China's first police Corgi has 400,000 followers and a nose for trouble
With a keen sense of smell and legs that seem too short for his body,
Fu Zai
has won a huge social media audience that has followed him doing official duties since he started as a sniffer dog last fall. He was a puppy when a trainer spotted him at a park and recruited him to
Weifang Public Security Bureau
in Shandong.
A love of earning treats as rewards has earned Fu Zai strong performance reviews. But it's also proved a challenge, as his trainer has found that keeping him in line is not easy.
Fu Zai was caught on camera recently grabbing a bite of a sausage in a child's hand during patrol. Officers have since tried to train him to better resist food, but many on social media offered support — and free sausages — for Fu Zai the next time he patrolled the streets.
In another video, some of the corgi's toys and snacks — part of a Lunar New Year 'bonus'— were confiscated for sleeping on the job and using his bowl as a urinal.
Experts said such behaviour is normal for corgis. 'That's why they're challenging, too, because they get distracted pretty easily,' said Leonardo Palacio, owner of a training school in Connecticut.
Fu Zai is an unusual choice for police work. Traditionally, corgis were bred to work on farms, herding cattle by biting their ankles.

In recent times, they have become popular choices for pets, most famously associated with Queen Elizabeth II. But some have retained the propensity to nip. That trait might dissuade trainers when assessing the suitability of a dog for disciplined forces, said a trainer at Hong Kong Canine.
Fu Zai's trainer said he had initially ruled out a corgi as a police dog because of the breed's reputation. Meeting Fu Zai changed his mind.
He later invited Fu Zai to train at the police base. Over the next few months, the corgi excelled in detecting explosives. Moreover, he could fit under tight spaces some other dogs couldn't reach.
Fu Zai became a full-fledged member of Weifang police in Oct. He has since been beamed around the internet as a friendly face for the force, making frequent appearances on its official account on Douyin, China's version of TikTok. A separate account, named 'Fu Zai and his comrades,' has more than 400,000 followers. But the drive for food that helped him land the job also gotten him into some of his troubles. Whether as temptation he can't resist or a treat used in training, there will probably be more sausage in Fu Zai's future.

Disabled man dies in Gurgaon jail before release; family alleges negligence, jail denies wrongdoing
GURGAON: A 47-year-old physically disabled man died after his health deteriorated in Gurgaon's Bhondsi jail on Friday. Lokesh Kumar , a resident of Gurgaon, was arrested by the Proclaimed Offender (PO) staff of the Gurgaon police on 24 June in connection with a cheque bounce case. According to his family, Kumar, who had an 80% disability, was on bed rest after being discharged from a local hospital just ten days before his arrest. Kumar, an insurance agent, is survived by his mother, wife, son, and daughter. On Friday, while Kumar's family waited outside Gurgaon jail for his release—after he was granted bail by a local court—an ambulance arrived at the jail gate. Police officers rushed the unconscious Kumar to a nearby civil hospital. The family attempted to check on him as he was being placed in the ambulance but received no response. They followed the ambulance to the hospital, where Kumar was admitted to the emergency ward. The family accused jail staff of abandoning Kumar at the hospital without informing them. However, jail authorities claimed that Kumar had been suffering from multiple illnesses—including polio, heart disease, and intestinal issues—which caused his condition to worsen just minutes before his scheduled release. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Secure Your Child's Future with Strong English Fluency Planet Spark Learn More Undo Advocate Anuj Raghav, a relative of the deceased, said that when the PO staff came to arrest Lokesh Kumar, the family pleaded with them not to take him into custody due to his poor health. "He had 80% disability and was not well. The PO staff told us that Kumar had been declared a proclaimed offender as he had not appeared in court for a cheque bounce case, and they were bound to arrest him. They took him into custody from his home on 24 June, and he remained in jail until he was granted bail on Friday. After the bail order was sent to the jail, the family waited outside to take him home," Raghav said. He further claimed that the jail authorities failed to inform the family about Kumar's deteriorating health and took him to the hospital, where he was later declared dead. The family alleged that the police left Kumar at the hospital without notifying them. Kumar's paternal cousin claimed he died in police custody and demanded an inquiry. However, Naresh Goyal , superintendent of Gurgaon jail, said that Kumar was already ill and denied any negligence by the jail staff. "He had recently undergone intestinal surgery and was a heart patient. He also had polio and a swollen foot. After receiving his bail orders, we were preparing for his release when he fell ill. Without delay, the jail staff took him to the civil hospital in the jail's ambulance, but he died there," Goyal said. He added that a post-mortem was conducted on Saturday and the family was informed about Kumar's condition. "The family acknowledged his poor health and is now satisfied that there was no fault on the part of the jail staff, and that it was a natural death," Goyal concluded.

