Jamie Carragher Predicted £70m Liverpool Transfer Months Ago
Liverpool's summer transfer window has been anything but quiet, with Arne Slot's side looking to reinforce an attack that has at times leaned too heavily on Mohamed Salah's goals. Fresh from winning the Premier League in his debut season, Slot knows strengthening the forward line is crucial if Liverpool are to maintain their dominance, and Hugo Ekitike has emerged as the name on everyone's lips.
Ekitike Edges Towards Anfield Move
After Liverpool's approach for Alexander Isak was turned down by Newcastle United, attention turned firmly towards Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike. Talks between the clubs accelerated this past week, though reports on Saturday suggest an agreement is not yet finalised. Even so, the momentum points towards Ekitike soon wearing Liverpool red.
At just 22, Ekitike has already packed plenty into his young career. After a sparkling breakthrough in Ligue 1, he earned a move to PSG that perhaps came too soon. But a switch to Frankfurt has seen him rediscover form and confidence, making him exactly the type of profile Liverpool's recruitment team target: young, hungry and with significant upside.

Carragher's Sharp Prediction
Jamie Carragher, as ever, was ahead of the curve. Back in April, speaking on the 'It's Called Soccer!' podcast, the former Liverpool defender offered his thoughts on Ekitike.
'There's the lad at Eintracht Frankfurt who scored against Tottenham in the week, and I'm not going to try and pronounce his name!' Carragher laughed.
'Ekitike, that smacks to me as the type of player Liverpool would sign. I think he's 22, he's at a club who you'd think would probably be a selling club, he's done really well there.'
Carragher added, 'He went to PSG as a very young boy after sort of lighting up the French league as a young kid, and it didn't quite work out for him. But he's still really young, he's got great numbers this season and it almost looks to me as the type of player Liverpool would sign rather than maybe going for an Isak.'
Changing Transfer Models
Interestingly, Carragher's assessment of Liverpool's strategy may need revisiting. While he was right to highlight Ekitike's profile, he was less accurate when it came to Isak.
'Every club would love Isak,' Carragher said. 'Do I think Liverpool could buy Isak? I don't know. I'm not sure Liverpool would want to pay that type of money for one player, I don't think it's really in the model. I think Liverpool's model is 'we'll get the next Isak'. They're probably kicking themselves saying 'why didn't we get Isak from Real Sociedad?' So, I don't think they'll go and absolutely break the bank for him.'
Yet this summer, Liverpool have already committed a significant sum for Florian Wirtz, indicating a willingness to spend big where necessary. Ekitike may be next, but Liverpool's ambitions clearly stretch beyond just finding the 'next big thing' on a budget.
Liverpool's New Era Under Slot
Arne Slot's first year could hardly have gone better, but sustaining success requires constant renewal. Ekitike's arrival would signal a fresh phase, blending established stars like Salah and Wirtz with rising talents. For Liverpool supporters, it is an exciting moment, one where smart recruitment and bold ambition intertwine. As Jamie Carragher foresaw months ago, Ekitike could soon be walking out at Anfield, ready to write the next chapter in Liverpool's rich attacking tradition.

Barcelona forward ‘set to complete' €15m move
Barcelona on the verge of sealing their biggest sale of the summer so far, as they look to raise funds for to register new signings. Forward Pau Victor arrived for just Victor is unlikely to get much in the way of opportunites though, having played just 379 minutes under Hansi Flick this past season. With the arrival of Marcus Rashford, slated for today, Victor seems unlikely to receive much more in the way of chances next campaign, and has been left out of Barcelona's preseason tour to Japan and South Korea in order to settle his future. Offer from Braga for Pau Victor It reported that Victor had an offer on the table that he was keen to accept, but it seems the deal is much further along than previously though. The Athletic report that Victor is 'set to join' the Portuguese side, with the deal bringing in €12m for Barcelona, plus a further €3m in variables. Fabrizio Romano has added that Barcelona are negotiating to include a buyback clause in the 23-year-old's contract. Valencia drop out of race A number of clubs had been previously linked with Victor, who impressed in preseason last summer, and finished as top scorer for Barca Atletic two years ago. The most recent were Valencia, who had supposedly enquired about Victor's services. Yet RadioMarca say that due to the prospective cost of the deal, they have decided to look at other options. Los Che have not forked out such a high fee since spending €35m on Jasper Cillessen in 2019. Image viaBarcelona sales this summer Victor would be a sixth exit this summer for the Blaugrana. Clement Lenglet came to an agreement to terminate his deal before joining Atletico Madrid, while Ansu Fati and Ander Astralaga have joined AS Monaco and Granada on loan respectively. Pablo Torre has joined RCD Mallorca in a €5m deal, and Alex Valle has signed for Como in a €6m deal. Although Barcelona have benefitted from some sell-on clauses, Victor's exit would more than double their current takings.

Report – Inter Milan Determined To Offload Albania EURO 2024 Star Despite Real Betis Rejection
Inter Milan will not change their stance on Kristjan Asllani despite the player's recent decision to reject a move to Real Betis. According to FCInter1908, Asllani has no future at San Siro, with the Nerazzurri determined to cash in on his exit. Kristjan Asllani turned down a transfer to Andalusia earlier this summer. Though Inter accepted Betis' offer, the 23-year-old decided against joining Manuel Pellegrini's side. Indeed, he pointed to family reasons as the basis for his decision. Inter Milan Eager to Sell Kristjan Asllani MILAN, ITALY – JANUARY 19: Kristjan Asllani of FC Internazionale in action during the Serie A match between FC Internazionale and Empoli FC at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on January 19, 2025 in Milan, Italy. (Photo by) Asllani is keen to stay in Serie A and won't accept any foreign offers. However, his position diminishes Inter's chances of finding a club capable of matching their €18 million asking price. Indeed, only a handful of Italian sides can meet that figure, and none has interest in the Albanian. Meanwhile, Inter plan to use funds from Asllani's sale to finance the arrival of Ademola Lookman. Furthermore, they're still interested in Giovanni Leoni to strengthen Cristian Chivu's backline.
