Kuwait welcomes the UN resolution on strengthening cooperation with the GCC
KUWAIT CITY, June 19: The State of Kuwait on Wednesday welcomed the adoption of a historic United Nations General Assembly resolution aimed at enhancing cooperation between the United Nations and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
The resolution, titled 'Cooperation between the United Nations and the Gulf Cooperation Council', was submitted by Kuwait—currently holding the presidency of the GCC — on behalf of all member states through its Permanent Mission to the UN in New York. It was adopted by consensus among UN member states, marking the first such resolution to formalize cooperation between the two entities.
In a statement, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the resolution reflects the depth of historical cooperation between the UN and the GCC, aligning with Article 52 of the UN Charter, which encourages partnerships with regional organizations to support international peace and security.
The Ministry affirmed that the resolution aims to institutionalize the relationship between the secretariats of the UN and GCC by initiating annual high-level strategic meetings, enhancing joint capabilities in conflict prevention, mediation, early warning, and crisis management, and coordinating responses to emerging security challenges.
Kuwait expressed pride in presenting what it described as a 'historic resolution' on behalf of fellow GCC member states and reaffirmed its commitment to advancing multilateral cooperation and building effective global partnerships. The Ministry highlighted Kuwait's dedication to contributing constructively to both regional and international peace and stability.
Meanwhile, GCC Secretary General Jassim Al-Budaiwi also praised the adoption of the resolution, underscoring its importance as a new milestone in regional and global cooperation. He lauded Kuwait's diplomatic efforts, particularly through its UN mission, and emphasized that the resolution sets the foundation for a stronger strategic partnership between the GCC and the UN.
Al-Budaiwi noted that this resolution paves the way for collaborative initiatives and expanded joint efforts, aligning with the GCC's commitment to openness and constructive engagement with international institutions.
He concluded by emphasizing that the move reflects the spirit of Gulf integration and demonstrates the council's proactive approach to working with global partners in addressing regional and international challenges.

Kuwait hosts UN event urging protection for aid workers in Gaza
Experts warn of escalating attacks on workers in Gaza, call for global efforts to deliver critical assistance GENEVA: Kuwait's permanent mission to the United Nations in Geneva held a high-level event Thursday spotlighting the urgent need to protect humanitarian workers and ensure aid delivery in conflict zones, especially Gaza. The event, titled 'Humanitarian Access and Protection of Humanitarian Workers: A Pillar for Advancing Human Rights in Conflicts', was part of the 59th session of the UN Human Rights Council. It drew broad participation from diplomats, UN officials, humanitarian experts, and NGO representatives. Kuwait's Ambassador to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Nasser Al-Hain, said the event reflects Kuwait's 'deep-rooted humanitarian approach and commitment to supporting multilateral humanitarian work.' 'Protecting humanitarian workers and ensuring aid reaches those in need are ethical and legal priorities the international community must uphold,' Al-Hain said in a statement to KUNA. He emphasized Kuwait's role as a hub for humanitarian work and its belief in diplomacy as a tool for peace and justice. New judicial fees move to take effect early July
KUWAIT CITY, June 28: Minister of Justice Counselor Nasser Al-Sumait has issued a decision to introduce new judicial fees for the Experts Department, covering six categories based on the time and effort required to carry out assignments, reports Al-Seyassah daily. The decision sets a fee of KD 30 for inspection sessions and KD 20 for expert attendance at court sessions. These fees will be increased by 100 percent in cases where the value of the report's subject exceeds KD 500,000. The decision will come into effect in early July. Article 1 of the decision outlines the following judicial fees for expert services: KD 10 for each session held by the expert at the headquarters of the General Experts Department or any of its branches to carry out the assignment. KD 5 for each procedural session held by the expert without requiring the presence of the parties. KD 30 for inspection sessions conducted at the dispute site or for sessions held to review documents outside the department's headquarters. KD 20 for the expert's appearance in court to discuss the report. KD 15 for travel expenses. KD 20 for filing the report. Article 2 - The fees outlined in Article 1, clauses A, B, C, and D will vary based on the number of experts assigned to the committee. These fees shall be doubled (100%) in cases where the value of the report's findings exceeds KD 500,000. Article 4 - If an assignment requires specialized expertise from outside the General Department of Experts, the matter shall be referred to the court, which will determine the appropriate fees and expenses. The decision also sets fees for assignments based on the type of property or case as follows: Category A - KD 100 for assignments related to private residences or residential units located in private, model, investment, chalet, or commercial areas. Category B - KD 250 for assignments related to residential or commercial complexes. Category C - KD 200 for assignments related to industrial plots, agricultural plots, or areas designated for investment housing or commercial use. Article 6 of the decision repeals Resolution No. 232/2017. Article 7 mandates the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice to implement this resolution, effective July 1.
