Fleeing Police, Suspect Carjacks BMW To Keep Running
This police chase featuring a Georgia trooper driving like a professional wheelman, a suspect carjacking a BMW, and more is gripping. It's more nerve racking and interesting than just about any movie car chase scene as a desperate suspect and a desperate trooper match wits.Everything starts with the trooper trying to pull over a crappy car (a Nissan Sentra?) for a traffic violation. The thing is beat up, has a busted taillight, and it's not a great option for fleeing from police. Still, the suspect tries to run.
But soon enough he pulls into a parking lot and ditches the econo-box, running away on foot and using a gun to carjack a BMW from some poor innocent bystander.
As the guy tears out of the neighborhood where he took the Bimmer, cops start swarming. We can't imagine what the guy's thinking with the extreme show of force, but he keeps on driving like crazy to try getting away.
He gaps the trooper by a good distance before too long, pushing the little German car for all it's worth. But the trooper keeps it together, relying on his training even though he knows in the back of his mind if he loses the armed and clearly dangerous man, some innocent person might be killed.
Taking to the interstate, the suspect passes on the shoulders, thanks to fairly thick traffic. There are plenty of close calls as the speed and potential danger of the chase elevate dramatically. One close call in particular with another cruiser crossing the median makes the trooper scream in terror as he almost wrecks out.
All that hard driving leads to one of the tires on the BMW blowing out. He keeps pushing the stolen car, even though he's clearly having trouble controlling it.
Sadly, we don't get to see the conclusion to this chase, apparently because YouTube thought it was too much. We see him crash the BMW, but in the rest of the foot he gets out with the gun pointed at his head. Somehow, troopers are able to de-escalate the situation and take the guy into custody without further violence.

'Sick to my stomach': New York golf course suffers severe damage from vandals
A New York-area golf club is recovering from vandals tearing up some of its fairways and greens. The private club Skenandoa Club, located in Clinton, New York, posted several photos of the severe damage done to the golf course, with tire marks all over. Body of Alaska cruise passenger found 1,700 feet below ridge line of intended hike
The body of a Norwegian Cruise Line passenger who went missing in Alaska has been recovered. Marites Buenafe, 62, vanished Tuesday after texting her family that she was going for a hike in Juneau, according to an Alaska State Troopers missing persons bulletin. She was reported missing after not returning to the Norwegian Bliss on time that afternoon. On Thursday, an Alaska Army National Guard helicopter spotted her body roughly 1,700 feet below the ridge line of the area she planned to hike, state troopers shared in an update via Juneau Police. 'Troopers and Juneau Mountain Rescue were able to recover her body with the assistance of Temsco Helicopters and the National Guard,' read the troopers' Facebook post, which thanked the agencies and volunteers involved. Disappearance timeline State troopers said Buenafe texted her family at around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, saying she was headed to Mount Roberts Tramway and planned to hike Gold Ridge to Gastineau Peak. Security footage showed her leaving the buildings at the top of Mount Roberts Tramway at about that time. She was supposed to return to the Norwegian Bliss by 1 p.m. that day, for the ship's scheduled 1:30 p.m. departure. A Norwegian spokesperson said multiple attempts were made to contact the guest before the ship departed. CruiseMapper shows the Bliss continuing on its week-long Alaska cruise sailing, which originated in Seattle on June 28. Search and recovery Multiple agencies searched the Gold Ridge area until Buenafe's body was recovered below the ridge line of Gold Ridge at around noon Thursday. 'Her next of kin have been notified, and her body will be sent to the state medical examiner's office for autopsy,' according to Alaska State Troopers. Norwegian told USA TODAY it's assisting local authorities in the investigation. Dutch intelligence services say Russia has stepped up use of banned chemical weapons in Ukraine
THE HAGUE, Netherlands -- Two Dutch intelligence agencies said on Friday that Russia is increasing its use of prohibited chemical weapons in Ukraine, including the World War I-era poison gas chloropicrin. The Netherlands' military intelligence and the security service, together with the German intelligence service, found that the use of prohibited chemical weapons by the Russian military had become 'standardized and commonplace' in Ukraine. According to the findings, the Russian military uses chloropicrin and riot control agent CS against sheltering Ukrainian soldiers, who are then forced out into the open and shot. Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans called for more sanctions against Moscow, and continued military support for Kyiv. Brekelmans, who stayed on in a caretaker role after the Dutch government collapsed last month, said that he doesn't want to see the use of chemical weapons become normalized. Lowering the threshold for use 'is not only dangerous for Ukraine, but also for the rest of Europe and the world,' he said in a statement. Russia has signed up to the Chemical Weapons Convention, which bans the use of chloropicrin and CS as weapons. The convention's watchdog, The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, or OPCW, has found several incidents in Ukraine involving CS, but the group hasn't conducted a full investigation, which must be requested by the member states. The executive committee for the OPCW is holding a regular meeting next week, where it's expected to discuss the conflict in Ukraine. Russian authorities didn't immediately comment on the findings, but they have denied using chemical weapons in the past, instead alleging that Ukraine has used the banned substances. According to Ukraine, Russia has carried out 9,000 chemical weapons attacks in the country since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022.
