The travel industry is defined by reinvention, so it's no surprise that the trailblazing hospitality executive Neil Jacobs has already moved onto his next act.
For more than a decade, Jacobs helped redefine what luxury travel could (and should) look like as CEO of Six Senses: sustainable, soulful and grounded in place. Now, Jacobs is launching Wild Origins, a purpose-driven advisory collective and creative studio that builds on the philosophies he championed at Six Senses and pushes them even further.
Jacobs says the new venture is rooted in the same values that have guided his career—doing work that feels meaningful. 'There are people out there who really care about this stuff who are not tree huggers and who still want to do business—but they want to do business in a better way,' he told me in an interview. 'Whatever I do, the wellness and the hospitality and the sustainability piece will show up in one form or another. I can't go into anything that doesn't reflect my own personal position.'
It's a timely move. As travelers seek out more than just high-thread-count sheets and infinity pools, Jacobs believes the future lies in transformational experiences with depth and value. 'Trends come and go,' he says. 'It's important to focus on the fundamentals—the way you move, the way you sleep, how you connect. It's about being conscious and mindful.'
That instinct is something industry insiders have long pointed to as one of Jacobs' superpowers. Craig Cogut is the CEO of Pegasus Capital Advisors, which owned Six Senses before it was sold to IHG. Cogut told me in an interview that the partnership between Pegasus and Jacobs was 'love at first sight, which deepened.'
'Neil's ability to see 10, 20 years ahead is special,' says Cogut. 'And in this age of technology, people still really matter in this business, and recruiting the right people with taste, style and sensibility can't be programmed. You have to have that. And Neil has it, and he has an ability to attract people who reinforce that.'
When Jacobs joined Six Senses in 2012, the brand was best known for barefoot luxury in remote corners of Southeast Asia. Under his leadership, Six Senses became a global player—expanding from eight to 26 properties, with more than 30 currently in development. He broadened the brand's reach across Europe, the Middle East and the Americas. He also introduced urban locations and created private residences.
What remained constant? Jacobs' belief that luxury doesn't have to be wasteful, wellness isn't limited to the spa, experiences should have a strong sense of place and design should always reflect its environment. For instance, when Jacobs decided that Six Senses should expand into Portugal's Douro Valley, the company took over an Asian-style hotel. Under Jacobs' direction, the out-of-place Buddhas were gone; in their place were tiles sourced from local markets. 'You can't have a hotel in Portugal that feels like it could be in Bali,' he says. 'It needs to reflect where it is.'
Before Six Senses, Jacobs spent 14 years at Four Seasons, overseeing operations in Asia and helping the brand broaden its wellness focus. Later, as president of Starwood Capital Group, he helped another hospitality innovator—Barry Sternlicht—launch 1 Hotels and Baccarat Hotels. That arc gave Jacobs a unique vantage point: He's equally fluent in both operations and innovation. Wild Origins: A New Platform For Change
Wild Origins is already taking shape with a series of high-profile collaborations. Jacobs is working as an advisor with Cain, a London- and New York-based private equity group, on luxury hospitality and well-being opportunities. He's also teaming up with the Bali-based hospitality company, Potato Head, to advise on the brand's strategic growth and expansion.
In Saudi Arabia, Jacobs is helping shape the country's tourism pipeline through two high-impact roles. He serves on the board of directors for the upcoming Riyadh School of Tourism and Hospitality in Qiddiya, which aims to train the next generation of travel leaders. 'It's going to have 15,000 to 20,000 students—not all physical, a lot of it online,' he says. 'We've already hired the dean, a tremendous educator from Lausanne, and we're bringing in faculty now. It's super exciting to be part of it.'
Jacobs is also on the advisory board of TOURISE, a new global platform steering the future of tourism in Saudi Arabia. 'If you go to Saudi today, the mood is completely different to what it was five years ago,' he says. 'Young Saudis are excited about their future. They want to work, they want to contribute. It's a beautiful country, and I do believe that what they're building will succeed and it will become a global destination. It's just going to take a while.'
