'India Backed Out': Pakistan Champions Refuse To Share Points After WCL Match Called Off
Eventually, the match, slated to be held on Sunday (July 20) was called off.
WCL says that the Indian Champions team wasn't at fault for the match not going ahead.
'WCL have conveyed to England and Wales Cricket Board that they, as organisers, were not able to conduct this match. The India Champions team are not at fault. Pakistan Champions team are not willing to share points because they are saying that it is India who backed out, not them," ANI quoted a source as saying.
The second edition of WCL got underway last week with Pakistan beating England by five runs. India, led by Yuvraj Singh, were to open their campaign against Pakistan.
They will take the field for the first time this edition against South Africa tonight.
Dhawan's Statement On Not Playing Against Pakistan
Former India opener Dhawan said he had already communicated his decision with the WCL organisers in May this year.
'This is to formally reiterate that Mr Shikhar Dhawan will not be participating in any matches against the Pakistan team in the upcoming WCL League. This discussion was communicated earlier during our discussion on call and WhatsApp dated 11th May 2025," Dhawan shared a screenshot of his statement.
'In view of our current geopolitical situation and prevailing tensions between India and Pakistan, Mr Dhawan and his team have taken this position after due consideration. We respectfully request the league's understanding and cooperation on this matter," it added.
What Happens If India And Pakistan Reach WCL Knockouts?
In the scenario of both India and Pakistan reaching WCL semifinals, an official claims that a clash between the two teams will be avoided.
'As for the semifinals and final, we're currently saying that if we make it to the semifinals, there will be four teams, and we will avoid matches between the two teams," Pakistan Champions owner Kamil Khan told GeoNews.
However, there's no clarity on what happens if they reach the title clash as was the case last season when India won the competition.
Kamil also claimed Pakistan Champions should be awarded two points for the abandoned fixture with India. 'And as for this match, the two points will be awarded to us, and we deserve those points as per the rules," he said.

India vs Australia Live Score, WCL 2025: Yuvraj Singh's India in must-win territory, Brett Lee's team in the way
India vs Australia Live Score, WCL 2025: All roads lead to Headingley, where Yuvraj Singh's India Champions will go up against Brett Lee's Australia Champions in a crucial World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 fixture. India are in a must-win territory now after losing the previous contest against AB de Villiers' South Africa Champions. The retired icons from both India and Australia will rekindle their fierce rivalry once again. This clash could decide who advances towards the semi-finals. India Champions enter the match under pressure, having lost their opening game to South Africa Champions by a convincing margin via DLS. India Champions are currently at the bottom of the points More On the other hand, Australia Champions are in form, having registered a solid victory over the West Indies Champions, powered by a stunning knock by Chris Lynn and quickfire contributions from Ben Dunk. Given Australia's form and India's lack of it, the former enter the contest as firm favourites. India will need extraordinary innings from the likes of Yuvraj, Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu, along with disciplined spells from their spinners and seamers, to upset the odds. The showdown at Headingley is more than nostalgia; it is a battle of form, firepower, and execution. It must also be mentioned that the organisers of India's match against Pakistan cancelled it at the last minute owing to social media outrage. Shikhar Dhawan, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, Harbhajan Singh and Suresh Raina also pulled out of the contest, refusing to play against the arch-rival in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack. The World Championship of Legends 2025 got underway last week with the opening match between the England Champions and the Pakistan Champions. South Africa Champions currently lead the table. AB de Villiers is the talk of the town following his century against England Champions. He had also even hit a fifty against Yuvraj's India.

"Not Surprised": West Indies Great On Shubman Gill Leading India In England Tests
Former West Indies cricketer Dwayne Smith said on Friday that he is not surprised witnessing young batter Shubman Gill lead Team India during the tour to England, hailing how Indian players are made Test-ready before they even get there and also pointed out the lack of first-class cricket played by West Indies cricketers that have contributed to their downfall in the longer format. Smith was speaking to ANI in Birmingham, playing World Championship of Legends (WCL) for West Indies Champions. Speaking about Indian skipper Gill, currently leading a new-look Team India without seniors Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin in England and trailing by 1-2, Smith said, "The thing is with the youngsters, I think they still have that experience. And I know that with India, they play a lot of cricket and they will do well. They have the backing, they have everything, the resources, everything is there for them." Smith, who represented WI in 148 international matches, scoring 2,462 runs and taking 75 wickets, said that Indian players are close to Test-level before even reaching there and it is no surprise Gill leading the Indian side. "They are Test material even before they reach there. I think I heard one of the coaches that had worked with him a few years ago said that he will lead India in a couple of years' time and now he's there. So I am not surprised at him being captain. They have a very good young crop now coming up and I think they are going to be there for a little while. Who knows, you have to wait and see how it goes for them." On West Indies' pro-longed slump in Test cricket, which has seen them finish near the bottom of the table in all three ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycles, Smith said that the administration is just not "good enough" to compete against teams like Australia, New Zealand, England and India. Most recently in the third Test against Australia, WI was bundled out for just 27 runs, the second-lowest score in Test cricket history. "We have been only playing like seven first-class games a year, that is not enough cricket for us to go and compete against world class teams. So I think that is something that is not a surprise for me. I was not expecting them to get bowled out for 27, but for something like that to happen, I am not surprised because I do not think we play enough competitive first class cricket to compete with these team like Australia, England, India, New Zealand, those places, South Africa," he added. Speaking about sharing the locker room with legendary teammates like Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo, who won the T20 World Cup 2012 with Smith, he said, "I am not starstruck or anything like that, but it is good to know that you play cricket with a bunch of guys that have been doing well for their country and also for their respective franchises." So far, West Indies Champions have won just one and lost two matches in the competition.
