
Little Bro Noodles brings pork noodles, claypot dry ‘lou shu fun' and Hakka mee to the busy SS2 neighbourhood
Along the busy Jalan SS2/24, there's a double row of shophouses that everyone knows for the iconic electrical shop, ESH Electrical or what long timers probably know it better as Eng Seng Hing, at one corner.
For many years, these shophouses housed only a few eateries, long standing ones like Nyonya Restaurant and Village Chicken Restaurant but now it's a different scene as you need only to walk a few steps to find another eatery or even bakery here.
A highlight of the pork noodles is the multi-layered intestine (left) and one can wait and snack on their Signature Fried Pork Balls (right).
One of the latest is Little Bro Noodles, a family run shop, previously from PJ Old Town's Ming Yang Kopitiam, serving steaming bowls of pork noodles.
With so many pork noodles available now, choosing where to eat it is more about your preference and in some cases, convenience too.
This pork noodle aces with its ingredients, from the minced pork, pork loin, liver, intestine and kidney (an add-on for RM5), all fresh and perfectly cooked with care.
Claypot Dry Lou Shu Fun is not too saucy and filled with goodies similar to what's served with their pork noodles.
A big treat is the pork intestine where the cut reveals tight layers inside, requiring lots of work that many stalls don't bother with, preferring to serve pitifully thin, hollow intestines.
With those ingredients, the broth takes a step back to become the supporting player instead. It has a lighter profile but still tastes homey without any artificial additives even though it's a tad darker in colour.
The basic bowl for a small portion is RM12.50, while a big portion is RM13.50.
Fervent fans of pork noodles know the drill.....it can take some time to get your piping hot bowl of goodness.
Minced Meat Hakka Mee is like a comforting hug from a loved one.
Even the Claypot Dry Lou Shu Fan (RM13.90 for small, RM14.90 for big) also takes time to cook, where you get a less saucier version but more like a dry pork noodles with the same toppings, mixed with an egg to give it a slight caramelisation for the noodles.
With a young team in place, managing expectations and fiery tempers arising from impatient diners is important, hence they will forewarn you with the estimated waiting time during peak hours. This can go up to 45 minutes or even 1 hour.
It's a pain indeed but that's what you have to put up with for a freshly cooked bowl of pork noodles or piping hot claypot noodles.
For a tangy, spicy sauce, try combining the pickled green chillies, chilli sauce and the green sauce probably similar to what is served with 'pan mee'.
Rather than leave you hanging, they helpfully suggest ordering a quicker turnaround time food item—their Minced Meat Hakka Mee (RM10.50 for small, RM11.50 for big), a special version with kuey teow rather than the usual egg noodles, paired with a combination of chilli sauces, pickled green chillies and spring onions.
The Hakka Mee has a simple flavour with that sweet minced pork, accentuated by that tangy combined sauce, reminiscent of what's served at pan mee stalls.
With the flat. slightly broader rice noodles, it's a smoother texture versus the springy egg noodles, making it pretty special on its own.

Another way to make the wait tolerable is to order various tidbits to keep you happy.
Nibble on Little Bro's Signature Fried Pork Balls (five pieces for RM9) essentially juicy pops of minced pork with a savoury hint of nam yue, or have a crunchy time with the Homemade Crispy Fried Wontons (five pieces for RM5 with a juicy pork filling.
Even a Lurpak Butter Kaya Hainan Toast (RM4.20) dipped in bright orange Kampung Half Boiled Eggs (RM3.90) is the ideal appetiser before the main event arrives.
The shop is decorated simply with various handwritten Chinese signs (left) and one can find the family-run restaurant in busy SS2 (right).
For a less decadent butter, there's also the conventional Kaya Hainan Toast for RM3.
Dining here with so many other eateries a few steps away is also fun, as one can grab a matcha drink from Ono Specialty Coffee & Matcha or indulge in a matcha tiramisu, pick up a loaf of bread from Kona Bakehouse and even buy fresh kampung eggs from one of the sundry shops there.

