Kaytron Allen poised for big 2025 season after strong postseason showing in 2024
Here's a look at Allen heading into the 2025 season with the Nittany Lions.
2024 in review
Though his 2023 campaign fell short of expectations, Allen bounced back last year with over 1,100 rushing yards on 5.0 yards per carry, adding eight rushing touchdowns. He battled injuries throughout the middle of the season and was less than 100% for several games, but Allen peaked during Penn State's postseason run with 124 yards against Oregon in the Big Ten championship, 70 yards on just 11 carries against SMU in the first round of the College Football Playoff, 134 yards against Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl and 82 yards against Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl.
Biggest question in 2025
The biggest question entering 2025 is whether Allen can stay healthy for a full season. His physical play style and penchant for violence cause wear and tear that leaves him at less than 100%. If Penn State can keep him healthy and reduce his workload in blowouts, Allen is likely to perform better against top competition.
2025 will be a success if…
This season will be a success if Allen can generate more explosive plays. His longest run in 2024 was just 32 yards, and his yards per carry dropped slightly from his first two seasons. For Allen to truly take the next step in his development, more chunk plays could lead to a career-high in rushing yards in 2025.
2025 will be a disappointment if…
If Penn State's wide receivers aren't able to demonstrate a credible vertical threat, Allen may struggle against loaded boxes. If the Nittany Lions' passing game is unable to take the attention of Allen, it'll be hard for him to find much success as he relies on running through defenders rather than around them.
Realistic outlook for 2025
Based on Allen's steady output over the past three seasons, another 1,000-yard campaign seems likely, particularly if Penn State enjoys a deep postseason run. Without Tyler Warren competing for red-zone targets, Allen could see his touchdown total reach double digits. Sustaining his postseason form into the regular season would solidify his status as one of the nation's elite running backs.

Insider provides update to ‘complicated' T.J. Watt, Steelers contract talks
T.J. Watt's contract situation with the Steelers continues to dominate the NFL world. A hearing in the civil lawsuit against Shannon Sharpe is set for July 9
The days preceding the draft were dominated by news of a sexual assault lawsuit that had been filed against Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe. An ill-advised P.R. blitz, which included his lawyer, Lanny Davis, that Sharpe had offered at least $10 million to settle the case, fueled the coverage for multiple days. Then, things died down. Now, more than two months after the case was filed against Sharpe, he has not responded to the civil complaint. In most jurisdictions, a response is due within 30 days after service. Extensions are commonly granted among lawyers as a courtesy. The electronic database for the Clark County, Nevada civil court system shows various filings regarding the lawyer(s) who will be associated with the case. A hearing on three different motions to associate counsel is set for July 9, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. local time. The hearing originally had been set for June 30. Davis said in a press conference held two days after the filing of the case that Sharpe will file a counterclaim against the plaintiff. For now, though, there has been no formal response by Sharpe to the civil complaint. Less than a week after the case was filed, Sharpe stepped away from his employment with ESPN until the start of the NFL preseason. With the preseason looming (the Hall of Fame game happens on July 31) and the case still in its infancy, it remains to be seen whether Sharpe will indeed return by the end of the month.

NFL's No. 1 pick praises Nebraska wide receiver commit Larry Miles
Nebraska continues to make moves in the offseason, landing multiple transfers and 12 commits in the 2026 class as of the second week of July. But one of its more recent commits already turned heads back in May when he received praise from the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft. Wide receiver Larry Miles got the opportunity to train with Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward back in May. Ward is entering his rookie year with high expectations following a record-breaking year with the Miami Hurricanes. Miles not only jumped at the opportunity to train with Ward, but he also made an impression on him. The four-star wide receiver earned praise from the quarterback, who even said, "I hope I play with you one day." Miles put together a strong junior year at Jones High School in Orlando, Florida, catching 68 passes for 1,204 yards and 10 touchdowns. But to receive high praise from an NFL quarterback, let alone the number one overall pick in the NFL draft, while still in high school, does add to the excitement of what's to come from the future Husker.
