Kajol-starrer 'Maa' collects over Rs 25 crore at box office in three days

NEW DELHI: Maa, a mythological horror film starring Kajol, has earned Rs 25.41 crore gross at the worldwide box office during its first weekend, the makers said on Monday. Directed by Vishal Furia, best known for Lapachhapi, Criminal Justice and Chhori, the film is written by Saiwyn Quadras. It released in theatres on June 27. Presented by Jio Studios and Devgn Films, the film is produced by Jyoti Deshpande and co-produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak. The makers shared the box office numbers on the X handle. "Mytho horror wins big. Total worldwide GBOC of 25.41 crore," read the text over the film's poster. The film opened with Rs 4.93 crore nett at the domestic box office and went on to collect Rs 6.26 crore nett and Rs 7.24 crore nett on the following days. The total domestic box office collection of Maa stands at Rs 18.43 crore nett. "When Mytho met Horror, the audience couldn't look away! #MaaTheFilm in cinemas now. Book your tickets here," read the caption of the post. The film narrates the story of a mother who becomes Goddess Kali to end a demonic curse rooted in fear, blood, and betrayal. It also stars Indraneil Sengupta, Kherin Sharma and Ronit Roy.

Against the backdrop of what appears to be majestic Kashmir, the scenes showcase some of the most beautiful locations. Kajol looks as beautiful as ever, and Prithviraj marks his powerful presence on the screen. After a couple of fighting scenes, the introduction of Ibrahim follows. The actor can be seen removing his shirt, revealing the wounds on his back. His full-grown beard and moustache make him look like someone else completely. We bet fans are surely looking forward to seeing him in this rugged avatar. Earlier reports suggested that Sarzameen will revolve around the story of an army officer's hard-hitting mission to combat some negative activities in Kashmir, where Ibrahim plays the antagonist. Sarzameen first look: The much-awaited first glimpse at Karan Johar's Dharma Production, Sarzameen is here. On Monday, JioHotstar dropped the first look of the patriotic film Sarzameen. It stars Kajol, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Ibrahim Ali Khan. In the over one-minute long video, Prithviraj Sukumaran debuts as an upright army officer. Set against the background of snow-capped mountains, of Kashmir, the video introduces Kajol as his emotional wife. As Prithviraj is ready to give it all for his country, Kajol worries about him. Saif Ali Khan's son Ibrahim Ali Khan who made his Bollywood debut with Netflix's Nadaaniyan, stunned in an intense, beefed up, rugged avatar. Sporting a bearded look, he is seen surrounded by man in pathani suits and fighting one of them. Towards the end, Ibrahim's character dons an army uniform and wields a gun at Prithviraj in the woods. The film will be release on July 25. Set against the tense and turbulent landscape of Kashmir, the film focuses on Vijay Menon (Prithviraj), a man driven by duty and marked by personal sacrifice. At home, Meera (Kajol), a wife and a mother, anchors the family with quiet strength and resilience. Harman (Ibrahim) is a young man battling with fragmented memories and painful revelations.
