North Andover police officer shot while being served restraining order says she "never pointed my firearm at the officer"
Officer Kelsey Fitzsimmons, 28, was shot once in the chest when three North Andover police officers went to her home on June 30 to serve a restraining order. Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker said one of the officers shot Fitzsimmons after an "armed confrontation."
According to court documents, her fiancé feared for the safety of their 4-month-old child. Fitzsimmons was on administrative leave at the time of the incident.
In a statement released through her attorney Thursday, she said she was contemplating taking her own life with her gun, not harming the officer who shot her.
"I never pointed my firearm at the officer," Fitzsimmons said.
"From the very beginning I acknowledged my diagnosis of postpartum depression and immediately sought help from medical professionals. I was failed by so many. The narrative that has been released by NAPD is vague and noncommittal for a reason. If body cameras were worn by my department, I would not be in a position where I am wrongly accused of pointing my gun at this officer. I know the truth will prevail."
Fitzsimmons is still in the hospital and she's also facing criminal charges. She's charged with armed assault with intent to murder and two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon. An arraignment date has not been set yet.
Fitzsimmons has been with the North Andover Police Department for about a year and a half.

In September of 2022, Tyler Boebert flipped his father's SUV into a creek, leaving the person in his passenger seat with multiple concussions and a severely lacerated hand. He was ticketed for careless driving. The case was eventually dropped down to a 'defective vehicle for headlights' ticket under a plea deal. Then, in January 2024, he called the police to report that his father, Jayson, was assaulting him, leading to his arrest. During the incident, the father 'pushed Tyler to the ground and pushed his thumb into his mouth,' according to the arrest affidavit. A month later, Tyler was slapped with more than a dozen felony charges for a series of thefts from vehicles – and for using stolen credit cards at local gas stations. Tyler Boebert pleaded guilty last October to a single charge of attempting to commit identity theft and was given a two-year deferred judgment, allowing his felony to be cleared from his record after completing his 24-month probation term. He was required to complete 80 hours of community service and was banned from using controlled substances. It was not immediately clear whether the most recent citation would be a breach of his probation. He is due in Weld County Court on September 8. Lauren Boebert did not immediately return The Independent's request for comment.

Police issue update as protest groups gathered outside Essex hotel
Peaceful protests took place outside an Essex hotel this afternoon, police confirmed. Specific measures were put in place by Essex Police as further protests took place outside The Bell Hotel in Epping. A ban on face coverings and designated areas for protestors and counter-protestors were introduced to allow calm procedures. A group of protesters against The Bell Hotel formed at around 1pm and officers facilitated a march by a group of counter-protests from the tube station to their designated area at 4pm before escorting them back a short time later. Chief Superintendent Simon Anslow said: 'I want to thank those who attended for the peaceful nature of both protests. 'Our role is to ensure that you can express your democratic right to protest safely and lawfully and we had a proportionate and robust plan in place to ensure that could happen. 'I am pleased that today has passed off without incident and I am grateful to our colleagues from other forces for their support.' A police spokesman confirmed three arrests were made on Sunday. A 52-year-old man from Loughton on suspicion of a public order offence, a 53-year-old Loughton woman, from the anti-hotel protest group, on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence connected with a previous protest, and a 27-year-old woman, from the counter-protest group, on suspicion of criminal damage and a public order offence. They are all currently in custody.

Stockton woman sitting in her car shot during robbery struggle
A Stockton woman sitting in her car was shot during a robbery early Sunday morning, Stockton Police said. Just after 2 a.m., police said that a 44-year-old woman was sitting in her car on the 500 block of North Stanislaus Street when a man forced his way into her car. The suspect allegedly shot the woman during a struggle and then left the scene with her purse, police said. She was taken to a hospital with an injury that was not life-threatening. According to police, the suspect showed up at a hospital with a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was arrested at the hospital, police said. Police identified the suspect as 27-year-old Antonio Eppinger and said he was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and robbery.
