Teen cyclist charged in collision with vehicle in Vaughan, Ont., police say
The collision happened around 3 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Beverley Glen Boulevard and Dufferin Street, York police said in a news release.
When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered a white vehicle in the right-turn lane of Dufferin Street, on the northbound side, and a damaged bicycle nearby.
Police said the cyclist, 17, was already being treated by paramedics for minor injuries. The driver of the vehicle was uninjured.
Police found that the teen had been cycling south in a northbound bike lane, without a helmet. Bicycle helmets are legally required for cyclists under the age of 18 in Ontario.
The 17-year-old has now been charged with careless driving and operating a bicycle without a helmet, police said.

A 32-year-old man is in hospital after a stabbing in Montreal's Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough, Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2025. (Cosmo Santamaria/CTV News) A 32-year-old man is in hospital after a stabbing early Tuesday morning in Montreal's Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough. Montreal police (SPVM) received a 911 call at 1:45 a.m. about the incident on Cadillac Street between Hochelaga Street and Pierre-De Coubertin Avenue. When officers arrived on site, they located the man with injuries to the upper body. 'The victim was conscious and breathing when emergency vehicles arrived,' said Jeanne Drouin, a spokesperson with Montreal police. He was transported to hospital, and his condition is considered not life-threatening. Soon after, officers located a suspicious-looking vehicle at the corner of Hochelaga and Dickson streets. 'Two individuals, a man aged 34 and a woman aged 32, were spotted and arrested not far from the intersection,' Drouin said. 'According to the initial information received, the individuals involved are all known to each other, but the exact link should be determined by the investigation.' Two security perimeters have been set up to allow investigators to canvass the areas.

Driver dead following single-vehicle crash on Highway 54 in Haldimand County
One person has died following a single-vehicle crash on Highway 54 in Haldimand County, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said. OPP Sgt. Ed Sanchuk said the crash happened just after midnight Tuesday between Onondaga Townline Road and Harrison Road and claimed the life of the driver. According to Sanchuk, Haldimand County OPP, Haldimand County Fire Department, and Haldimand County EMS responded to the crash. "I'm sad to say that the driver of the vehicle suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene," Sanchuk said. He said Haldimand Road 54 will be closed between Onondaga Townline Road and Harrison Road until around 12 p.m. because of the investigation.