Malaysia's Navy executes landmark missile and torpedo firings, strengthens defence posture in South China Sea, says defence minister
KOTA KINABALU, July 29 — The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) today conducted the firing of several Exocet missiles and a Black Shark torpedo in TAMING SARI 23/25 exercise in the South China Sea to raise the country's maritime defence readiness. Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the exercise involved the firing of Exocet MM40 missiles by KD Lekiu and KD Lekir, as well as the firing of Exocet SM39 missiles in coordination from the submarine KD Tunku Abdul Rahman. He said the exercise also made history as it involved submarine KD Tun Razak firing a Black Shark torpedo in a war configuration for the first time. 'For the Exocet missile, the firing was carried out at a distance of more than 30 kilometres while for the Black Shark torpedo, it was at a distance of less than 10 kilometres. The exercise is necessary for us to improve the readiness and capabilities of our armed forces. 'It aims to ensure that at all times, in any situation, our armed forces are always competent in defending the country,' he said at a press conference after witnessing the exercise here today. Also present were Ministry of Defence secretary-general Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali, Royal Malaysian Navy chief Admiral Tan Sri Zulhelmy Ithnain, Chief of Staff of the Malaysian Armed Forces Headquarters Left Gen Datuk Azhan Md Othman and other RMN senior officers. He said the exercise also aimed to assess the current status of the country's defence assets, especially from RMN, as some of them were old, but were still at an optimal level to achieve the national defence objectives. 'So far, all assets are functioning well but this does not mean that we do not have long-term plans. We are aware of the condition of the aged assets. All our services are undergoing a modernisation process under the future force policy.' 'We need to understand the importance of readiness. JULY 29 — The Quran says: 'O believers, let not any people ridicule other people, for they may be better than them.' (Surah al-Hujurat, verse 11) The verse clearly warns the believers not to ridicule or mock others — 'la yaskhar'. The word 'yaskhar' comes from the root word 'sakhara'. According to Tafsir al-Mizan (exegesis of the Quran) the word 'sakhara' is often translated as mocking — that is, to say something which degrades someone and puts him or her down. It could be verbal or a subtle indication or could even be imitation. The aim is to ridicule and make others laugh at the person. From comfort food to café chic: The rise of ‘ochazuke' across the Klang Valley
COMMENTARY, July 29 – It is a truth universally acknowledged that café culture in Kuala Lumpur rarely stands still. There's always something new to sip or savour, whether it's artisanal matcha or the umpteenth variation on croissants (cronuts, cruffins, cragels, crookies... and who knows what's next?). Yet amid the steady churn of trends, a quieter dish has begun to surface – ochazuke, the Japanese comfort classic of steamed rice topped with savouries and finished with a pour of hot tea or broth. I began noticing it as a kind of culinary murmur. Ochazuke Salmon Yaki Onigiri at Yaki Soul. — Picture from Yaki Soul At Shan Mu in Taman Connaught, the salmon ochazuke arrived in a minimalist bowl: the cooked rice is topped with poached salmon, bonito flakes, seaweed, a halved soft-boiled egg and ikura (cured salmon roe). Our server poured some Japanese sencha over it and you have a dish even folks who don't love tea – or rice, for that matter – would appreciate. A 20-minute drive away in Maluri, I had enjoyed a fusion style poké bowl ochazuke at Hello Summer. It was an unrestrained kaleidoscope of ingredients: cubes of salmon, tuna, cucumber, sweetcorn and tomato atop rice. In Japan, ochazuke literally translates to 'tea over rice,' and its origins go back to the Edo period. Workers with little time would douse their bowls of rice with hot tea or dashi for a fast, filling meal. Over the years, it shifted in form: from a humble household staple to instant packets in supermarket aisles and, more recently, a refined palate cleanser in izakayas (such as the Ochazuke Salmon Yaki Onigiri at Yaki Soul in Bukit Bintang). Its appeal lies in simplicity. At its core, ochazuke is just rice, toppings – perhaps grilled fish, umeboshi (Japanese pickled plum), toasted sesame, or crisp seaweed – and a liquid base, whether green tea, roasted genmaicha, or savoury broth. But as I discovered wandering from café to café, and restaurant to restaurant across Klang Valley, its versatility is why ochazuke has become a trending menu item. For one, it's a feast for the eyes: a bowl of ochazuke seems almost designed for the Instagram age. Consider the Niku Ochazuke at Fukuniku in Bangsar South: a perfectly seared hanbagu patty balanced on rice, the deep umami aroma of genmaicha rising as tea cascades over the dish. Beautiful. KL's cafés also thrive on cross-cultural creativity, and ochazuke offers a malleable foundation. At Alluring Café & Dining in Taman Bukit Cheras, the cheekily named Porkyzuke features handmade pork balls, lard, baby corn and edamame in a shoyu broth. As more diners seek cleaner, restorative fare, ochazuke feels almost tailor-made for this moment. Towzen, a vegan-friendly spot in Bukit Damansara, serves a vegetarian version brimming with tofu, umeboshi, kailan, bamboo shoots, rice crackers and wasabi flavoured sesame. There's also something profoundly calming about the act itself – gently pouring hot tea over rice, pausing as the steam rises. The experience brings to mind the mindful eating practices described by Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh: 'We tend to eat a little more slowly, to allow us to really savor every mouthful... to really slow down and encounter the food, without rushing to swallow. When we can do this, we have a chance to touch peace and freedom right in the present moment.' Each bite becomes a small, deliberate act, a momentary retreat from the city's relentless pace. Ochazuke's growing popularity across cafés in KL speaks to a broader shift in dining preferences. Patrons no longer crave only photogenic food; they seek meals that offer both nourishment and a sense of connection. A bowl of ochazuke does both, carrying centuries of Japanese tradition while leaving ample room for contemporary reinterpretation. What draws us to ochazuke is not just its flavour or visual appeal, but how it might just be the ultimate comfort food especially in times of uncertainty. Who wouldn't want a warm embrace in the form of one delicious spoonful after another? Slowly, of course.
