2,200 'Ladki Bahin' Scheme Beneficiaries Found To Be Maharashtra Government Employees

Maharashtra Minister Aditi Tatkare has said that more than 2,200 beneficiaries of the Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin Yojana were found to be government employees during scrutiny.
In a post on X on Friday, Ms Tatkare said verification of beneficiaries will be a regular process.
'After scrutinising nearly 2 lakh applications, 2,289 government employees were found to be the beneficiaries of the Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin Yojana. After realising this, such beneficiaries are not being given the benefit of the scheme,' the Women and Child Development Minister said.

Ms Tatkare said the government is committed to ensuring that only eligible beneficiaries receive the benefits of the Ladki Bahin Yojana and will continue to scrutinise applications for this.
Ahead of the November 2024 Maharashtra assembly polls, the Mahayuti government in the state launched the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana in August last year, under which eligible women in the age group of 21-65 years are entitled to a monthly assistance of Rs 1,500. Government employees are, however, not eligible for the scheme.
Mahayuti leaders have attributed the resounding success of the ruling alliance in the assembly polls to the Ladki Bahin scheme, but have also admitted that it has put severe strain on the state exchequer.

Narayana vows safe drinking water across all civic bodies
Vijayawada: Municipal administration and urban development minister P Narayana said the state government is determined to provide safe drinking water to households across all municipalities. Addressing the media after a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at CM camp office on Saturday, the minister stated that tenders have been invited for laying drinking water pipelines to cover 85 per cent of households, with support from the AMRUT scheme. He said Rs 5,350 crore, sanctioned by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, will be used for completing both drinking water and drainage projects. Blaming the previous YSRCP government for lapses in securing Central funds due to failure in releasing the state's share, Narayana stressed the new government's commitment to infrastructure development. On the solid waste issue, the minister said Andhra Pradesh generates 8,000 tonnes of waste daily. While waste-to-energy plants are already operational in Guntur and Visakhapatnam, six new plants are planned in Rajahmundry, Nellore, Kadapa, Kurnool, Vijayawada, and Tirupati. Once operational, they can convert up to 7,500 tonnes of garbage into power. An allocation of Rs 225 crore has been made for new garbage clearing equipment. He also said the government is working to distribute TIDCO houses by clearing Rs 140 crore in pending bank loans for the beneficiaries.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Manjhi on Sunday sought forgiveness from devotees of Lord Jagannath after three devotees were killed and over 50 others were injured after a stampede broke out near Gundicha Temple during Rath Yatra in Puri. He also tendered an apology on behalf of his government for the incident and pledged strict action against those responsible for the lapses in crowd control and security arrangements. 'I and my government seek forgiveness from all Jagannath devotees. Administrative Probe Ordered Into Puri Tragedy Majhi also chaired a meeting with his deputies to asses the situation and ordered a full-fledged administrative inquiry to determine the cause and accountability of the incident. The investigation will be led by the Chairman of the Development Commissioner. In a major administrative shake-up, the Puri District Collector and Superintendent of Police (SP) have been transferred. Chanchal Rana has been appointed as the new District Collector of Puri, while senior officer Pinak Mishra has been named the new SP. In addition, disciplinary action has been taken against other officials for alleged dereliction of duty. DCP Bishnu Pati and Commandant Ajay Padhi have been suspended following preliminary findings of negligence in managing the crowd and ensuring safety. Negligence And Lapse Somewhere, Says Law Minister Law Minister Harichandan has described the incident as 'extremely unfortunate" and said that The rituals were proceeding smoothly until the Pahandi Bije. Some devotees had sat down near the area as the pahandi was delayed. When the gates were opened, the crowd's eagerness intensified, leading to a sudden surge and stampede-like situation. What Happened In Puri? The stampede took place in front of the chariot of Lord Jagannath, Nandighosh, when it reached the Gundicha Temple around 4-5 am on Sunday, Puri District Collector Siddharth S Swain said as quoted by news agency PTI. Chaos ensued after two trucks carrying materials for rituals reportedly entered the crowded spot near the chariots of Lord Jagannath and his sibling deities, officials said. When the three chariots reached their destination, a huge crowd of devotees gathered to have darshan of the deity, which lead to the collapse of the crowd barriers. As a result, several devotees fell over each other near the wheels of the chariot. The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital, and the condition of six people is critical, he said. The deceased have been identified as Basanti Sahu from Bolagarh of Khorda district, Premakanti Mohanty, and Prabhati Das from Athantara village under Balianta block. The bodies have been sent for postmortem and an investigation is underway. Political leaders across parties and civil society members have urged the government to conduct a transparent inquiry and ensure such lapses do not recur. Five arrested in Bangladesh for raping Hindu woman, circulating video; MEA urges protection of minorities
Bangladesh police arrest accused for raping Hindu woman (Image credits: ANI) Police in Bangladesh have arrested five individuals in connection with the rape of a Hindu woman and the circulation of a video of the victim on social media. The incident took place in Ramchadrapur Panchkitta village under Muradnagar police station in Comilla district on Thursday. According to a police statement reported by ANI, the main accused, 36-year-old Fajr Ali, was caught by local residents while allegedly raping the wife of an expatriate from the same village. He was beaten by the villagers but managed to flee the scene. "Some people present at the scene immediately recorded a video of the victim and spread it on social media," the statement quoted by ANI added. The disturbing footage, which went viral, shows the victim naked and pleading for her dignity. A case has been registered at Muradnagar Police Station. Authorities have arrested Fajr Ali along with four others who allegedly recorded and circulated the video. Police confirmed that legal proceedings are underway against all five accused. The incident comes amid growing concern over violence against religious minorities and women in Bangladesh. On May 31, various organisations held a human chain and protest rally in front of the national press club in Dhaka, condemning violence against minority communities. The protest was organised by Sammilita Sanatan Parishad, a minority alliance. In response to recent incidents, India's ministry of external affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a June 27 briefing that it is the responsibility of Bangladesh's interim government to ensure the safety of Hindus and other minorities. He made the remarks in the context of an attack on a Durga temple. Earlier on May 16, thousands of women's rights activists gathered in Dhaka near the Parliament building, demanding equality and dignity for women. The rally, held under the slogan 'A March of Solidarity at the Call of Women,' aimed to protest efforts to curtail women's rights in the name of religion.
