#SHOWBIZ: Elite to hold first solo concert in September
Harian Metro reported yesterday that this will be their first solo concert in over 20 years and is set to take place at Plenary Hall, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on Sept 20.
Organised by Icon Entertainment, the Elite Live '25 Concert will feature all five original members — Abby Abadi, Azza Zawari, Linda Rafar, Watie Sadali, and Sasha Saidin.
According to Linda, the decision to hold a solo concert came after the warm reception they received during the GenKRU concert at Axiata Arena in May, where the group made an appearance during one of the four-day shows.
"It's been quite a while since we performed live together. When we received the offer from Icon Entertainment, we had mixed feelings at first but eventually agreed to it.
"Our songs are still popular and we want to reconnect with fans — both old and new," Linda said.
Formed in 1995, Elite was the first act signed under KRU Records. Over five years with the label, they released several albums including Catwalk, Tamparan, Idola, Selamat Tinggal Teman, G.I.G, and Merbahaya.

Eric Tsang & Stars Donate RM200,000 To Uncle Kentang For Medical Student
Subscribe to our FREE Sometimes, the universe has a way of working things out in a surprising manner. Just ask Kuan Chee Heng, better known as Uncle Kentang, Malaysia's beloved humanitarian who has made it his life's mission to help those who have fallen through society's cracks. Last weekend, Uncle Kentang found himself in one of those heart-wrenching situations that would keep any decent person up at night. An Indian father had approached him, tears streaming down his face in public, desperately seeking RM40,000 to keep his daughter in medical school. She was in her final year at Manipal University – so close to becoming a doctor, yet so far from affording it. 'He had approached many leaders of the Indian Community but to no avail,' Uncle Kentang shared on his Facebook page. He has exhausted all his savings so that she can pursue her studies. When Hope Seemed Lost, Hong Kong Called Here's a guy who runs ambulances and helps the poor and needy daily, watching his own funds dwindle to almost nothing. Yet he couldn't bear the thought of this young woman's medical dreams dying for want of money. 'I was scratching my head,' he admitted, torn between his existing commitments and this father's desperate plea. Then, as if scripted by Hollywood itself, the phone rang. It was a call about a donation from renowned Hong Kong actor, director, and television executive Eric Tsang and his team of Hong Kong and Malaysian artistes. They were in Malaysia to perform at the They'd heard about Uncle Kentang's work and wanted to help. The timing? Pure magic. 'It is like God answering my worries,' Uncle Kentang wrote, still seemingly in disbelief at the coincidence. From Stage to Salvation: The Genting Ceremony The donation ceremony took place at Genting, where Uncle Kentang received a check for a whopping RM200,000 from Tsang and his team of artists. The moment was captured in a photo that tells the whole story – entertainers from both sides of the South China Sea, united by a local humanitarian's simple desire to help others. Uncle Kentang was clear about his intentions: once the money comes through, that Indian medical student is getting her RM40,000. No questions asked. 'DO KINDNESS AND GOD WILL BE WITH YOU,' he wrote, perhaps summing up the entire beautiful coincidence. It is not a coincidence as God knows how troubled and sad I am when I cannot help someone who truly needs our help. The medical student probably doesn't know it yet, but her dream of becoming a doctor just got a lifeline from the most unexpected source. #SHOWBIZ: Kenny Bee, Eric Tsang distance themselves from Namewee after controversial photo
HONG KONG: Veteran Cantopop singer Kenny Bee and actor Eric Tsang have distanced themselves from controversial Malaysian singer-actor Namewee after a group photo they took together drew criticism from netizens. The Straits Times of Singapore reported yesterday that Bee and Tsang, both 72, were recently in Malaysia to perform as part of the Wow! Super! Happy 30 Years concert at Resorts World Genting on July 19. Namewee, 42, took a photo with the pair before the show and subsequently posted it on social media on July 19, with the caption: "Wishing you a successful performance tonight." The image of the trio together quickly went viral on social media, with numerous netizens criticising Bee and Tsang for their association with Namewee, whose full name is Wee Meng Chee. The hip-hop artiste has been blacklisted in China since the release of his satirical single 'Fragile' in 2021. The track was widely seen as containing sharp criticisms and veiled references to Chinese President Xi Jinping and various China-related issues, including Taiwan's political status and censorship in China. Bee, a member of the pop group The Wynners, took to the Chinese social media platform Weibo on July 20, uploading a photo of himself accompanied by a statement. "As a Chinese citizen, I have shown patriotism through concrete actions and firmly upheld the dignity of the country and national sentiment," he wrote in Chinese. "Recently, during an event in Genting, Malaysia, I took a photo with a certain person without noticing that it caused a misunderstanding." Bee clarified that it was purely a courtesy interaction on a public occasion, and he was unaware of Namewee's background or previous remarks and actions. Tsang, the host of the Hong Kong variety series Super Trio, posted a similar statement on Weibo on July 21, adding: "Once again, I express my deepest apologies to everyone." In a now-deleted statement on Facebook, Namewee wrote in Chinese: "In order not to affect the peace and stability of the 'motherland' as well as the safety of our comrades in Hong Kong in the Greater Bay Area, we have removed the previous post and photos." He also shared his new song, 'Letter Of Apology (2025)', on Facebook on July 21, quoting the lyrics: "And now I have decided to admit my mistake. This was just a small storm. I lowered my head and bravely showed my softer side. And criticised my brainless self."

#SHOWBIZ: Siti on nephew's talent: Ahmad is a good singer, but studies come first
KUALA LUMPUR: Biduanita Negara Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza, 46, has expressed her delight that her 13-year-old nephew, Ahmad Dayyan, has captivated many with his singing talent. In a recent interview with Harian Metro, Siti expressed her happiness that Ahmad Dayyan possesses a talent similar to that of his elder sister, Umai. "It's great that he's got this talent; it clearly runs in my family," said Siti. "Ahmad's name has gone viral, and many people want him to be a guest singer. However, he has to remember that he is still at school, and his studies come first," she emphasised. When asked to comment on Ahmad's recent admission on TikTok that he felt pressure to sing well, Siti believed that with experience and exposure, her nephew would be able to handle himself well in the music industry. "I hope Ahmad doesn't feel pressured, and I believe he can carry himself well in the industry. He is still young and has a long way to go," she said. Ahmad is currently a student at a sports school and is actively involved in sepak takraw. "I hope he can balance his studies and singing, just like I did, so that his teachers don't have any complaints about him," she added. Siti also mentioned that as he grows up, Ahmad will find his own identity. Ahmad, who is also the son of singer Siti Saerah, has become increasingly well-known since his performance at the Violet Skies Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Live in Arena of Stars Concert in early July.
