The retail chain had previously been owned by Polish company Pepco Group since 2016. Poundland's store in Port Glasgow, which is located in the Gallagher Shopping Park, is set to close on August 10. Earlier this month, department store Matalan lodged plans for a new branch in the unit currently occupied by the Inverclyde shop. It is currently unknown if any jobs are at risk. A Poundland spokesperson told the Greenock Telegraph: "We told colleagues at the store some weeks ago that they were sadly one of the 68 locations Poundland planned to close as part of it's restructuring and recovery plan. "It goes without saying that we are formally consulting with colleagues at the store and that work is underway. "Over time, Poundland expects to have a store network of around 650-700 stores in the UK and Ireland compared to close to 800 today. "While that remains a very sizeable network, we understand how disappointing it will be when one nearby closes." Matalan hopes to make a lot of changes to the unit it takes over. They will also add new compartment walls, partition walls, doors, fire doors, furniture and services. Poundland has made an announcement which outlines a series of changes in a bid to keep the business afloat. But these will need to be approved by the High Court in August. 2 A budget retailer with 800 UK stores to close a Scottish branch Credit: Getty The company operates around 800 stores and employs about 16,000 people.

One of the most popular bakeries in London has opened a second site
Hackney's Forno – an Italian-style bakery from the same people that run Cambridge Health pasta restaurant Ombra – have casually opened a second site. This is very, very good news. Ombra chef Mitshel Ibrahim quietly launched the new Forno earlier this month on Church Lane in Leytonstone, and it's open daily from 8am until 4pm. Forno is known for its cornetti – aka the Italian croissant – as well as bubbly focaccia, sourdough bread, and all manner of sweet Italian patisserie and cakes, such as torta caprese and maritozzi cream buns. The OG Forno is also home to a deli which sells filled and stuffed pasta, fresh sauces, cold cuts, Italian cheeses, and wines, as well as focaccia sandwiches and daily changing soups at lunchtime. It also serves Roman pizza in the evening, and rumour reaches us that this is also the plan for the new Leytonstone location. Forno in Hackney is currently hosting a weekly Friday night listening bar takeover called Brillo, where DJs play vinyl-only sets while punters eat pizza and drink natural wine and negronis. Heaven? Close enough! This isn't the only foodie news to come out of Leytonstone this week. The east London neighbourhood is also getting a brand new M&S Food Hall. The store opens Thursday, July 17 at 9am. Spread over 12,000 feet, it takes over the site of an old Matalan, and will boast a bakery, coffee station and flower and wine shops – as well as M&S' usual food offerings. Find Forno 2.0 at 47 Church Lane, Leytonstone, E11 1HE.

East London is getting a massive new M&S this week
Back in April Marks and Spencer announced that it would be pumping a whopping £90 million into its London stores – and that the capital would soon receive six new M&S Food Halls. This week one of those supermarkets will officially open its doors in a prime east London location. Marks and Sparks' new Food Hall will open on Leytonstone High Road this Thursday, July 17 at 9am. The store, which is spread over 12,000 feet and takes over the site of an old Matalan, will boast a bakery, coffee station and flower and wine shops – as well as, of course, M&S' usual food offerings. A total of 55 new jobs have been created for the store, including 14 from M&S's Marks and Starts youth training scheme. The scheme is run with The King's Trust and helps 16 to 30 year-olds gain retail experience. Commenting on the new opening, Councillor Ahsan Khan, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing at Waltham Forest Council, said: 'Supporting our young residents into employment is a priority for us at the council, and I am delighted that Waltham Forest residents have secured new jobs through the Marks and Start programme. Our employment teams have worked closely with M&S in the past, so it's great that we have been able to work together again to help even more young people gain employability skills. 'This has been made possible by our regenerative work in the borough, looking at new opportunities for our town centres, attracting reputable retailers like M&S to expand locally.' We told how Aldi revealed 115 "prime" locations where they want to open new shops.
