Marcos orders probe into Siquijor electric co-op amid power crisis
According to Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro, outgoing Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla and officer-in-charge Undersecretary Sharon Garin were already summoned to resolve the power situation in Siquijor province.
Short-term and long-term solutions are being enforced to address the power crisis in the area, Castro said.
The provincial government of Siquijor through its Sangguniang Panlalawigan has declared a state of calamity due to the worsening power crisis.
The approved resolution will empower the Provincial Government of Siquijor to access its Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund (LDRRMF), specifically the Quick Response Fund (QRF), to implement immediate interventions.
Provincial Board Member Brylle Deeiah Tumarong-Quio said the declaration was based on the recommendation of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) during its 2nd Quarter Meeting presided by Governor Jake Vincent Villa on May 29, 2025, following "widespread and prolonged power outages attributed to the breakdown of several power generation units operated by the Siquijor Island Power Corporation (SIPCOR)."
'The situation has led to a critical shortfall of approximately 2,250KW, severely affecting electricity supply across the province," she said.
Meanwhile, Castro said Marcos is also monitoring the situation at San Juanico Bridge, which will be rehabilitated.
Authorities said the restrictions on San Juanico Bridge could result in up to P600 million monthly economic losses as 14,000 vehicles cross the infrastructure daily. — BM, GMA Integrated News

Escudero denies alleged insertions in 2025 budget
Senate President Francis 'Chiz' Escudero on Tuesday denied claims that there are billions of pesos worth of insertions in the 2025 national budget. At a press conference, Escudero called the reports a 'demolition job' in connection to his earlier bid to retain his Senate presidency post. Marcos cites World Bank role in PH infra, climate change mitigation
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Tuesday acknowledged the role of the World Bank when it comes to supporting Philippine infrastructure projects and addressing climate change. ''For eight decades, you have stood with us in confronting our most pressing challenges—from building critical infrastructure to boosting preparedness against climate change and natural disasters,'' Marcos said during the launch and turnover of the World Bank Group Philippines Country Partnership Framework (CPF) 2025-2031. ''Beyond financial assistance, you have provided deep technical expertise, championed the most effective practices, and reignited a collaborative spirit that pushes us to deliver real, lasting impact for Filipinos,'' Marcos added. Marcos said the CPF lays out a clear and strategic path for the next six years. "It echoes the commitments that I shared yesterday, during the State of the Nation Address: better access to healthcare, stronger support for our students, more jobs and livelihood opportunities for our people,'' Marcos said. ''To sustain our gains, we are also prioritizing disaster preparedness throughout the construction of more evacuation centers, modern early warning systems, and faster, more coordinated response efforts,'' he added. In a separate press release, Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) Secretary Arsenio Balisacan expressed deep appreciation for the World Bank's continued support, highlighting the CPF's strong alignment with the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2023-2028 and the country's long-term vision, the AmBisyon Natin 2040. SONA 2025: No one is above the law in missing sabungeros case, says Marcos
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. vowed in his State of the Nation Address on Monday that no one is above the law as justice is sought for the missing sabungeros. During his fourth SONA, Marcos said the entire government is doing everything to solve the case of missing sabungeros, noting that even those with influence, who are allegedly involved in the crime, will never be above the law. ''Nagtutulungan ang buong pamahalaan para lutasin ang mga kaso ng mga nawawala dahil sa walang pakundangang kagagawan ng mga sindikato sa likod ng madilim na mundo ng mga sabungan,'' Marcos said. ''Hahabulin at pananagutin natin ang mga utak at mga sangkot, sibilyan man o opisyal. Kahit malakas, mabigat, o mayaman, hindi sila mangingibabaw sa batas,'' he added. Whistleblower Julie 'Dondon' Patidongan had claimed that more than 100 sabungeros were abducted, killed, and then dumped in the Taal Lake. Patidongan also implicated businessman Atong Ang and actress Gretchen Barreto, an allegation that the two personalities have denied. Marcos has directed a deeper investigation into the disappearances of cockfighting enthusiasts after it was disclosed that cops were allegedly involved in their abduction and death.
