Iowa women's basketball offers highly-touted 2027 recruit
As Iowa women's basketball continues to hunt for the next wave of top-tier talent, the Hawkeyes have extended an offer to class of 2027 guard and small forward Madi Mignery.
The 6-foot-1 prospect has a 247Sports rating of 95. In 247Sports' rating system, that makes Mignery a four-star prospect in the 2027 recruiting class.
The Sarasota, Florida, native is regarded as the No. 2 player in the Sunshine State per Prep Girls Hoops.
Given her ranking, Iowa is not alone in the race for Mignery's commitment. Mignery has received offers from other premier programs such as Ohio State, Florida State, Michigan, Michigan State, Kentucky, Florida, TCU and Stanford.
According to her MaxPreps statistics, Mignery averaged an impressive 16.0 points per game on 56% shooting from the floor, 36% from 3-point territory, and 77% from the free-throw line through 28 contests in her sophomore season with Cardinal Mooney.
Mignery also averaged 9.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game this past season.
Mignery captained the Cardinal Mooney team to a 24-9 record and helped guide the school to a 2025 Florida High School Athletic Association Class 3A state championship with 19 points and 11 rebounds in the title game against Bolles.
Mignery has also turned heads with her play with Girls Under Armour Association squad FGB.

Texas A&M is still in pursuit of one of the top safety prospects in the 2026 recruiting class, even after landing four-stars Chance Collins and Tylan Wilson this month, as five-star Bralan Womack is set to announce his commitment on August 21, and according to one source, the Aggies remain in the mix despite two teams standing out late. Texas A&M defensive coordinator Jay Bateman and defensive back coach Jordan Peterson have been two of the hottest recruiters in the country this summer, building strong relationships with every linebacker and defensive back commit in the 2026 class. On Monday, 247Sports insider Tom Loy provided more insight on Womack's recruiting journey, stating that while Auburn and Ohio State enter next month with the "most confidence" to land the standout DB, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko and Jay Bateman are still clearly in the mix and work overtime behind the scenes. "All four schools remain firmly in the mix. Coach Mike Elko and defensive coordinator Jay Bateman have Texas A&M in play, as discussions continue behind the scenes." Ohio State has received a 247Sports crystal ball prediction to land Womack, which would not be surprising at all, given the program's past success in developing safety prospects, including future first-round NFL draft selection Caleb Downs, who is entering his final season with the Buckeyes. Womack reportedly models his game after Downs, so Ohio State will likely remain the slight leader in his recruitment heading into August. Still, after landing four-star running back KJ Edwards and four-star safety/linebacker Tamarion Watkins, who were previously favored to commit elsewhere, Elko and his staff should never be counted out. According to 247Sports, Womack is currently positioned as the 13th-ranked prospect, the No. 1-ranked safety prospect, and No. 2-ranked prospect in Mississippi. Finally! Longhorns win recruiting battle for four-star CB Samari Matthews
Texas has had a rough patch in recruiting. During the Fourth of July week, the Longhorns lost nine recruiting battles in a row, then saw a tenth prospect commit elsewhere this week. But the streak is over. UT has landed a commitment from four-star cornerback Samari Matthews. The Cornelius, NC native chose Texas over South Carolina, Miami, and Florida State. Matthews ranks as the nation's No. 6 cornerback and No. 5 best player from North Carolina and No. 57 overall, according to 247Sports industry rankings. Currently, the Longhorns 2026 class includes one cornerback, three-star Hayward Howard Jr. While he is a talented prospect, adding more depth at the position is key for UT. Matthews took official visits to all four of his finalists over the past few weeks. What stood out about Texas? Iowa football 2025 season positional preview: Tight ends
The Iowa tight end room has been the stuff of legends for two decades. From CJ Fiedorowicz to Tony Moeaki to George Kittle to Sam LaPorta, Iowa football has consistently produced extremely talented tight ends who tend to have success at the next level. It's a big reason why many fans usually don't panic when a big name leaves because there's built-in trust that the replacement will be just as good, if not better. The Hawkeyes will be starting a new tight end this year, but one who has plenty of experience in the system. This is the fourth part of my Iowa football positional previews, where I dive deep into each position group on the roster and discuss the big names and under-the-radar players who could have big roles this season. We've gone over the other skill position groups and the quarterback room so far, leading us to the tight ends today. Do the Hawkeyes have another star tight end on the roster? Let's take a deep dive into the 2025 tight end room. Starter: Addison Ostrenga 2024 Stats: 15 receptions, 114 yards, one TD Injuries limited Ostrenga to eight games in 2024, which, along with below-average quarterback play, led to his stats not standing out. The 6-foot-4, 248-pound tight end out of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, was the primary backup to Luke Lachey last season, who also dealt with injuries. Ostrenga is familiar with Tim Lester's system and has the size you love from a tight end who can stretch the field vertically. The key for Ostrenga to have success in 2025 will be his ability to block. That's been a trait that some of the best tight ends in Hawkeye history have had. If you're not a willing blocker, Kirk Ferentz will keep you off the field. That'll be very important for Ostrenga this season. As long as he's a willing blocker, he should get rewarded with targets and receptions, and his size makes him a matchup nightmare for opposing coaches. Hawkeye fans should be excited to watch Ostrenga in 2025. Projected backup: Zach Ortwerth 2024 stats: 11 receptions, 133 yards Zach Ortwerth joins Ostrenga as the only two tight ends on the roster who aren't redshirt or true freshmen. The 6-foot-4, 245-pound junior has a similar size to Ostrenga and got some experience in 2024, leading to him being my projected backup at the tight end position. He's had a merchant for being on the receiving end of some long receptions in his young career, with catches of 54, 52, and 31 yards on his ledger. Those three receptions account for 25% of his career catches. While Ortwerth has shown he can make the big play, his playing time will be predicated on his ability to do the small things right. He'll need to run-block, help out in pass protection, and take what the defense is giving him, even if it's just a five-yard curl. If Ortwerth can do those routine things regularly, he'll be a big part of an Iowa offense looking to take another step forward.
