Bosses have applied for permission for the new store in Port Glasgow, Inverclyde.
If given the green light, the fashion and homeware retailer will have a store in the town's Gallagher Shopping Park.
The unit is right next to an Aldi but currently houses a Poundland.
But the Port Glasgow Poundland is one of the 100 stores the bargain retailer has sold off.
Matalan want to make a lot of changes to the unit of they take over.
They want to "demolish existing walls, doors and services and strip back to shell from current occupier".
It will also add new compartment walls, partition walls, doors, fire doors, furniture and services.
There are currently 26 Matalan stores in Scotland and it is an extremely popular option for shoppers.
The chain has currently launched a launched a massive 50 per cent sale on clothing and homeware with prices starting from just 50p.
There are hundreds of other clothing and homeware items on offer ready to be snapped up.
Matalan expands and renovates as Sainsburys axes caffeinated fan favourite
The latest big sale comes as Matalan superfans have recently been raving about their lesser-known clearance stores which have items up to 70% off.
The possibility of a new shop is good news for the retail sector in a time when more shops are closing and high streets continue to suffer.
Just last month, Matalan announced they would be opening ten new shops across the country in a massive shake-up for the firm.
Despite businesses feeling the squeeze, the future looks bright for some.
We told how Aldi revealed 115 "prime" locations where they want to open new shops.
