Meghan Markle's popularity in the United States has had highs and lows in the five years since she moved back to America from Britain.
Currently, she has a positive net favorability score, but it has not always been that way after backlash in the aftermath of Prince Harry's book Spare and their Netflix show Harry & Meghan.
Markle still has not recovered the level of popularity she enjoyed before the couple's 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview, but she is broadly on positive terms with the U.S. public.
Meghan Markle's Popularity Before Oprah
U.S. polling on the popularity of the royals is rare compared to Britain, but not non-existent. YouGov has conducted a number of surveys over the years, including in November 2020.
Markle was liked by 57 percent and disliked by 30 percent, giving her a net approval rating of plus 27. This compared to Prince Harry at +40, Princess Kate at +49, Prince William at +54 and King Charles III at -13.
The couple's rift with the monarchy had not yet fully exploded into the public domain and they had only recently signed their Netflix deal that September.
There had, though, been public backlash after Markle called for the "change we all need and deserve" on behalf of former first lady Michelle Obama's "When All Women Vote" initiative in the run-up to the presidential election that toppled President Donald Trump that month.
In January 2020, YouGov asked Americans whether they supported or opposed Harry and Meghan stepping back from the monarchy. Exactly half supported the move, 7 percent opposed it and 43 percent answered "don't know."
On March 5, 2021, as teasers from Oprah's interview began to drop, YouGov asked whether people were mostly sympathetic to the royals or the Sussexes.
At that point, 29 percent backed the Sussexes and 13 percent backed Queen Elizabeth II and the royals, while most said either "both," "neither," "don't know" or "not applicable."

Meghan's Popularity After Oprah
On March 8, 2021, YouGov conducted a snap poll immediately after its broadcast that showed 68 percent of Americans had sympathy for Harry and Meghan compared to 27 percent who had either not very much or none.
This compared to 28 percent who had sympathy for the royals and 68 percent who had either not very much or none.
In other words, Americans initially appeared to take Harry and Meghan's side in the immediate aftermath of the interview.
By, May 2022, however, YouGov ran further polling that showed a slump in Meghan's net favorability ratings. Meghan was liked by 45 percent of Americans and disliked by 36 percent, giving her a net approval rating of +9.
A drop of 18 points compared to November 2020 may seem sharp, but she remained in positive numbers and the slump was significantly less severe than in Britain, where she dropped deep into negative territory.
Meanwhile, Harry dropped to plus 18, a 22-point slide, Kate slipped to plus 36, William to plus 31 and Charles crept up to minus 7. Queen Camilla was at minus 13.
Meghan's Popularity Around Spare and Netflix
Redfield & Wilton conducted further polling on behalf of Newsweek on December 5, 2022, days out from the release of the couple's Harry & Meghan biopic and three months after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
At that time, 43 percent of Americans liked Meghan and she was disliked by 20 percent, meaning a net approval rating of plus 23.
Harry was at plus 38, Kate plus 43 and William plus 40, while Charles was at plus 12 and Camilla minus 2.
However, the couple crashed in the aftermath of Prince Harry's memoir Spare and Netflix in the eyes of the U.S. public.
Further polling by Redfield & Wilton for Newsweek on January 16 showed Meghan dropped 36 points, after she was liked by 26 percent of Americans and disliked by 39 percent, giving her a net approval rating of -13.
Harry dropped 45 points to minus 7, while Kate slipped to plus 26, William to plus 21, Charles to plus 8 and Camilla to minus 8.
Meghan's Popularity in 2025
YouGov's most recent polling of Americans came in April, when 41 percent liked Meghan and 26 percent disliked her, giving a net rating of plus 15.
Meanwhile, Harry was at plus 35, Kate was at plus 43, William was at plus 53, Charles was at plus 21 and Camilla was at minus seven.
In summary, Meghan has consistently polled behind William, Kate and Harry and in front of Camilla. She has mostly polled ahead of King Charles except in the most recent poll, in which he did unusually well.
While she may not command figures as strong as her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, she has substantially bounced back from her lowest point in the aftermath of Spare.
She has not, though, regained the high ratings she enjoyed before Oprah, in November 2020.

