Magic Johnson Sends Message to Anthony Edwards, Timberwolves on 'Beating My Lakers'
The Minnesota Timberwolves came to Crypto.com Arena with a clear mission in mind: to end their first-round series and book their spot in the West semis. The Wolves did just that by securing an impressive 103-96 victory on the road to clinch the series, 4-1.

Lakers legend Magic Johnson took to social media after the game to share his reaction to the season-ending defeat. The five-time NBA champ sent a message to Minnesota and their superstar Anthony Edwards, who has been nothing short of amazing throughout this series.
"Congratulations to my good friend Minnesota Timberwolves owner Alex Rodriguez, superstar Anthony Edwards and the entire Minnesota Timberwolves team for beating my Lakers and advancing to the next round," Johnson posted on X.
Edwards had an off night on Wednesday, going 5-of-19 from the field for 15 points. The three-time All-Star still flirted with a triple-double, though, with 11 rebounds and eight assists, to go along with three steals and zero turnovers in 43 minutes of action.
Despite his relatively subdued performance in Game 5, there's no denying that Edwards has done an incredible job in leading his team against the Lakers.

Johnson also went on to express his thoughts on what he believes was the main factor in L.A.'s brutal loss.

"The reason the Lakers lost was because they played awful on defense, they were too small, and the Timberwolves dominated them in the paint," Johnson stated.
It's back to the drawing board for the Lakers in what should be an intriguing offseason for this team.
The Timberwolves, on the other hand, await the winner of the first-round matchup between the Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets. The Warriors are up in that series, 3-2, with Game 6 scheduled on Friday, 9:00 p.m. ET.

Jonathan Aranda lands on IL with fractured wrist after nasty Giancarlo Stanton collision
The Rays are losing one of their best players to the injured list. First baseman Jonathan Aranda is heading to the 10-day IL with a broken wrist after his scary collision with Giancarlo Stanton during Tampa Bay's 7-4 loss to the Yankees Thursday in The Bronx. The injury took place in the bottom of the fifth when Stanton chopped a ground ball to third baseman Junior Caminero. Caminero charged in to barehand the ball and whipped an inaccurate throw that forced Aranda to step in front of the first base bag as Stanton barreled toward the base. Aranda, 27, was forced to make an awkward movement in an effort to tag the Yankees outfielder, where he jammed his hand before keeling over in pain and heading back to the clubhouse. After the game, Aranda told reporters: 'There's a lot of pain. I've never felt that anything like that before…everything was negative on the X-ray. Tomorrow we'll see our doctor and see what happens.' The Rays' Jonathan Aranda after injuring his wrist in Thursday's loss to the Yankees. JASON SZENES/ NY POST Aranda arrived for Friday's game against the Dodgers with a brace on his left wrist and he shared he had fractured his wrist but that the injury wasn't 'catastrophic' and that he hopes to return this season. He won't be able to use his left wrist for the next three weeks, though. 'That's pretty good news, given what we saw yesterday,' Rays manager Kevin Cash told reporters Friday. 'Let's see how the bone heals. I think re-imaging is in about three weeks, but we'll continue to remain optimistic.' The Rays' Jonathan Aranda is hitting .316 with a .871 OPS and 12 home runs this year. Getty Images Aranda, who earned the first All-Star nod of his career this season, is hitting .316 with an .871 OPS and 12 homers. Those numbers mark a huge jump from last year, when the Tijuana, Mexico native hit .234 with a .737 OPS and six home runs. At the time of his injury, Aranda was leading the Rays in WAR with 2.3.

