The Naked Gun debuts strong but falls behind in the rankings
Paramount's The Naked Gun opened with £1.82 million across 632 sites, averaging £2,880 per venue. A few site results are still pending. The film's debut edges past comparable comedy titles like Rush Hour (1998) and Nativity 3 (2014), both of which also opened at £1.81 million and ended with lifetime box office figures of £7.4 million and £7.6 million respectively. Despite the promising start, The Naked Gun could not overtake The Fantastic Four: First Steps at the top of the chart.
Animation and franchise films show strong holds
The Bad Guys 2 from Universal saw a modest 19% drop in its second weekend, earning £1.33 million and reaching a cumulative £4.9 million. Although unlikely to match the £13.7 million earned by its 2022 predecessor, it remains a solid performer.
Also from Universal, Jurassic World Rebirth dropped just 20% in its fifth weekend, earning £1.27 million. With a total now at £31.6 million, it stands as the fifth-highest-grossing film in the Jurassic Park series. It may still catch up to 2022's Jurassic World: Dominion, which ended with £35.1 million.
Superman, horror entries, and global titles round out the charts
Warner Bros.' Superman fell from second to fifth, earning £1.26 million on its third weekend—a 34% decline. Its total now stands at £24.3 million, trailing only three films from the previous DC Extended Universe lineup.
Sony's horror film Bring Her Back, directed by the Philippou brothers, opened with £499,877 from 499 cinemas, with previews lifting its total to £1.2 million. Other horror entries like I Know What You Did Last Summer and 28 Years Later added £195,150 and £94,671 respectively to their totals, now at £2.5 million and £15.4 million.
Yash Raj Films' Saiyaara, an Indian romance, held impressively with only a 3% drop, adding £489,484 to surpass £2 million, making it the year's highest-grossing Indian film in the UK-Ireland market.
Other noteworthy entries included Warner Bros.' F1: The Movie, which added £485,798 in its sixth weekend, taking it to £20.8 million. Smurfs added £353,000 (total £3.8 million), while How To Train Your Dragon continued to perform with £184,568, crossing £22 million.

Even long-running titles such as Lilo & Stitch remain strong in cinemas, adding £58,000 in its 11th weekend to reach £36.9 million.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps continues its box office dominance as it heads toward breaking more MCU records in the region.

What a game and what a win! Come on India, always my India!'Meanwhile, Rahul said that the series "will rank right at the top" among the biggest moments of Indian cricket as it was pulled off by a team that "wasn't given a chance" in the absence of giants like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma."We have seen India lift the World Cup, I mean nothing compares to lifting the World Cup. But so many doubts, so many questions from everybody about whether Test cricket will stay or not. I think both the teams and the way we've played in this series, I think we've answered that question," Rahul said at the post-match press conference."For us as a team, that wasn't given a chance in this series. And for us to fight back and to fight in every game and to get a result which is 2-2 might seem like a drop. But for us and for Indian Test cricket going in the future, I think this will rank right at the top," he said that this is just the beginning and that the team will win many series "outside of India and the whole team deserves it.""For the start of the series, we had Virat Kohli retiring, Rohit Sharma retiring, we had Ashwin retiring. So three big names out of the roster in India's team," he pointed their retirements, it is Rahul himself who is one of the senior players. He did not disappoint and was among India's top performers, scoring 532 runs across the five Tests and forged a fine partnership with the younger Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top."Yeah, I think it hit me when I joined the team. I was here about two weeks earlier playing India A's and it didn't hit me back then. But once I joined the team and I looked around and I didn't have Rohit and Virat and Ashwin who I played all my cricket with..."Just to look around and not see them felt a bit weird. But yeah, that's when it hit me that everyone else is looking at me, coming to me to ask about English conditions, what they need to do, how they need to prepare."Rahul said he relied on his experience to do his bit in not just performing but also steering the younger lot."And that's when it hit me that, okay, I've stepped into a different role now and it's time for me to help the younger guys. Use all the experience I've had of playing Test cricket and international cricket over the years and really put my hand up and stand up for this team."This moment almost feels like this is a young team that's going to stay there for a long time.

Why a female-led Ullozhukku's National Award win feels personal
In a landscape where Indian cinema has often been questioned for its representation of women, 'Ullozhukku' stands as a powerful counter-narrative. Featuring Parvathy Thiruvothu and Urvashi in the lead roles, directed by Christo Tomy, this emotionally charged film was a character study of morally flawed characters and their difficult choices. 'Ullozhukku' won Best Malayalam film, while Urvashi bagged Best Supporting Actress at the 71st National Film the film is viewed as one that highlights patriarchal conditioning and women claiming agency, for me, it was an empowering film that promotes the strength of sisterhood. Director Christo Tomy crafted a powerful climax featuring the brilliant Urvashi and Parvathy, who remind us that the ultimate power a woman can hold is the power of there is chatter surrounding certain undeserving films and artistes winning National Awards, 'Ullozhukku' stood out as a deserving winner. The film released in theatres in June 2024 to an overwhelming positive response, garnering praise for the direction and performances of the lead cast. 'Ullozhukku', translated into English as undercurrent, revolves around three characters - Leelamma (Urvashi), her son Thomas Kutty (Prasant Murali), and daughter-in-law Anju (Parvathy Thiruvothu). Leelamma is constantly worried about Thomas Kutty, who suffers from a life-threatening disease. Anju dutifully takes good care of him. The narrative takes a twisted turn when Thomaskutty dies, and secrets begin to emerge alongside the rising floodwaters in Alappuzha, Kerala. 'Ullozhukku' talks about the complex relationship between a daughter-in-law, her mother-in-law and the underlying secrets between them. What sets 'Ullozhukku' apart is how it breaks all the stereotypes. A film that revolves around a mother-in-law and a daughter-in-law almost never shows them bickering. Christo's mother-in-law character, Urvashi's Leelamma, is not the typical villainous mother-in-law but a mother who selfishly hides her son Thomaskutty's health issues to see him married. Leelamma even openly admits to Sister Aunty that she was not trying to deceive Anju or her Parvathy's Anju is not entirely innocent. She is a woman in an unhappy marriage who has an affair, all while taking care of her terminally ill husband. This nuanced characterisation and the conflicts that arise elevate the film beyond conventional melodrama, presenting morally complex characters whose actions stem from deeply human motivations. The film never judges the two characters and their hidden motives. Instead, it shows how they are trapped in their lives.'Ullozhukku' is an exploration of unexpected solidarity between the two women who might otherwise be positioned as adversaries. Despite their differences, Leelamma and Anju share a deep sense of orphanhood - both were brought into this house through marriages that turned them into caregivers, stripped them of their individuality and confined them within four audiences who have long craved meaningful female representation in cinema, 'Ullozhukku's National Award win feels like a personal win. The film's success proves that stories centred on women's experiences - especially the often-overlooked dynamics between women in traditional family structures - can succeed and how!advertisement'Ullozhukku's win is a reminder and proof that quality filmmaking with realistic storytelling can still triumph in a landscape often dominated by commercial entertainers. The film suggests that in times of crisis - both personal and societal - it is not your family, not your in-law's family, but often the connections between women that provide stability and sisterhood that emerges in 'Ullozhukku' is not forced. It's rooted in shared experiences of displacement, duty, and the quiet sacrifices that women make.- Ends
