Minister for Mines, Geology and Excise Kollu Ravindra on Saturday said the government was keen on promoting Manginapudi beach in Machilipatnam as a premier tourist destination.
Speaking at the ongoing Masula Beach Festival-2025, he said the visitors can engage in an array of activities designed to showcase the region's cultural and recreational significance.
He said the event offered exciting adventure and sports activities like water sports and beach games such as beach volleyball, beach football, paragliding and heli-riding.
Celebrating a rich cultural tapestry and culinary expedition, a series of cultural programmes are planned to keep the crowds entertained and a diverse range of food items from across the country have come under one roof, he said.
Sharing his personal experience, the Minister said the beach appeared even more magnificent when paragliding. He, along with Andhra Pradesh Sports Authority chairman A. Ravi Naidu and A.P. State Road Transport Corporation chairman Konakalla Narayana Rao, visited the place and monitored the smooth conduct of events.
Later, at the kayaking event, he congratulated Arjuna awardee and kayaking coach Jayant Kumar and distributed jerseys to the kayaking participants. He said kayaking would be an annual event on the beach, and very soon, national and international competitions would also be organised at this place.
Mr. Ravi Naidu said organising regular sports events on the beach will enhance the reputation of the historically significant beach and groom local sports talent into national and international athletes.
RTC chairman Narayana Rao said free bus services were available from Machilipatnam to Manginapudi beach and encouraged people to utilise this facility to become part of a joyful experience at the beach festival.
On the inaugural day, Minister Tourism Kandula Durgesh said active efforts were being made to secure more funds from the Centre to initiate new tourism projects for the State and make it a tourist hub.
Special Chief Secretary, Department of Tourism Ajay Jain, Krishna district Collector D.K. Balaji and others were present at the inaugural.
The four-day festival, which started on June 5, is drawing large crowds, and elaborate arrangements have been made for their safety.
A combination of water sports like kayaking, parasailing and speed boat rides, along with cultural programmes and other activities, has significantly enhanced the excitement quotient in the vicinity. These attractions provide a variety of experiences, appealing to both adventure seekers and those interested in cultural events.

Prabath Jayasuriya's five-wicket haul powers Sri Lanka to dominant innings victory against Bangladesh in second Test

Prabath Jayasuriya. New Delhi: In the second and final Test match of the two match series held between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh on Saturday, June 28, at Sinhalese Sports Club of Colombo, Sri Lanka shockingly thrashed Bangladesh by innings and 78 runs. Prabath Jayasuriya shone with his 12th five-wicket haul and the hosts finished in a 1-0 series lead after Bangladesh were dismissed for a measly 133 in the 2nd innings. In the dying moments of the Day 3, the Sri Lankan team led by Dhananjaya de Silva saw a glimmer of win as Tharindu Ratnayake bowled a jagged delivery to clean up Mehidy Hasan Miraz (11) at the score of 115/6 to knock bundles of Bangladesh before the end of Day 3. Day 4, Prabath Jayasuriya was not too long in making a difference as he added two more to his overnight figures of 2, cleaning up Litton Das (14), caught behind off Kusal Mendis. Prabath Jayasuriya shines again The left-arm spinner got another in the very next over, managing to entrap Nayeem Hasan into moving out of his crease. Wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis had a quick response and whisked off the bails that further compounded the misery of Bangladesh. Jayasuriya continued his rampage as he sent Taijul Islam back in his third over of the day to finish his five-wicket haul. Tharindu Ratnayake (2/19) wrapped up the match with a leg before wicket dismissal of Ebadot Hossain 6 off 7 deliveries and Bangladesh were all out 133 in a mere 44.2 overs. Pacer Asitha Fernando (1/22) and captain Dhananjaya de Silva (2/13) were also wicket-takers as Sri Lanka started their 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) on a winning note by winning the series. The first innings during which Pathum Nissanka battered the ball to all sides of the park with some exquisite strokes and smashed 158 runs with 19 boundaries included his best was titled Player of the Match. He was also the Player of the Series winner after leading the runs standings with 369 runs over three innings at an average of 123 with two centuries. Najmul Hossain Shanto steps down Pathum Nissanka had previously registered a dominant 187 runs in the first knock of the draw Test in Galle earlier in the series. In the meantime, after Bangladesh lost the series, its captain Najmul Hossain Shanto resigned. Nonetheless, Shanto had impressed in his debut performance in the first test with both centuries in the match which made him the first Bangladesh player to record more than two centuries.

Trouble for Seattle Orcas amid MLC 2025; Captain Heinrich Klaasen steps down after franchise parts ways with head coach

Seattle Orcas were dealt with a double blow midway into the ongoing Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025 as the franchise decided to part ways with head coach Matthew Mott after remaining winless in the five games they have played so far in the ongoing season. To add to that, captain Heinrich Klaasen too stepped down from his position. Having finished runners-up in the 2023 edition, Seattle Orcas finished at the bottom of the table in 2024. In MLC 2025, Seattle Orcas still have a chance to jump up in the table. The Seattle-based franchise cited differences in coaching and management strategies as a reason for Mott's ouster. 'In a major move, the franchise has parted ways with Head Coach Matthew Mott, citing differences in coaching and management strategies. 'The Orcas thank Mott for his contributions and wish him all the best in his future endeavors,' Seattle Orcas said in a statement. They also accepted Klaasen resignation as captain. 'Further, Heinrich Klaasen has decided to step down from his role as Captain to focus fully on his responsibilities as a batter. 'Klaasen's commitment to performance and team success remains unwavering, and he remains an integral part of the leadership group,' it added. Zimbabwe's Sikander Raza replaced Klaasen as captain. Meanwhile, the change in leadership worked wonders for Seattle Orcas who defeated MI New York in a record run chase on Saturday. Chasing a mammoth 238 runs for victory, Seattle Orcas, rode on an unbeaten 97 off 40 balls from Shimron Hetmyer to chase down the target on the final ball of the innings. Seattle Orcas won the game by three wickets. With six runs needed from the final ball, Hetmyer smashed Kieron Pollard over fine leg for a six to secure their first win. Earlier, Nicolas Pooran smashed an unbeaten 108 (60 balls) while Tajinder Dhillon (35-ball 95) missed on a well-deserved hundred as Mi New York posted 237/4 in 20 overs.
