Dame Helen Mirren sends desperate plea after being targeted by scammers with fak
Dame Helen Mirren has shared a scam with her followers, revealing that her name has been used to dupe people out of money.
'SCAM ALERT!' she began in a post on social media, warning fans not to part with their hard-earned cash.
'Person(s) unknown have used my name to front a false charity, which is sending out messages from me, offering a large sum of money and asking you to respond to helenmirrencharity@gmail.com.
'THIS IS NOT ME and it is not my email address, please beware and do not respond, this is a scam,' she emphasised.
'The original message came from drogogo91@gmail.com and referred to a genuine charity Look For The Stars to claim authenticity. Please keep alert – Many thanks, Helen.'

In 2019, the actress told BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour, host Jane Garvey that she was conned out of money as she believed she was sending money in return for a mystery prize.
The star was on the show to promote her film The Good Liar, which saw her play a rich widow targeted by a conman, played by Ian McKellen. During the conversation, Helen challenged the idea that some people are too savvy to be conned.
'I was scammed. I was so embarrassed about it, and that's the terrible thing, isn't it, when you're scammed, you're so mortified that you really don't tell anyone because it's so embarrassing and humiliating,' she said
The MobLand actor revealed that she received a call while she was in the US, telling her she'd won a prize.
'They did it brilliantly, and I was suspicious. They said, 'I've got her I've got her', when I picked up the phone, they said, 'I've got her, I've got her, we're so excited to tell you you've won this prize!'
'I said, 'Have I, how?' The only caveat – why didn't I realise? – was, in order to get the prize, I had to send them money.
'And in return they would send – and they did, it wasn't like I didn't get anything – they sent these things, weird things like a 3D camera, I remember and a fake diamond tennis bracelet, just weird things'
She revealed that the jig was up after she later offered to come and meet them. More Trending
'But I was suspicious, and I said, 'Where are you phoning from, the company, where is it based?'
''We're based in New Orleans.' I said, 'Oh what address?' And they gave me an address, and I said, 'Oh that's interesting, because – and it was true – I happen to be coming to New Orleans next week, so I'll pop in and see you.'
'And they sort of went all a bit pear-shaped when I said that.'
The legendary star added: 'I was scammed, definitely.'

With the threat of losing their license looming large, an emotional Linda rushes off to the caff. While there, she bumps unto George, and the two have a surprising heart to heart about recent events. She explains that she wants to sell-up, and although he supports her plan, he also urges her to consider Elaine's feelings. Little do the pair realise, she is watching on from afar, and comes to a shocking conclusion about what they were discussing. Elaine thinks that they're plotting against her. Kneecap responds to 'legend' who streamed their Glastonbury set
The Irish rap trio played to a packed-out crowd on the West Holts stage in Glastonbury on Saturday after festival organisers had to close access to the area over fears of overcrowding. However, hours before the group was due to take the stage, the BBC announced that they would not live stream their performance and instead would upload an on-demand version later on Saturday. The BBC's decision to omit Kneecap's performance from its live coverage prompted one festival goer to take matters into her own hands, as Helen Wilson live-streamed the set in its entirety on TikTok. Award-winning authors' fury at celebrities who don't write their own kids' books
Impossible Creatures author Katherine Rundell has criticised the 'high percentage' of children's books published under famous names that could have been ghost-written Katherine Rundell, the acclaimed author of Impossible Creatures, has criticised celebrities who use ghost-writers for not taking "sufficient care" with the children's books published under their names. The novelist, who clinched the Waterstones Book Of The Year title in 2023, suggested that "a high percentage" of celebrity-published books might be ghost-written, estimating the figure to be just shy of 50%. Speaking to BBC Radio 4's This Cultural Life, she expressed her frustration: "I think the thing that frustrates me most would be where people are publishing books that they have not themselves written". She continued, highlighting the lack of personal touch in such works: "Because, of course, there are many great comedians who could write great children's fiction, I'm sure, but if you are creating a children's book in the same way you would create a perfume or a series of steak knives, you are not giving it sufficient care." Rundell added her thoughts on the importance of authenticity in children's literature: "I think ghost-writing makes perfect sense for memoir, for non-fiction, but for fiction, when a child opens a story they should be entering a pact with you, that you will have thought of them and what they need, their desires, their drive." She warned of the potential negative impact of ghost-written books on young readers: "And if you break that pact, and if you flood the market with books that break that pact, you risk turning children off books." Rundell concluded with a stark message about the importance of genuine storytelling: "And to turn children off books is to turn them off the great history of ideas. Books are the place we have gone to set down our most bold and ambitious thought and to risk turning children off that, I think, is a stupidity for which we shouldn't be forgiven." When queried on the proportion of children's books that are ghost-written, she estimated: "I don't know. A high percentage, probably less than half, but not that much less." Rundell achieved recognition winning the Costa Children's Book Award in 2017 for her novel The Explorer. She then scooped up the Blue Peter Best Story Award in 2014 for her book Rooftoppers. Her literary contributions to children's fiction also encompass titles such as One Christmas Wish (2017) and Skysteppers (2021).
