Egypt, Italy discuss securing ceasefire in Gaza, Libya - Foreign Affairs
According to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two ministers asserted the need for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya as a critical step toward restoring stability.
They also stressed the importance of dismantling militias and the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya, describing this as the only viable path to ensuring long-term peace and preventing irregular migration across the Mediterranean.
Additionally, FM Abdelatty reviewed Egypt's intensive diplomatic efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid to starving Palestinians to alleviate their suffering amid Israel's ongoing genocidal war.
For his part, the Italian foreign minister praised Egypt's relentless efforts to halt the war and ensure the unrestricted entry of humanitarian aid to Gaza's starving population.
Tajani also expressed Italy's full support for the planned International Conference on the Early Recovery and Reconstruction of Gaza, which Egypt will host once a ceasefire is secured, confirming his country's participation in the conference.
Both ministers also agreed to maintain close coordination to intensify international pressure for reaching a ceasefire and unfettered humanitarian aid access to Gaza.
Furthermore, both sides exchanged views on the escalating tensions in the Horn of Africa.
FM Abdelatty also highlighted Egypt's concerns regarding the Nile River and water security, reiterating Cairo's position on the need for adherence to international law governing shared water resources.
He stressed the importance of cooperation based on consensus and mutual benefit to safeguard the interests of all Nile Basin countries.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's rejection of unilateral actions that violate international law in the Eastern Nile Basin.
He asserted that Cairo will take all the necessary measures, in line with international legal frameworks, to protect its vital water interests.
Both ministers also underscored the importance of continued coordination between Egypt and Italy, particularly given the strong ties between the two countries' leaderships.

The policy decision passed by a narrow 9–2 vote, an unusually divided outcome for a consensus-driven institution. It marked the first time in more than three decades that two Fed governors dissented from the majority on a key interest rate decision. The President nominates all members of the Fed's Board of Governors, subject to confirmation by the U.S. Senate. Turkey, Italy and Libya held talks in Istanbul - Region
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday hosted a mini-summit in Istanbul with the prime ministers of Italy and Libya's UN-recognised government for talks on several issues including migration, officials said. Images from what the Turkish presidency called "Turkey-Italy-Libya cooperation summit" at Erdogan's Istanbul office showed leaders gathered around a table. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also attended the talks. At the meeting, Erdogan said it was important to cooperate in addressing the challenges faced by the Mediterranean basin, including irregular migration movements, according to his office. He also said long-term and sustainable solutions "are needed to eliminate the root causes of irregular migration". Libya has been gripped by unrest since the 2011 overthrow and killing of longtime ruler Moamer Kadhafi in a NATO-backed uprising. The country is now divided between the UN-recognized government in Tripoli and a rival administration in the east, aligned with military commander Khalifa Haftar. It has become a hub for tens of thousands of migrants trying to reach Europe, risking their lives at sea. At the Istanbul talks, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni discussed a series of options to combat international criminal networks of human traffickers, better prevent irregular movements, and support Libya in managing the migratory pressure it is under, according to a statement from her office. Erdogan's government maintains close ties with Libya's UN-backed government especially on defence and energy issues, as does Italy, the country's former colonial ruler and the main destination for migrant boats leaving Libyan shores. The Turkish leader also raised the "humanitarian tragedy" in Gaza during the Istanbul talks, the presidency said. Israel has been waging war on Gaza for nearly 22 months and has enforced a five-month blockade since March, which has pushed the territory's 2.3 million people into famine. Erdogan said "the international community bears great responsibility for establishing an immediate ceasefire and delivering humanitarian aid to the region as soon as possible." Italy to Begin Airdropping Humanitarian Aid to Gaza on August 9
Nada Mustafa Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto announced that Italy will begin airdropping humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip starting next Saturday, August 9. In remarks reported by the Italian news agency ANSA on Saturday, Minister Crosetto stated: "I have given the green light for a mission that will involve resources from the army and the air force, under which essential goods will be transported and airdropped to civilians in Gaza who have been severely affected by the ongoing conflict." Crosetto explained that "the operation is expected to begin within the coming hours, with a team being dispatched to carry out preparatory activities and coordinate with local authorities."