All we know about Alistair 'Yellow' Douglas today, the musician last seen with missing Amy Bradley

Viewers of Netflix's latest true crime drop, Amy Bradley Is Missing, a three-part documentary examining the sad case of a young woman named Amy Lynn Bradley, who disappeared during a cruise ship holiday with her family in March 1998. At the time, she was just 23 years old. More intriguing still, since then there have been multiple rumoured sightings of Bradley, everywhere from the Dutch Caribbean island of Curaçao to Barbados and California – yet her family are still desperately seeking an answer and concrete evidence as to where she could be. In the Netflix series, one person who was pointed out to be a person of interest in Bradley's case was a musician, Alister 'Yellow' Douglas, whose band was playing on board the Royal Caribbean International cruise ship, Rhapsody of the Seas, when she vanished. Reports were made that Douglas had been seen dancing with Bradley in the early hours of the morning before her family raised the alarm that she was nowhere to be found. Douglas always denied any wrongdoing and that he played any sort of rule in Bradley going missing. Here, we take a deep-dive into who Alister 'Yellow' Douglas is, what he's said about Amy Bradley's case and where he is today. Alister Douglas, better known by his nickname 'Yellow' (a nod to his signature brightly dyed yellow hair), was once a vibrant presence aboard the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Rhapsody of the Seas, thanks to his turn at playing bass guitar in the ship's live band, Blue Orchid. When Amy Bradley vanished in the early hours of 24 March 1998, during what should have been a dream family holiday, surveillance footage and eyewitness testimony placed her with Douglas in the ship's nightclub just hours before she disappeared. The two were seen dancing together, and reports suggest they were also spotted on the deck after midnight. As one of the last known people to see Bradley, Douglas became a key figure in the investigation. The FBI grilled him extensively, and he even agreed to take a polygraph test, which he reportedly passed. Despite the scrutiny, no charges were ever filed against him, and he faded from the investigation as authorities pursued other leads. After the intense scrutiny from media and the police, Douglas became relatively anonymous over the following decades with his whereabouts were unknown – until late 2024, when investigative journalist James Renner, who has a YouTube channel dedicated to true crime, uncovered Douglas's surprising new life. Now in his 50s, Douglas has traded his bass guitar for a Bible. He resides in a remote mountain community in Grenada, where he serves as a reverend. His congregation is small—40 to 50 members—and his church is described as a 'humble shack' perched on the mountainside. But what's perhaps most striking about his new life is his practice of exorcism, a dramatic turn from his days as an entertainer. Speaking on Renner's YouTube channel, Douglas recalls Bradley approaching him after his set and telling him that she played saxophone, her dad was an insurance manager who had recently discovered she was gay and forced her to go on the cruise (something her family have denied), and that she was smoking a lot. "About five minutes to one I said 'I have to go, I have to be out of passenger area' and I left. That was my last conversation, last time I saw her," Douglas states, contradicting the three witnesses who claimed to have seen her on the upper deck with Douglas between 5:30 and 5:45am. Later in the interview he adds, "Around 7 o'clock, I was awakened by a call by the hotel manager and he asked me 'Douglas, do you have a woman in your room?'. It was forbidden, it was forbidden dating [...] And I said 'no' and I asked why, he said 'The woman you were talking to last night in the club, we can't find her'." After, as per Douglas' account, the ship was then grounded and nobody could enter or exit. "Everybody was interrogated," he said. "Lie detector tests... At that time, they didn't say anything much to me, they took the [wires] off me." Douglas added that an FBI agent later interviewed him on multiple occasions, telling him again that he was clear. "I've lost so many opportunities because of this," Douglas shared. "Once my name was entered [into Google] they would say I had something to do with this missing girl and I would lose the contract. "The truth, no matter how long it is, always surfaces." 5 new to Netflix movies with 90% or higher on Rotten Tomatoes

