Andrew Flintoff not looking to succeed Brendon McCullum as England head coach
Flintoff is overseeing the fortunes of England Lions and Northern Superchargers in The Hundred, having returned to cricket following his Top Gear crash that left him with severe facial and rib injuries.
He has been linked with the top England post, possibly if McCullum opts against extending his contract with the national side that covers all three formats and runs up to and including the 2027 World Cup.
But Flintoff rejected the notion, instead choosing to highlight how big a fan of McCullum he is, likening the New Zealander's influence to Sir Gareth Southgate with the England football team from 2016-24.
Asked about the prospect of taking over from McCullum, the 2005 Ashes hero told the Stick to Cricket podcast: 'It's not something I'm looking at, Baz McCullum is incredible – the best England coach.
'He's unbelievable and the culture he's created is incredible. It's similar to what Gareth Southgate did with the football lads; they are not just good players but great lads as well.
'I'm enjoying working under Keysy (England managing director of men's cricket Rob Key), it's no secret he's one of my best mates and he's helped me so much in other things. With Baz, we've got a great relationship and the utmost respect.'
Flintoff, a former England captain, initially joined then white-ball head coach Matthew Mott's backroom team on an ad-hoc basis in September 2023 although he did not travel to that year's World Cup in India.
He was, however, involved afterwards and part of England's coaching staff at last year's T20 World Cup, which following a semi-final exit led to Australian Mott's sacking.
Flintoff last year lifted the Superchargers to within a whisker of the knockout stages in his first season, after they had finished bottom of the standings the year before, while he presided over a tour to Australia last winter with the Lions, who have recently drawn two unofficial Tests against India A.
The 47-year-old former all-rounder added: 'Honestly, at the moment, I feel as though I'm in the perfect place working with the Lions. I don't see this as a stepping stone to anything else, I'm invested in this and get a chance to work with these lads.
'I'm not looking at the franchise world or anything else, although I do the Northern Superchargers which came around last year and I enjoy working with (Superchargers captain) Harry Brook on that.
'I've been guilty of, in the TV world and in retirement, of always looking for the next thing, chasing things. I'm actually really happy, working with great lads and great staff around me. I think 'I've got a job to do here' and it's not like 'what's next?'.'

Habib Diarra: Sunderland break club transfer record with £27m deal
Sunderland have broken their transfer record for the second time since they were promoted to the Premier League with the signing of Habib Diarra from Strasbourg for a fee that could rise to £30million. The club have paid £27million for the 21-year-old Senegal international, who scored in his country's 3-1 victory against England at the City Ground last month. There is potentially a further £3million in add-ons. The fee tops the permanent signing of the French midfielder Enzo Le Fée, whose move from Roma could eventually cost the club £20million. Diarra will be a direct replacement for Jobe Bellingham, who moved to Borussia Dortmund last month for a fee that could rise beyond £30million. Diarra has 11 caps for his country and was a regular in the Strasbourg side who finished seventh in Ligue One last season. 'Habib is an exciting talent and we are delighted to welcome him to Sunderland,' Kristjaan Speakman, the Sunderland sporting director, said. Arsenal complete £5m deal for Arrizabalaga Arsenal have confirmed the signing of the goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea after activating the Spaniard's £5million release clause (Tom Allnutt writes). Arrizabalaga has signed a three-year contract and will provide cover for David Raya next season. Arrizabalaga joined Chelsea for £71.6million from Athletic Bilbao in 2018, which is still the world-record transfer fee for a goalkeeper. But he struggled for consistency at Chelsea and eventually joined Real Madrid on loan for the 2023-24 campaign, where he was signed after an injury to Thibaut Courtois. Arrizabalaga made 35 appearances last season during another loan at Bournemouth, who were unable to afford a permanent deal due to the 30-year-old's wages. Arsenal were also keen on Espanyol's Joan García this summer but the 24-year-old has opted to sign for Barcelona, prompting the move for Arrizabalaga instead. In a statement, Arsenal said Arrizabalaga was joining 'to reinforce our goalkeeping unit'. Arrizabalaga said: 'I'm really, really happy to be here, really excited and looking forward to what is coming. 'The ambition that is shown in this club, when I talk with Mikel [Arteta] and Inaki [Cana, Arsenal's goalkeeping coach], how much they show me their desire to win … I think we are so close to winning and, hopefully, altogether, we can achieve it.' Arsenal are also close to completing the signing of Christian Norgaard from Brentford in a deal worth around £13million and Martín Zubimendi for £55million from Real Sociedad. Norgaard is due to undergo his medical this week, as Arteta looks to bolster his options in central midfield. 'He gives me advice if I need to ask him any questions. He'll get me in the gym and stuff like that, so he's good,' Acheampong said. Asked on his best advice, he said: 'I would say to stay focused. Always, every day, try your best, work your hardest, do extras. Obviously, there's tough days. Training might be tough, you might play a bad game, but you've got to try and stay focused.'