From draft day doubts to Phillies' Wall of Fame: Jimmy Rollins' journey puts him with team greats
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jimmy Rollins was a Bay Area kid who grew up rooting for Rickey Henderson and admiring Jackie Robinson as he blossomed into one of the top high school prospects in baseball. So when the Philadelphia Phillies called in 1996 to tell the slick-fielding shortstop they had picked him in the second round of the draft, Rollins had one major question. 'I'm like, 'Who?' ' Rollins said with a laugh. Yes, the Phillies, one of the worst organizations in baseball throughout the late 1990s — and one Rollins turned into a perennial winner. Rollins led the Phillies to five straight NL East titles, the 2008 World Series championship, and another NL pennant the next year. He was the 2007 NL MVP, a three-time All-Star, had a 38-game hitting streak and set the franchise record for hits with 2,306. He had one more major franchise accolade to accomplish. Rollins at last took his place with Hall of Famers Mike Schmidt and Steve Carlton and was inducted Friday night into the Phillies' Wall of Fame. 'I was meant to be here,' Rollins said. 'I got drafted here. I told my mom when we got drafted, I'm going to win a championship in this city. That's what it became about for me, was chasing that championship.' The core of that Phillies' run — five division titles from 2007-2011 on the strength of homegrown talent such as Rollins, Ryan Howard, Cole Hamels and Chase Utley — was built by former general manager Ed Wade. Wade, who helped move the organization into Citizens Bank Park in 2004, received his spot on the Wall with Rollins on Friday night. Howard inducted Rollins into the team's version of the Hall of Fame, saying the team leaned on him for the contagious confidence that made the Phillies the team to beat in the NL for so many years. 'You go, we go,' Howard told the crowd. 'Jimmy always went.' Utley pulled down the coverings that unveiled the Rollins and Wade plaques on the wall that greets fans in the left field concourse behind the scoreboard building. Rollins, who finished his career with stints with the Dodgers and the White Sox, earned just 18% of the Hall of Fame vote in last year's ballot, falling short of the 75% needed for election. Wade said Rollins' numbers compared to some of the great shortstops already in Cooperstown. 'This guy, from the standpoint of character, makeup and talent, he's a Hall of Famer in all three of those things,' Wade said. 'There are some guys in Cooperstown that may check one or two of those boxes. This guy checks all three of those boxes. I understand the statistical aspect of it. Defense, check his box. Speed, check his box. I don't know what criteria you would have to follow to not have Jimmy Rollins in the Hall of Fame.' ___ AP MLB:

49ers starting offensive lineman predicts that he'll make the Pro Bowl in 2025
While the San Francisco 49ers have a few jobs up for grabs in training camp ahead of their 2025 campaign, one player who's set in his spot is right tackle Colton McKivitz. McKivitz, 28, was San Francisco's fifth-round pick (No. 153 overall) in the 2020 NFL draft after a five-year collegiate career at West Virginia, where he earned All-Big 12 and All-American honors as a senior. After he spent most of his rookie season as a backup and most of the following year on the practice squad, McKivitz eventually took over as the team's starting right tackle in 2023 and has started all 34 games over the last two seasons. As he prepares to enter his third season in the role, McKivitz believes he'll be recognized as one of the top players at his position in the NFL in 2025. 'I'm going to be a Pro Bowler this year, I've told countless people," McKivitz shared with NBC Sports' Matt Maiocco earlier this week. "I'm just putting it out there just because that's going to hold me accountable and get me to where I want to go. If you don't fight for it, you won't get it.' The 49ers are no strangers to having one of their starting tackles make the Pro Bowl, as left tackle Trent Williams made it four straight seasons from 2020-23. However, McKivitz will really have to play great in 2025 to unseat Philadelphia's Lane Johnson, who's made the Pro Bowl each of the last three seasons and has made six in his career. Interestingly, the San Francisco Chronicle's Noah Furtado reported that McKivitiz had the "most impressive offensive/defensive lineman one-on-one rep of the day" on Friday, as he completely shut down a pass rush from Nick Bosa. Maybe that'll be something for him to build on going forward and turn the 2025 season into a Pro Bowl campaign. More 49ers: 49ers undersized rookie 'doing a hell of a job' in battle for starting spot