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Netflix has confirmed its slate for July 2025, and I'm picking out the top new additions that scored highly on review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. This month's newcomers include a stirring romantic drama starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga; you can probably guess it from that vague description. Plus, there's also a pair of 'Mission: Impossible' movies that see Tom Cruise in full flow performing death-defying stunts and saving the world even when the odds are seriously stacked against him. If you're planning a Netflix movie marathon this weekend, these movies all make for excellent choices. So, here's the best new to Netflix movies according to Rotten Tomatoes. 'A Star is Born' (2018) 'A Star is Born' became a major cultural phenomenon in 2018, and even all these years later, you're never far from hearing its enduring original song 'Shallow' played in a bar or grocery store. Starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, it's the third remake of the 1937 original, but it certainly doesn't feel derivative, with a fantastic cast, smart direction from Cooper and a soundtrack that you'll be playing on repeat for weeks after watching. Ally (Gaga) is a waitress and hopeful musician who meets Jackson Maine (Cooper), an alcoholic country rockstar whose star is fading fast. Their chance encounter in a dive bar leads to an intense romance, but as Ally's fame rapidly rises, Jackson struggles to battle his own demons. Triumphant in parts, but also deeply tragic, 'A Star is Born' is a mesmerizing romantic drama with award-caliber performances from Gaga, Cooper and Sam Elliott. Rotten Tomatoes score: 90%Watch on Netflix now 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol' (2011) Netflix has added the first five 'Mission: Impossible' movies this month, and it won't come as a surprise to franchise fans that 'Ghost Protocol' has made this list. The fourth installment, 'Ghost Protocol,' took the series to a new level and set the standard that subsequent sequels would look to match. Even if follow-ups 'Rogue Nation' and 'Fallout' surpassed it, in my opinion at least, this entry still offers some jaw-dropping set pieces, including a sequence that sees superspy Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) scale the Burj Khalifa skyscraper in Dubai. In 'Ghost Protocol,' the IMF (Impossible Missions Force) is blamed for a devastating terrorist attack on the Kremlin. Disavowed by the U.S. government, and with the eponymous protocol activated, it's up to Hunt and his team (Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Paula Patton) to discover the true culprits, clear their names, and save the world from a nuclear threat. Rotten Tomatoes score: 94%Watch on Netflix now 'Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation' (2015) Successfully following up a rip-roaring action blockbuster like 'Ghost Protocol' seemed a tall order, but credit to the creatives behind 'Mission: Impossible' because they did just that in 'Rogue Nation.' This sequel offers up more thrilling spy set pieces, and the section set in a Viennese opera house is among my favorite moments in the whole franchise. Plus, 'Rogue Nation' adds Rebecca Ferguson to the cast, which is always a win. 'Rogue Nation' sees the IMF disbanded, with the team's unconventional methods questioned by CIA director Alan Hunley (Alec Baldwin). But in the shadows, a clandestine organization known only as the Syndicate is working to install a new world order, and Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) must reunite with this team to locate this sinister new threat. In short, 'Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation' is one of the best action blockbusters of the past decade. Rotten Tomatoes score: 94%Watch on Netflix now 'Captain Philips' (2013) Tom Hanks gives one of his most powerful performances in this intense thriller from director Paul Greengrass. Inspired by true events, it sees Hanks play the titular Richard Philips, a merchant mariner who is at the helm of a container vessel when it's hijacked by Somali pirates, led by the desperate Abduwali Muse (Barkhad Abdi). Philips' priority is keeping his crew safe from harm, but as the situation escalates, the pirates become more desperate. Even if you've never seen 'Captain Phillips,' you've probably encountered the 'I'm the captain now' meme, but this gritty thrill ride is so much more than a frequently shared online clip; it's gripping from the get-go, and Hanks' performance will have you enthralled. Gritty, grounded, and surprisingly multi-layered, 'Captain Phillips' is a masterclass in building tension. As the hostage situation develops, things reach a dramatic climax that you won't soon forget. Rotten Tomatoes score: 93%Watch on Netflix now 'Tangerine' (2015) Before Sean Baker became the toast of Hollywood, winning Best Picture and Best Director at the 2024 Oscars for his latest project, 'Anora,' he helmed an equally unflinching portrayal of the sex work industry, 'Tangerine.' In fact, this 2015 movie is an even more uncompromising exploration of the sex work industry. It focuses on a side of Los Angeles that strips away the glitz and glamour and instead presents something that feels undeniably real and raw. Sin-Dee Rella (Kitana Kiki Rodriguez), is a transgender sex worker who's just got out of jail and learns from a close friend, Alexandra (Mya Taylor), that her boyfriend/pimp has been cheating her on while she was locked up. Determined to locate her boyfriend Chester (James Ransone), Sin-Dee and Alexandra search the city on Christmas Eve on a mission to settle the score. Rotten Tomatoes score: 96%Watch on Netflix now More from Tom's Guide New on Netflix in July 2025 Netflix just cancelled two new shows — and third could follow Netflix just got 'Born on the Fourth of July'
