Cristiano Ronaldo has convinced Joao Felix to join Al Nassr for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, emphasising national team synergy.
Star Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo raised a plan, citing the national team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to convince Joao Felix to join him at Al Nassr, according to a report in Portuguese outlet Record. After two weeks of facing an uncertain future, Felix is reportedly all set to complete a move to Al Nassr.
The report says that Ronaldo removed the youngster's concerns about choosing Al Nassr over Benfica by using a very powerful argument: the national team.
Ronaldo said that by playing together at the Saudi team, both he and Felix could develop a profound understanding of themselves throughout 40 to 50 official games, besides 300 joint training sessions before the FIDE World Cup.
According to the report, Ronaldo said that their playing together could prove decisive in manager Roberto Martinez's final choice for the Portuguese national side. Felix understood the implication of that, which played a crucial role in his decision to join Ronaldo at Al Nassr.
Felix signed for Chelsea last year for a reported fee of £44.5m, after joining the team on a loan deal in 2023.
Felix is one of several players Chelsea have put up for sale this summer, along with the likes of Christopher Nkunku, Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Jackson.
Felix hoped to revive his career in Serie A but continued to struggle, forcing AC Milan to change their plans and reject the opportunity to sign him.
Despite his struggles, Felix still had supporters at Benfica and his boyhood club was in advanced negotiations to bring him back, but it seems like Ronaldo's words had a bigger impact on him.

Divya Deshmukh clinches Women's Chess World Cup gold: How much prize money will she receive?

. Indian chess prodigy Divya Deshmukh became the youngest to win the FIDE Women's World Cup on Monday at just the age of 19, outshining the seasoned Koneru Humpy in the tie-breaker of an all-Indian final. With her win, a feat that left the teenager emotional, Deshmukh not only earned the prestigious title but also became a Grandmaster. The victory for the Nagpur player came after the two classical games played on Saturday and Sunday ended in draws. After the drawn games, it was the first set of tiebreakers that proved decisive as Humpy lost her ground. Divya Deshmukh became the 88th Grandmaster of the country, as she emerged victorious over Humpy at the FIDE Women's World Cup. She his now the fourth Indian woman player to achieve the GM feat after Humpy, Dronavalli Harika and R Vaishali. 'I need time to process it (win). I think it was fate, me getting the Grandmaster title this way because before this (tournament) I didn't even have one (GM) norm, and now I am the Grandmaster,' she said. Divya Deshmukh secured a gold, Humpy Koneru pocketed silver, while China's sensation Tan Zhongy finished the tournament with a bronze medal. According to the FIDE website, the total prize fund accumulated for this year's Women's World Cup was $691,250. Out of this, the winner will be given $50,000. This means Divya Deshmukh received a prize money of $50,000, or roughly ₹ 43.5 lakh for winning the prestigious championship. The FIDE World Cup also awards three spots to the FIDE Women's Candidates Tournament to be held in the first half of 2026. However, the prize money is significantly lower than that of the FIDE World Cup (Open section, which includes both men and women), where the winner gets $110,000. During the tense contest, a string of inaccuracies in the second rapid game contributed to Koneru's downfall. She found herself a pawn down in the rook endgame, which played out in Divya's favour. The veteran allowed the situation to sink in and resigned on the 75th move and fell short in a gripping final with a score of 2.5-1.5.

Cristian, son of Francesco Totti, announces retirement at 19

Cristian, son of AS Roma legend Francesco Totti, announced his retirement from football at the age of 19 on Monday. Though he gave no official reason for the decision, several media reports have claimed that the pressure of being a legend's son weighed too much on him. Totti, a FIFA World Cup winner with Italy in 2006, spent his entire career at AS Roma, playing over 780 matches and scoring 307 goals. He won the Serie A once and the Coppa Italia, and Supercoppa Italiana twice with the side, earning the nickname L'Ottavo Re di Roma (the eighth King of Rome) from the club's fans. Cristian, however, had a different trajectory in professional football. Cristian's most recent experiences included short spells with Avezzano & Olbia in Italy's fourth division. | Photo Credit: Instagram/cristiantotti__ He began his youth career at Roma but limited game-time — 15 minutes across two U18 — saw him move to Frosinone Primavera, where he scored once in four matches. He then had a brief spell at Rayo Vallecano in Spain, while his most recent experiences included short spells with Avezzano & Olbia in Italy's fourth division. However, he constantly remained under heavy criticism — especially body shaming — on social media, with some calling him Captain Salsiccia (Captain Sausage). 'He was treated like dirt because he's the son of Francesco and Ilary (Blasi),' Ninni Corda, the technical director of Olbia, had told Sportitalia in an earlier interview. Cristian, however, will not be away from football entirely. He will now work at the Totti Soccer School, founded by his father.