Jacobs' impact on the travel industry at large hasn't gone unnoticed. Chris Norton, CEO of Equinox Hotels and a former colleague of Jacobs at Four Seasons, praised his approach to leadership. 'Neil Jacobs has always shown that being principled and kind isn't a weakness, but a foundation for lasting success. In a world that often claims 'good guys can't win,' Neil proves that integrity, generosity and resilience are the real drivers of achievement—both in life and in business,' Norton told me in an interview. 'As he embarks on his new company, he stands as a reminder that the long game belongs to those who lead with character and vision.'

'I am absolutely thrilled to see Neil embark on his next chapter, as this new venture will undoubtedly allow another brand to flourish under his guidance.' Doing the Work That Matters
While peers celebrate his vision and leadership, Jacobs isn't focused on accolades or legacy. He's more interested in doing the work that matters. 'For me, it's about people and the development of people and culture,' he says. That includes sustainability initiatives that are doing something good for the community. "A, it's the right thing to do. But B, it's also the right commercial thing to do. It's where the two intersect, and it's a win-win.'
His people-first approach fuels everything from team building to creative breakthroughs. That's especially true when it comes to innovation. 'People think you wake up in the middle of the night with a great idea—but that only happens occasionally,' he says. 'Innovation is a science as much as it's an art. There's a structured way to create an innovative environment. It doesn't just happen—you need people who are focused on it.'
Jacobs also believes the best hospitality concepts are grounded in strong storytelling and clear intent—something he sees in brands like his new client, Potato Head. 'It doesn't have to be expensive,' he says. 'It just needs that kind of thinking around it and a structured approach.'
That clarity of thinking extends beyond business. Jacobs works with a coach—formerly a professional athlete—who has shaped his thinking on leadership and life. 'We think our feelings are fixed, but really they're just driven by what we're thinking about at any one moment,' he says. 'So if you're mindful of your thinking, everything else ought to fall into place.'
This is a mindset that informs how Jacobs leads, how he innovates and how he navigates the highs and lows. 'Life is like an elevator. ,' he says. 'Everyone wants to be in the penthouse, but every now and again you end up in the basement. And that's okay—wherever you are at any one moment is probably the place that you're intended to be. Relax. Enjoy the floor. You'll go back up when you least expect it, and you'll go down. You're going to be fine.' Collectively, the three main ways a personal loan can benefit your credit account for 75 percent of your score. Build a positive repayment history: When you take out a loan, most lenders report your payment activity to the three major credit bureaus: Experian, TransUnion and Equifax. On-time payments have a positive impact on your credit, as payment history accounts for 35 percent of your FICO Score. Add to your credit mix: Having different types of credit accounts in good standing shows lenders that you can manage various debts responsibly. By adding a personal loan to your report, you're contributing to the diversification of your credit mix, which makes up 10 percent of your score. Reduce your credit utilization ratio: If used to consolidate revolving debt, such as credit cards and lines of credit, personal loans can reduce your credit utilization ratio. This accounts for 30 percent of your FICO Score and measures how much credit you've used relative to your available limit. Getting a personal loan may impact credit at first It's important to note that when you first get your loan your credit may take a small, temporary hit. That's because your lender will perform a hard credit check when qualifying you for the loan. And since the loan is brand new, it will lower the average age of your credit. These categories, however, make up a small portion of your score. Which personal loans can help build credit? If paid consistently, any personal loan can be a positive addition to your credit reports. Regardless of the route you go, the type of loan you take out should be good for more than just improving your credit score. Debt consolidation loans Getting a debt consolidation loan allows you to combine several debts into a single debt with one interest rate and monthly payment. The money from the loan pays off the other debts, then you make payments to the loan instead. This can help your credit in a few ways: If you pay off your credit card balances, you'll free up available credit and lower your credit utilization ratio. It could also improve your credit mix, since credit-scoring models like to see a variety of revolving debt and installment loans. Having one payment instead of many can be more manageable and help you avoid missing payments. Consolidating your debt only makes sense if you're offered a