New York State trooper launched over guardrail after semi-truck plowed into patrol car during traffic stop on Thruway

New York Post07-06-2025
A New York State trooper was seriously injured when a semi-truck plowed into his parked patrol car on the side of a busy upstate highway – obliterating the cruiser and sending the cop flying over a guardrail, police said.
The freakish incident unfolded around 12:39 p.m. Friday as the trooper was conducting a traffic stop on the New York State Thruway in Schenectady County, just 25 miles southwest of Albany.
The trailer-less tractor was traveling westbound on Interstate 90 when it slammed into the squad car, according to state police, which shared startling images of the collision.
4 The collision obliterated the New York State Police cruiser Friday afternoon.

Police said the impact hurled the trooper, who was standing on the passenger side of a Honda Odyssey involved in the traffic stop, over the metal barrier and tumbling down an embankment.
'The incident is a powerful reminder: New York's Move Over Law is not optional,' police said, referring to a state law that requires motorists to slow down and shift lanes when a vehicle is stopped on an Empire State roadway.

'When you see emergency, police, fire, or highway crews on the shoulder – slow down and move over. Lives depend on it.'
Images of the wreck showed the mangled cop car perched atop the flattened guardrail, its rear end sheared off, car hood damaged, windshield shattered and airbags deployed.
The cruiser also smashed into the back of the Honda, leaving it severely damaged and shuttering the thruway for hours.
4 The trooper was sent to the hospital with serious injuries.

The trooper was taken to Albany Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The Honda driver and passenger suffered minor injuries and were transported to St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, police said.
4 The wreck, which sent the driver and passenger involved in the traffic stop to the hospital, closed the highway for hours.

It was not immediately clear if the truck driver, who was not identified, was charged.
'We wish our Trooper a full and speedy recovery,' police said.

Fleeing Police, Suspect Carjacks BMW To Keep Running

Read the full story on The Auto Wire This police chase featuring a Georgia trooper driving like a professional wheelman, a suspect carjacking a BMW, and more is gripping. It's more nerve racking and interesting than just about any movie car chase scene as a desperate suspect and a desperate trooper match starts with the trooper trying to pull over a crappy car (a Nissan Sentra?) for a traffic violation. The thing is beat up, has a busted taillight, and it's not a great option for fleeing from police. Still, the suspect tries to run. But soon enough he pulls into a parking lot and ditches the econo-box, running away on foot and using a gun to carjack a BMW from some poor innocent bystander. As the guy tears out of the neighborhood where he took the Bimmer, cops start swarming. We can't imagine what the guy's thinking with the extreme show of force, but he keeps on driving like crazy to try getting away. He gaps the trooper by a good distance before too long, pushing the little German car for all it's worth. But the trooper keeps it together, relying on his training even though he knows in the back of his mind if he loses the armed and clearly dangerous man, some innocent person might be killed. Taking to the interstate, the suspect passes on the shoulders, thanks to fairly thick traffic. There are plenty of close calls as the speed and potential danger of the chase elevate dramatically. One close call in particular with another cruiser crossing the median makes the trooper scream in terror as he almost wrecks out. All that hard driving leads to one of the tires on the BMW blowing out. He keeps pushing the stolen car, even though he's clearly having trouble controlling it. Sadly, we don't get to see the conclusion to this chase, apparently because YouTube thought it was too much. We see him crash the BMW, but in the rest of the foot he gets out with the gun pointed at his head. Somehow, troopers are able to de-escalate the situation and take the guy into custody without further violence. 7-Eleven employee, 24, left brain-dead after manager ‘sat on top of her' in violent ‘senseless' attack dies

A California 7-Eleven employee was left brain-dead after her manager sat on top of her during a 'senseless' on-the-job attack — and died Wednesday after she was taken off life support. Jessica McLaughlin, 24, was working at a Los Angeles 7-Eleven on June 24 when her unidentified female manager — who remains at large — 'violently and senselessly attacked' her after the pair got into an argument shortly after 2 p.m., the Los Angeles Times reported. 3 Jessica McLaughlin, 24, will be taken off life support following the attack that left her brain-dead. Facebook During the attack, the deranged Big Gulp slinger pulled McLaughlin's hair and sat down on her employee's upper body with her full weight, preventing her from breathing. 'She held her down, sat on top of her, and didn't let her breathe,' the victim's brother Sean McLaughlin wrote in a GoFundMe. Concerned co-workers tried to pry the madwoman off McLaughlin but became targets themselves, Fox11 reported. While they attempted to revive McLaughlin, the manager supposedly ran into the 7-Eleven's back office and tried to erase security footage, according to the GoFundMe. 3 Other 7-Eleven employees witnessed the attack and futilely attempted to revive McLaughlin. KTLA McLaughlin collapsed while struggling free and never regained consciousness. She was taken to Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital in serious condition, and doctors declared her brain-dead due to a lack of oxygen, the LA Times reported. Her family decided to take her off life support days after the attack, and she died Wednesday, according to Fox 11. 'Jessica had a way of making people feel safe, accepted, and loved. You could come to her with anything and know you wouldn't be judged,' her brother wrote on GoFundMe. 3 McLaughlin was declared brain dead at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital shortly after the vicious assault. GoFundMe 'She had such a beautiful soul and deserved so much better than the way her life was taken from her.' Cops are still seeking her suspected attacker, and the investigation is ongoing. 'Our hearts are with those impacted during this difficult time. The suspect has been terminated, and we continue to fully cooperate with law enforcement in their investigation,' 7-Eleven said in a statement.
