Struggling with an ankle injury, Kishore Jena has pulled out of Saturday's Neeraj Chopra Classic international javelin event and will be replaced by Yashvir Singh, the organisers announced on Monday. Asian Games silver medallist Kishore Jena (PTI)
The 23-year-old Yashvir had finished second in the Federation Cup in April and fifth in the Asian Athletics Championships in South Korea in May with a personal best of 82.57m.
"Kishore Jena has been ruled out of the Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025 due to an ankle injury. Yashvir Singh has been named as his replacement in the final lineup," the organisers of NC Classic said in an official update.
On June 6, Poland's Martin Konecny had replaced Asian Games bronze medallist Genki Dean of Japan as the organisers confirmed the 12-man entry list for the rescheduled event.
India's first-ever international javelin competition, originally slated for May 24, was postponed due to military tensions between India and Pakistan.
Organised by double Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra in collaboration with JSW Sports and sanctioned by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), the event will feature a world-class field comprising seven top international throwers and five Indian athletes, including Chopra himself.
Apart from Konecny, the confirmed international lineup includes two-time world champion Anderson Peters (Grenada), 2016 Olympic gold medallist Thomas Röhler (Germany), 2015 world champion Julius Yego (Kenya), Curtis Thompson (USA), Luiz Mauricio da Silva (Brazil), and Rumesh Pathirage (Sri Lanka).
The Indian contingent will feature Asian Championships silver medallist Sachin Yadav, Rohit Yadav, and Sahil Silwal.
Initially set to be held in Panchkula, the event has been relocated to the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru due to lighting limitations at the original venue that affected live telecast capabilities.
The event, granted Category A status by World Athletics, is considered a "dream project" of Chopra and aims to establish India as a credible host of elite-level athletics events.
It had to be postponed following the terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 civilians, including several tourists.
According to the organisers, ticket prices will range from ₹ 199 to ₹ 9,999. Premium experiences include five corporate boxes, each accommodating 15 guests, priced at ₹ 44,999.
A special stand next to the thrower's runway is available for ₹ 9,999, while another premium section in the North Upper Stand, just behind the runway, is priced at ₹ 2,999.

‘Kuldeep in, Shardul out': Ex-IND star calls for bold changes in India's XI for Edgbaston Test

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has suggested the changes that India should make for the upcoming Test match against England at Edgbaston. He noted the importance of bringing Kuldeep Yadav in the side in order to take advantage of the spin friendly conditions. Speakig on Match Centre Live, Manjrekar said, "Kuldeep Yadav has to come back. I'm sorry to say, but Shardul Thakur has to go out," "That is one change India will have to make. As for Nitish Kumar Reddy - I backed him for the first Test purely based on what he did in Australia. It's an unpopular choice, because when he comes in, the balance does get affected a bit. He won't quite bowl like a fourth seamer, so India need to take a hard call: even in English conditions, they must go with quality bowlers." he added "If that means playing two spinners, so be it. Pick your best bowlers, irrespective of the conditions. You don't have the luxury of someone like Mohammed Shami available, or the full-strength pace battery, so I'd go one seamer short and bring Kuldeep into the XI. He has to play." the former cricketer further noted. The former cricketer noted that English summers are largely dry now a days which opens the gate for spin friendly tracks where Kuldeep should come in handy. "Let's also acknowledge that English summers these days are largely dry - thanks to global warming, perhaps - and that does open the door for spin. In a way, it's time to reintroduce the idea of India playing spin in England. Ben Stokes has already changed the narrative with common-sense, aggressive cricket. India need to embrace the same clarity." he noted. Manjrekar stated that India should not play an extra spinner just for the sake of adding balance in the side. For the upcoming match, he noted that India should drop Shardul Thakur and bring in Kuldeep Yadav along with Nitish Kumar Reddy. 'There was a time when India would play three spinners no matter what — whether in New Zealand or England. If Kuldeep is in your squad, play him. Don't go with seamers just because you're playing in England. I'd drop one seamer and bring in Kuldeep Yadav.' Manjrekar added.