‘I am sure there will be no hurdle': Bilawal Bhutto claims Pakistan open to handing over Hafiz, Azhar to India; says New Delhi must cooperate
File photo: Pakistan's former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto (Picture credit: ANI) Pakistan's former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that Islamabad would be open to extraditing individuals of concern, including terror accused, as a goodwill gesture to India, provided New Delhi is willing to cooperate in the process. Speaking to Al Jazeera, Bilawal, who also heads the Pakistan People's Party, said that such a move could be part of a 'comprehensive dialogue' between the two countries, where terrorism is discussed as a key issue. "As part of a comprehensive dialogue with Pakistan, where terrorism is one of the issues that we discuss, I am sure Pakistan would not be opposed to any of these things," he said, when asked whether figures like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Hafiz Saeed and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) founder Masood Azhar could be handed over as a sign of good faith. Bilawal clarified that cases currently prosecuted against these individuals were related to domestic offences, such as terror financing. He, however, blamed India's "noncompliance" for the lack of progress on cross-border terrorism charges. "India is refusing to comply with certain basic elements that require that conviction to take place," Bilawal said, pointing to the need for Indian witnesses to testify in Pakistani courts. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Providers are furious: Internet access without a subscription! According to Pakistan's National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta), both LeT and JeM are proscribed outfits. Hafiz Saeed, the 26/11 Mumbai attacks mastermind, is currently serving a 33-year sentence in Pakistan for terror financing. Masood Azhar, a UN-designated global terrorist, has also been banned by Nacta. Addressing concerns about Azhar's whereabouts, Bilawal claimed, "It is our belief that he is in Afghanistan," adding that Pakistan had so far failed to locate or arrest him. 'If and when the Indian government shares information that he is on Pakistani soil, we will be more than happy to arrest him,' he further said. Dismissing allegations that Hafiz Saeed was free, he said, 'It is factually not correct that Hafiz Saeed is a free man; he is in the custody of the Pakistani state.' Responding to India's assertive posture on terror, Bilawal called it a 'new abnormal,' warning it could harm both nations. 'This does not serve the interests of Pakistan, and it does not serve the interests of India,' he said. A 2025 Global Terrorism Index ranked Pakistan as the second-most terrorism-affected country, with a 45% rise in terror-related deaths, especially near the Afghanistan border. Bhutto has previously insisted that Pakistan met the Financial Action Task Force's (FATF) standards, citing convictions and seizures of over 90 extremist-linked institutions.

Nehal Modi is accused of aiding in concealing and transferring proceeds of crime through an international network of entities, in violation of Indian financial laws. His brother Nirav Modi, the primary accused in the PNB case, is currently facing extradition proceedings in the United Kingdom. Live Events The next hearing in Nehal Modi's extradition case is scheduled for July 17, 2025. A status conference will be held on that date, where he may seek bail — a move the US prosecution has already said it intends to oppose. The PNB scam, estimated at over $2 billion, involved fraudulent Letters of Undertaking issued by the bank to companies linked to Nirav Modi and his associates, sparking one of the largest crackdowns on financial crime in India's history.
