Detectives probing the brutal murder of Euan 'EJ' Johnston in 2016 are carrying out searches near the Soroba Road area of Oban, it has been revealed.
The 26-year-old was fatally shot during a targeted attack while he sat in his motor on Scotland Street in Glasgow, on November 15, of that year.
Johnston died from his injuries. Following that, on May 10, 2018, a 33-year-old man was convicted of his murder at the High Court in Glasgow.

(Image: Newsquest) According to cops, more than one person was at the scene of the murder, and the case remains open.
Due to this, officers have said investigations have been continuing, and a team of detectives, specialist officers, and national resources are now carrying out detailed searches in a grass embankment area where a firearm possibly connected to the murder could be situated.
(Image: Newsquest) Police are also appealing for any new information which may help them get justice and answers for Mr Johnston's family.
The search near Oban is expected to last several days, with the force saying there will be an increased police presence in the area.
(Image: Newsquest) Detective Superintendent Peter Sharp said: "We know from our enquiries that there was more than one person involved in the murder of Euan Johnston, and we are determined to bring those responsible for his death to justice.
"Although his murder was almost nine years ago, time is no barrier for justice, and we are working to get answers for Mr Johnston's relatives.
"They have been informed of these new searches, and specialist officers are supporting them during this difficult time.
"We will keep them updated as our investigations continue.
"As well as our searches, I am appealing for anyone with information, and who may not have already spoken to us, to do so now.
"A significant amount of time has passed since Mr Johnston's murder, and we understand that allegiances have may have changed over the time.
"If you have any information, no matter how insignificant, please come forward.
"All new information will be taken seriously and thoroughly investigated.'

"Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
(Image: Crown Office) Following the murder, we reported how two friends were driving home after a meal in the city's Southside.
The driver of the Audi RS4, Euan Johnston, was on the phone to his partner, 33-year-old Danielle Carruthers, to let her know he was heading home.
Johnston was waiting at traffic lights when an Audi Q5 pulled up alongside his car at the junction of Shields Road and Scotland Street in Kinning Park.
A man then stepped out and opened fire with three shots before jumping back in the motor and speeding off.
As he was fatally shot, Johnston's foot floored the accelerator, and his car lurched forward into a barrier, crumpling the front end.
Two bullets hit the 26-year-old in the head, with one going through his brain, causing a fatal injury. A third bullet hit the rubber seal around the car's driver door.
(Image: Newsquest) The driver's window of the mangled Audi RS4 was also blown out, with shattered glass littering the footwell.
The front seat passenger, former Scots guard Brian McMahon, 31, urgently contacted emergency services to say that his pal had been shot.
After being rushed to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Johnston died a few hours later after his life support machine was switched off.
Meanwhile, the Audi Q5 escaped onto the M8 over the Kingston Bridge towards the north of the city.
Detectives then quickly established a timeline for the murder, with CCTV showing the victim being tailed for up to an hour before the shooting by the getaway motor.
The car used by the gunman and alleged accomplices was later found burnt out in Balmore Road, Milton.

Glasgow Kneecap fans label TRNSMT axe 'disgusting' as trio play sold out gig

"It's not like they're saying anything that's wrong, everything they're saying is absolutely correct. People don't like hearing the truth." Fans at Kneecap's Glasgow gig have rallied around the Irish rap group, labelling it "disgusting" that the trio were axed by TRNSMT. The rappers were originally billed to headline the King Tut's stage on Friday at the TRNSMT Festival, however the group, made up of Móglaí Bap, Mo Chara - who is accused of terrorism offences related to a Hezbollah flag he allegedly held up on stage - and DJ Próvaí, were dropped from the line-up at the end of May over Police Scotland safety concerns. ‌ Instead, Kneecap were booked to headline the city's O2 Academy tonight, to not disappoint their fans who hoped to see them perform in the city - with the show selling out in 80 seconds. ‌ The three members of Kneecap arrived at the O2 Academy in Glasgow this evening greeted by pro-Palestinian demonstrators waving flags. The rap group, who perform in English and Irish, have been outspoken critics of the war in Gaza and claim the prosecution is linked to their views on Palestine. Naoise Ó Cairealláin, also known as Móglaí Bap, entered the building wearing a retro-remake version of Celtic's iconic 1996 bumblebee shirt. While being ushered into the venue, he could be seen carrying a leaflet calling for the charges against his bandmate to be dropped and for Prime Minister Keir Starmer to be arrested. A number of fans and demonstrators spoke outside the venue about their support for Kneecap, often declining to give their surnames. ‌ One called Meghan said she and her friend Amy had originally planned to go to TRNSMT before deciding to go to the Kneecap gig instead. She said it was 'disgusting' the band had been dropped from the line-up, adding: 'I think people are just scared for them to express proper problems in the world. They just want to shy away from it whereas Kneecap just come out and say it like it is.' ‌ Pro-Palestinian protester Naomi added: 'We're of the opinion the establishment is so under threat, they're having to look to ridiculous means to try and silence outspoken voices. We applaud Kneecap.' Cat Train, of the group Mothers against Genocide, said: 'They've been cancelled by money, haven't they? They've been cancelled by capitalism. So whoever booked them to play the O2 did absolutely the right thing.' Another fan called Asha, who has been to see the group 11 times, noted: 'It's not like they're saying anything that's wrong, everything they're saying is absolutely correct. ‌ "People don't like hearing the truth.' TRNSMT cancelled Kneecap's performance at the end of May over safety concerns from Police Scotland. ‌ The police force said it has a 'proportionate and considered policing plan ' ahead of the Glasgow gig. In May, Scotland's First Minister John Swinney called for TRNSMT to cancel the performance on July 11, saying that 'organisers of TRNSMT have got to consider that issue'. O hAnnaidh was charged under the name Liam O'Hanna by the Metropolitan Police in May, over the alleged display of a Hezbollah flag at a gig, and appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on June 18. ‌ The furore led to calls from Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch for Glastonbury to cancel a performance from the Belfast rappers on June 28, which the festival organisers did not do. As well as Kneecap's sold-out gig, Billie Eilish and Kendrick Lamar are also performing in Glasgow today. Superintendent Paul Douglas of Police Scotland said: 'We are aware of a number of events and concerts due to take place in the Greater Glasgow area in the week beginning Monday July 7. 'A proportionate and considered policing plan is in place within the city and we are working with a number of stakeholders to ensure the safety of all those attending these events and where possible minimise disruption to the people of Glasgow.' The trio—Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap (Naoise Ó Cairealláin), and DJ Próvaí—were originally scheduled to headline the King Tut's stage at TRNSMT 2025, but were dropped from the line-up in May after Police Scotland raised safety concerns. (Image: Andrew Milligan/PA Wire) A Police Scotland spokesperson at the time saidA spokesperson for the force said: "Any decision on the lineup at TRNSMT is for the organisers and there was no prior consultation with Police Scotland before acts were booked. "Officers have highlighted that the potential reaction of such a large audience to this band would require a significant policing operation in order to support the delivery of a safe event. "We have also passed on information from the public around safety concerns to allow organisers to make an informed decision on the running of the festival."