lower interest rate on your new loan than what you paid on your previous debts. Otherwise, you risk paying more in interest accrual over the life of the loan. To qualify for the best debt consolidation loan rates, you or a cosigner will need to have a solid credit score — typically 740 or higher — and have a stable source of income. Bankrate tip Use a debt consolidation calculator to see how much you can save with a consolidation loan and determine if it's the best option for your financial goals. Credit-builder loans Unlike traditional personal loans that provide funding upfront, a credit-builder loan requires you to make fixed monthly payments over a set period, usually six to 24 months, before you receive the funds. Once the loan is paid in full, with interest, you'll receive the funds to use however you see fit. A few good-use examples include: Building an emergency fund. Paying down other debts. Contributing to retirement. Investing. Making a down payment on a home. Making a large purchase. The primary goal of these loans is not to get access to the money you need right away. Instead, it's to establish a positive payment history that builds your credit score, since those payments are reported to the credit bureaus. 'You should consider a credit-builder loan if you have a thin or spotty credit history and are hoping to improve your overall financial health,' Pentis says, who recommends having a clear and consistent budget before borrowing to ensure you can make your payments. Risks of using loans to build credit Although applying for a personal loan can help you build credit, this also translates to more debt in your portfolio. Potentially high rates: Personal loan rates range from just below 6 percent to 35.99 percent. If you have a FICO score below 670, a personal loan may have more drawbacks than benefits. That's because bad credit loans tend to come with much higher interest rates and fees compared to other loans, which can make repayment more difficult. Initial hard inquiry: When you apply for a personal loan — or nearly any form of credit — you'll get what's known as a hard inquiry on your credit report. Hard inquiries can cause your score to drop by a few points, but the effect is temporary, and it's generally easy to counter with on-time payments. Risk of credit damage: Falling behind on payments and defaulting on the loan could cause significant harm to your credit file. Just as a positive payment history can build your credit, missing payments can cause your score to fall. Missed payments can impact your credit score for up to seven years. More debt: Depending on your financial situation, taking out a loan, and in turn increasing the amount of debt you owe, can make it more difficult to achieve your financial goals, like saving for a home or retirement. Carefully evaluate your situation before committing to new debt. Remember, you shouldn't take out a loan if it will cause financial hardship. Alternatives to personal loans to help build credit If a personal loan isn't the best way for you to build credit, these alternative methods — when used responsibly — can help boost your score over time. Secured card Secured cards require you to put down a deposit in a separate account, which acts as your credit limit. This can make the card easier to qualify for than other debts. When used responsibly, a secured credit card helps build credit in a way that's similar to a personal loan — with a positive payment history, low credit utilization ratio and diverse credit mix. If you fail to repay the balance as agreed, however, the lender or issuer can seize your deposit to recoup its losses, and your credit score will sustain damage. There are other consequences to consider, according to Kelton. 'If you spend more than your credit limit, the issuer may decline future transactions, charge a fee and withhold your deposit,' she says. 'It's also best to avoid carrying a balance on the card so you don't accrue interest.' Joint accounts Cosigning a loan or becoming an authorized user on a credit card can help build your credit, since both you and the account holder will benefit from a positive payment history. 'The account shows up on your credit report, along with the payment history and credit utilization ratio,' says Kelton. 'You're able to use the card to make purchases, but the primary account holder is responsible for payments.' Even if you aren't responsible for payments, Kelton warns that the account holder's behavior will affect your score. If they pay late or rack up a large balance, that will also be reflected on your credit. Cosigning has additional serious implications because you're legally responsible for repayment of the loan if the primary borrower falls behind. That means you'll take a credit hit and be financially responsible for repayment. Alternate payment histories Some services, like Experian Boost, allow you to get credit for paying everyday bills, such as streaming services, monthly subscriptions and utilities, which typically aren't reported to the credit bureaus. You can also ask your landlord to report your rent payments to improve your score. Buy now, pay later Buy now, pay later allows you to break purchases up into smaller payments over time without credit score requirements and, in the past, didn't affect credit scores. 