Master Plan is built on the foundation of three guiding principles: driving economic change through redevelopment, building resilient ecology and infrastructure, and fostering an equitable Dharavi.Also, an interconnected network of green and public spaces -- ranging from large city parks to smaller community playgrounds -- will ensure that every resident has access to vibrant, walkable open areas. This network will strengthen ecological resilience and enhance everyday quality of life in Dharavi.A large active public open space is planned in the centre of Dharavi that will not only serve the recreation needs of the residents but also of Mumbai city at large, where Dharavi and Mumbai residents can come together for celebrations and festivals.Dharavi will be transformed into a highly transit-oriented development with seamless multi-modal connectivity, including a new metro corridor through its core. Bus feeder systems, dedicated infrastructure for non-motorised transport, and a fine-grain street network will enhance last-mile connectivity and promote walkability across all neighbourhoods.At the heart of Dharavi, a Multi-Modal Transit Hub ( MMTH ) is planned around the fact that it would have the first-ever facility where inter-city, intra-city, suburban, Metro, High-Speed, and Airport express trains could be accessed besides city bus and other city transport -- all at one location.

Dharavi redevelopment project plans to house India's next prime business district
The redevelopment of Dharavi, Asia's largest slum, is expected to include an exclusive commercial business district adding a significant business and employment component to one of the most complex urban transformation efforts globally. A substantial portion of the nearly 600-acre prime land in the heart of the country's financial capital will be earmarked for commercial development, with the intent to create a central business district (CBD) designed to attract companies from various sectors. This district is expected to include Grade-A office spaces, high-street retail, co-working hubs, hotels, and support infrastructure, according to people familiar with the planning process. "The commercial zone will be carved out of land that is not reserved for residential rehabilitation. This will also help in upgrading existing businesses operating in Dharavi ushering them into formal economy. The intent isbto grow the Dharavi economy by at least 3X," said one of the persons mentioned above. The inclusion of this commercial area is aimed at creating a self-sustaining economic engine within Dharavi, while also providing long-term revenue streams to fund other components of the nearly Rs 96,000-crore redevelopment project. Live Events The Dharavi Redevelopment Project , awarded to Adani Group through a specially formed joint venture company with the state government, aims to rehabilitate more than one million residents and regularise over 12,000 commercial units currently operating in the unorganised sector. The plan is to deliver integrated development that combines formal housing, upgraded civic infrastructure, social amenities, and structured commercial spaces. The business district component is being designed to both accommodate existing small businesses within Dharavi and attract new commercial tenants to the area. "A hybrid integrated approach is being considered, where portions of the commercial inventory may be leased to large corporations, while designated spaces could be offered to small-scale industrial and retail businesses that are already part of Dharavi's economy," said another person mentioned earlier. The upcoming multi-modal transport integration is expected to further support the viability of the commercial hub. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), now appointed as the nodal agency for the adjoining multi-modal transit hub (MMTH), is working to integrate Dharavi with major railway lines, metro corridors, and arterial roads. The proposed commercial district is expected to benefit significantly from this connectivity, making it attractive to businesses looking for centrally located office and retail space. ET's email query to Navbharat Mega Developers Pvt Ltd (NMDPL), the SPV undertaking the project, remained unanswered. Experts believe that this commercial component, if executed well, could redefine Dharavi's perception from an informal settlement into a mixed-use urban business precinct. 'For the commercial zone to succeed, it must be integrated with the city's infrastructure and be positioned competitively with other business districts. Its success can create a new benchmark for urban redevelopment,' said another person familiar with the city's infrastructure planning. Work on initial phases of the redevelopment project including surveys, resettlement planning, and infrastructure design, is currently underway.

BMC extends deadline for waste bioremediation at Deonar for a third time
For the third time, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has extended its deadline for the Rs 2,368 crore tender to appoint a contractor to carry out bioremediation of 185 lakh tonnes of waste and reclaim 110 hectare of land at the Deonar dumpsite over a period of three years. Bioremediation is a process involving treating garbage with the help of natural elements like air, sunlight, and microorganisms. Over time, as the biodegradable waste decomposes, the remaining non-biodegradable extracts are either recycled or treated artificially. The process of bioremediation is proposed at the Deonar dumpsite, which is among one of the sites that have been selected by the state government for constructing housing tenements for the Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP) – a venture steered by the Adani group and Maharashtra government's Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA). Earlier on May 14, the civic body had floated a tender inviting bidders to clear the Deonar dumpsite through bioremediation with a deadline of June 3, which was later extended to June 23 and further, revised to July 1. On Saturday, for the third time in a month, the BMC has again extended the deadline for the bidders to July 4. In the revised corrigendum, the civic body has revised the conditions, permitting a price escalation of five percent after 2 years. According to officials, the deadline has been revised owing to extension requested by bidders amid several concerns. For the record, at least 23 bidders had come forward and expressed interest during a pre-bid meeting convened earlier. 'Primarily, there are two major concerns which have been raised by the bidders. Firstly, the concerns pertain to the price as there was no provision for price escalation in the initial tender clause. Furthermore, many interested bidders had requested allocation of more time to collect and submit the documents. Another reason is the unique nature of the work stipulated in the tender, wherein nearly 2 crore metric tonnes of legacy waste has to be cleared over a period of three years,' said a civic official. 'This is our final corrigendum, following which no other extensions will be granted.' According to the civic data, of the 1.85 crore metric tonnes of waste which is currently stacked at the dumpsite, nearly 48 percent comprises construction debris, 41 percent is inert waste while 10 percent is accounted for by dry, miscellaneous waste.

Lucknow: Noting that the mining sector in UP has evolved beyond extraction, Chief minister on Sunday said that the mineral resources has become a key driver of economic growth, investment attraction, and local employment generation in the state. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Chairing the review meeting of the department of geology and mining, Yogi stated that the state's mining policy has now emerged as a model before the country and is set to play a crucial role in Uttar Pradesh's journey towards achieving a one trillion-dollar economy. He noted that mineral revenue recorded an average annual growth rate of 18.14% between 2021–22 and 2024–25. While the revenue from major minerals in 2024–25 stood at Rs 608.11 crore, in just the first two months of 2025–26, the state generated Rs 623 crore in revenue. Yogi was informed that lease agreements for major minerals such as phosphorite, iron ore and gold blocks were successfully auctioned in recent years. He directed officials to expedite the composite licensing process further and ensure timely identification of potential mining zones along with the prompt preparation of geological reports. Emphasising the impact of transparent and investor-friendly policies, the Chief Minister noted that prominent companies like JSW, Adani Group, Tata Steel and UltraTech Cement have shown a strong interest in the sector. The department undertook substantial work across more than 70 sub-indicators to secure top position in the State Mining Readiness Index (SMRI). A 100% implementation of the mine surveillance system was achieved in all mining districts, leading to significant improvements in the average timeline for environmental clearances and enhancing the overall transparency of regulatory procedures. Yogi added that the remaining reforms be completed within the stipulated time frame to ensure Uttar Pradesh attains 'Category-A' status in SMRI. Systems such as the Vehicle Tracking System (VTS), colour coding and white tagging are functioning efficiently. Through the brick kiln operators, the state had generated a revenue of Rs 259 crore last financial year whereas in this year Rs 71 crore have been collected. Additionally, Yogi directed that the process of issuing new leases for minor minerals be completed during the monsoon season, enabling mining activities to commence from October 15.
