Mangaluru Police seek custody of prime accused in multi-crore fraud case
Mangaluru (Karnataka), Jul 22 (PTI) The Mangaluru City Police have filed a formal petition before the jurisdictional court seeking custody of the prime accused in a multi-crore investment fraud case, officials said on Tuesday.
Roshan Saldanha, a resident of Bajal in Mangaluru, is currently in judicial custody, they said.
He is accused of duping investors of several crores of rupees through fraudulent investment schemes that promised high returns, police said, adding that multiple complaints have been lodged against him by victims from various parts of Dakshina Kannada and beyond, alleging that they were misled by Saldanha's schemes and guarantees.
According to Police Commissioner Sudhir Kumar Reddy, in one case, Rs 10 crore has been fleeced from an investor.
The case involves the use of forged documents, shell companies, and sophisticated methods of financial manipulation, sources said.
The police now seek custodial interrogation to uncover the full extent of the fraud, track the flow of funds, identify accomplices, and determine whether more victims are involved.
Investigators in the police department believe that Saldanha may have operated through multiple channels to project legitimacy, thereby gaining the confidence of unsuspecting investors. The case has garnered widespread public interest given the high value of the fraud and its ripple effect on individuals and families across the region.
Meanwhile, authorities have urged the public to come forward with any additional complaints or information related to the case.
The investigation is ongoing and further revelations are expected once custodial interrogation commences. PTI COR AMP KH

Drug Supplier Disguised As Ascetic Caught After Evading Arrest For 3 Years In Rajasthan
Jaipur: Disguised as an 'ascetic', with black robes, Purna Ram, a known drug supplier from Rajasthan's Hanumangarh, has been caught by the police after evading arrest for three years. Purna Ram Sharma, 40, was wanted by the police for three years. His name came up when the police busted a heroin racket in March 2023, and three people, Navin, Tarachand and Surendra, were caught with 115 gm of heroin worth Rs 46 lakh. During the investigation, his name came up as the main drug supplier who sold the accused heroin. But as the police went to arrest him, a key figure in the drug supply racket, he went into hiding. Special teams were formed to catch him, but he managed to evade the police for years. Till he came to visit his sister in Haryana's Alinabad, and a tip off led the Hanumangarh police to Purna, who was carrying a reward of Rs 5,000 on his head Police station inspector Subhash Kachchava of Hanumangarh town, who led the arrest, told NDTV, "Purna Ram was in the business of supplying drugs. He does not do drugs himself and is not an addict, but was a part of the supply chain and was probably procuring drugs from neighbouring Punjab to peddle in Rajasthan's Hanumangarh. He was hiding as an 'ascetic' or 'tantrik'. He claims he was repenting and had gone to do spiritual practices, but all this is hogwash; he disguised himself to evade arrest. There are 2 cases against him under the NDPS Act in Hanumangarh." Purna Ram lived in a hut in Madhya Pradesh, close to the Ujjain temple. He also lived near the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati and the Tarapeeth temple in West Bengal, and also stayed near the Kaal Bhairav temple in Varanasi, temples known for occult practices. Rajasthan's Hanumangarh and Ganganagar are on the border with Punjab; the areas have been reporting a spike in drug hauls. In the past two months alone, heroin worth six crores was seized in Hanumangarh. Over 90 cases have been registered under the NDPS Act, and 113 people were arrested for drug-related offences.

TCS Market Valuation Erodes By Rs 28,149 crore Since Layoff Announcement
New Delhi: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has lost Rs 28,148.72 crore from its market valuation in two days after the company announced that it will lay off about 12,000 employees of its global workforce this year. On Tuesday, the bellwether stock declined 0.73 per cent to settle at Rs 3,056.55 apiece at the BSE. During the day, it dropped 1.23 per cent to Rs 3,041. On the NSE, it dipped 0.72 per cent to Rs 3,057. Shares of TCS had declined nearly 2 per cent on Monday. The stock has lost 2.48 per cent in two trading days. The market capitalisation (mcap) of TCS eroded by Rs 28,148.72 crore to Rs 11,05,886.54 crore in two days. India's largest IT services firm TCS is set to lay off about 2 per cent, or 12,261 employees, of its global workforce this year, with the majority of those impacted belonging to middle and senior grades. As of June 30, 2025, the TCS workforce stood at 6,13,069. It increased its workforce by 5,000 in the recently concluded June quarter. The move is part of the company's broader strategy to become a "future-ready organisation", focusing on investments in technology, AI deployment, market expansion, and workforce realignment, TCS said in a statement. "Towards this, a number of reskilling and redeployment initiatives have been underway. As part of this journey, we will also be releasing associates from the organisation whose deployment may not be feasible. This will impact about 2 per cent of our global workforce, primarily in the middle and the senior grades, over the course of the year," it said. TCS will provide appropriate benefits, outplacement, counselling, and support to the impacted employees, it added The move comes at a time when India's top IT services companies have delivered single-digit revenue growth in Q1FY26, capping off a somewhat sobering June quarter as macroeconomic instability and geopolitical tensions weighed on global tech demand and delayed client decision-making.
