19-year-old faces car theft charges in Memphis, Nashville
Bryun Watkins is facing theft of property $60,000-$250,000 and vandalism $1,000-$2,500 charges after Memphis Police say he stole a RAM TRX truck last month.
Arrest made in gas station shooting that left 2 injured
In court, prosecutors say even though the incident was non-violent, Watkins' extensive juvenile record and continued threat to public safety warranted a high bond amount.
According to the Shelby County District Attorney's Office, Watkins also has a pending charge in Nashville relating to a separate car theft involving four other suspects.
On May 9, detectives say they saw a stolen white Ram TRX in the area of Hollywood Street and Staten Avenue. That is when the detectives say they parked across the street from the location and watched.
Shortly afterward, the driver of the stolen vehicle pulled out of the parking lot and parked directly in front of the detective, blocking them in.
The driver then waved at the detectives, whom they immediately recognized as Bryun Watkins. They say they also recognized the juvenile sitting in the front passenger seat. Two unknown individuals were also reported in the backseat.
Ex-property management employee charged with burglarizing homes
As the detectives called for backup, the driver allegedly sped off in the stolen vehicle that had a broken window on the passenger side and no tag.
Detectives say they later found the stolen vehicle unoccupied in the area of Lenow Place and Lenow Park. They say the vehicle's ECM has been reprogrammed, causing the owner's keys to no longer function.
Waktins was booked into jail on May 30. He is due back in court on June 20.

Trump says there likely won't be a trade deal with ‘spoiled' Japan
President Trump says Japan, which he characterized as 'spoiled,' will likely not make a deal with the United States on a tariff rate ahead of the looming deadline next week. 'We dealt with Japan. I'm not sure if we're going to make a deal. I doubt it with Japan — they're very tough. You have to understand, they're spoiled. I love Japan. I really like the new prime minister, too. Abe was one of my closest friends, as you know,' he said on Tuesday, referring to former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe who died in 2022. The president hosted the current Japanese prime minister, Shigeru Ishiba, at the White House in February. Trump noted this week that Japan has a rice crisis that has elevated prices, arguing the country should turn to the U.S. for rice. 'But they and others are so spoiled from having ripped us off for 30, 40 years that it's really hard for them to make a deal. You know, it's very hard. As an example with Japan, they won't take rice, and yet they desperately need rice,' he said. 'They won't take any cars, but they'll sell millions. So, we told them, 'Sorry you can't do that.'' The president said Japan will likely get a letter that would set the tariff rate ahead of the July 8 expiration of the 90-day pause on country-specific tariffs. Trump has said he will send letters soon to trading partners who haven't struck deals. 'So what I'm going to do is I'll write them a letter, say, 'We thank you very much. We know you can't do the kind of things that we need, and therefore you'll pay a 30 percent, 35 percent or whatever the numbers that we determine,'' he said. 'Because we also have a very big trade deficit with Japan, as you know and it's very unfair to the American people.' Hyundai Ioniq 6 N Teased One Last Time With Serious Performance Cred
Last month, Hyundai began the teaser campaign for its upcoming Ioniq 6 N, a performance-focused electric sedan in the same vein as the Ioniq 5 N crossover. Only it won't be quite the same as the Ioniq 5 N, says Hyundai. The Korean automaker has teased the sedan once more, announcing that it will be revealed on July 10 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and revealing that significant changes under the skin will set the Ioniq 6 N apart from its taller sibling. There are three major points of interest to discuss, along with a short teaser video (embedded at the bottom of this article), so let's get started. Much of the speculation surrounding the Ioniq 6 N had centered around the idea that this will be little more than an Ioniq 5 N with a new body sitting on top of it. While the Ioniq 5 N would make a fine foundation for a new performance EV, the Ioniq 6 N is not pasting everything it's copied from the crossover. With a lower ride height, the Ioniq 6 N has unique suspension geometry with a lower roll center and enlarged caster trail (the distance between the point where the steering axis intersects the ground and the center of the tire's contact patch). This, says Hyundai, should improve the on-center steering feel and self-centering behavior, as well as result in more feedback through the wheel. Finally, new electronically controlled stroke sensing dampers promise to offer the Goldilocks balance between comfort and precision. Hyundai also touts "advanced" N e-shift technology that is now available in every drive mode. This is a big deal because, as many a reviewer has bemoaned, the Ioniq 5 N can't provide simulated shifts when in its drift mode, so this change could make the Ioniq 6 N even more fun to drive. Hyundai says the new system will closely mimic motorsport-inspired close gear ratios, and the addition of a new 'N Ambient Shift Light' should further enhance engagement with the car. The sounds in the teaser clip below also seem to be inspired more by a naturally aspirated engine than a turbocharged one, so everything about the Ioniq 6 N should be just a little more exciting than it is in the 5 N. Related: Hyundai's N Division Isn't Done With Gas-Powered Cars The last piece of information provided by Hyundai is that the N Drift Optimizer, or drift mode, has been enhanced with a broader range of customization options that promise tailored control based on skill level. It sounds to us a lot like the 10-stage traction control system in a BMW M4 or the eight-stage system in the Aston Martin Vantage. In a nutshell, the Ioniq 6 N will be even more thrilling to drive than the Ioniq 5 N, and that's a car almost universally regarded as the most enjoyable EV on the market. See you in a week for more.