'Buy now, pay later historically hasn't had much of an impact on credit, but that's changing,' Kelton says, noting that some BNPL lenders are starting to report to credit bureaus. 'Soon, you may be able to build credit by using BNPL responsibly, and it's often easier to qualify for than other loan or credit types.' However, Kelton warns not to use them for smaller purchases you can't afford. 'If you're not able to cover a relatively small purchase all at once, it simply may not fit in your budget right now.' America's busiest airports are quietly becoming unexpected food destinations — and smart travelers know just where to grab the best bite before takeoff. Airport lounges have elevated their food offerings even as they remain pricey and require memberships or a certain credit card or frequent-flier status. For the average traveler, regular airport restaurants are still costly, partly due to real estate costs and the challenge of getting staff and ingredients through security, Gary Leff, a Texas-based travel industry expert, told Fox News Digital. They operate in tight spaces and are run by a single concession operator, leading to an "incredible sameness," Leff added. "It's not simple to run a restaurant inside an airport," noting it can be a "recipe for bad food." There is one exception, he said. That would be Tortas Frontera, a Mexican restaurant at Chicago O'Hare International Airport in Illinois. "I even choose to connect through Chicago rather than another hub sometimes for it," Leff said. Tortas Frontera by Rick Bayless, the well-known chef, is often named online as a favorite of frequent flyers; one Reddit user raved it offered the "best airport food I've ever had." Other favorites named include O'Hare's Publican Tavern, Wicker Park and Gold Coast Dogs. And while Leff thinks One Flew South, a southern and sushi fusion restaurant at Georgia's Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), is "overrated," many tout that as their favorite flying pit stop. "The most outstanding meal I have EVER had in an airport!" one woman wrote in a recent Yelp review. ATL, which also houses the beloved Chicken and Beer, owned by rapper Ludacris, and the soul food institution Paschal's, won first place in the 2025 Food & Wine Global Tastemakers Awards for U.S. airport dining. Another southern hub with sought-after food is Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) in Texas. "Dallas-Fort Worth is a massive airport with numerous dining options," said Melanie Musson, an insurance expert from Montana who frequently travels with her husband and six kids. "They have several Texas barbecue options, so even when you're just stopping for a layover, you can get a taste of Texas." Justin Goldsberry, a business owner and seasoned traveler from New Jersey, also said he loves traveling through DFW for its barbecue and seafood. "Since seafood is my favorite, I'm always on the lookout," Goldsberry said. "Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen delivers every time." Musson's other favorite place to stop is Root Down at Denver International Airport (DEN) in Colorado, where she and her family have been going for years. "But Root Down isn't the only great eating establishment at DEN," Musson said. "It offers a wide array of chain restaurants and several local options." Reddit users also say they appreciate the variety at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) in California. "SFO is a dream for anyone who loves Asian food," Maricel Gentile, owner of Maricel's Kitchen in New Jersey, told Fox News Digital. Gentile frequently travels for culinary events and often gets a bowl of udon or miso soup from Japanese restaurant Wakaba. "It's simple, warm and soulful, perfect before a long flight," Gentile said. After SFO and her hometown Newark Liberty International Airport, Gentile said she enjoys eating at Seattle–Tacoma International Airport (SEA) in Washington. SEA is home to Floret, a vegetarian spot that one recent Yelp reviewer said was "hands down … the best/cutest restaurant" she ever visited in an airport, and Beecher's Handmade Cheese, another favorite on the Reddit channels. Gentile also recommended the fried chicken at The Country Cat at Oregon's Portland International Airport (PDX). Employees at travel site The Points Guy also recommended PDX as well as Salt Lake City International Airport in Utah, according to its managing editor, Clint Henderson, in part because they're reasonable. Both prohibit restaurants and shops from charging more than they would outside the airport. Henderson thinks dining at New York's LaGuardia Airport has improved lately. "LaGuardia's Delta Terminal C is now full of some of my favorite restaurants, including Calista Taverna, Prime, Soleil Brasserie, Chuko Ramen and, of course, Bubby's," he told Fox News Digital. "Airports have come a long, long way over the past few years with airports investing heavily in food and beverage offerings."
