Jacob Tremblay, Russell Crowe to star in Unabomber film at Netflix
June 4 (UPI) -- Netflix is announcing the cast of Unabom, a new film about Ted Kaczynski, widely known as the Unabomber.
Jacob Tremblay (Wonder) will play Kaczynski, who was arrested in 1996 after carrying out mail bomb attacks in the United States for nearly two decades, leaving three people dead and 23 wounded.
Russell Crowe (Gladiator) portrays the Harvard professor who put Kaczynski through "controversial psychological experiments," according to the official synopsis.
"UNABOM is a story about a young man who feels increasingly disenfranchised by society and decides to take up violence as a means of revenge. We crosscut between two timelines, roughly speaking: the making of the Unabomber and the capture of the Unabomber," said Janus Metz, who directs.
Shailene Woodley's character helms the FBI manhunt, while Annabelle Wallis portrays Crow's partner.
The real-life Kaczynski died at age 81 in June 2023 while serving his prison sentence.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia alleges he was tortured in El Salvador prison
Senator Chris Van Hollen, D-MD, speaks with Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran immigrant living in Maryland and deported to El Salvador by the Trump administration, in San Salvador, El Salvador on Thursday, April 17, 2025. File photo by President Nayib Bukele/UPI | License Photo July 3 (UPI) -- Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the Maryland man who was wrongfully deported in March, alleged in court documents filed Wednesday that he was tortured in an El Salvador prison. Lawyers for Abrego Garcia filed an amended complaint in his lawsuit against the Trump administration that outlines what happened with him after he was deported to the Central American country on March 15. Abrego Garcia told his lawyers that he was subjected to severe mistreatment upon arrival at El Salvador's Terrorism Confinement Center mega prison, enduring alleged severe beatings, severe sleep deprivation, inadequate nutrition and psychological torture. "Welcome to CECOT. Whoever enters here doesn't leave," a prison official told the detainees, including Abrego Garcia, who recounted his ordeal to his lawyers. Abrego Garcia alleged that he was forced to strip and issued prison clothing while authorities kicked him in the legs with boots and hit him on the head and arms to make him change clothes faster. His head was then shaved and he was marched to a cell while he was struck by wooden batons along the way. "By the following day, plaintiff Abrego Garcia had visible bruises and lumps all over his body," the lawyers wrote in the court documents. The detainees were then allegedly forced to kneel for around nine hours overnight as guards beat anyone who fell from exhaustion. "Abrego Garcia was denied bathroom access and soiled himself," his lawyers wrote. Later, authorities separated detainees who had visible gang-related tattoos from those who did not. Still, Abrego Garcia was threatened with being sent to the cells where alleged gang members would "tear" him apart. Abrego Garcia lost 31 pounds in the first two weeks of his detention and he was eventually transferred to another prison in Santa Ana, El Salvador. The latest court documents also lay into the Trump administration for its actions since Abrego Garcia was wrongfully deported, including defiance of orders by a federal judge to bring him back to the United States until he was abruptly returned in early June. Abrego Garcia, 29, was returned to last month to face two federal charges in Tennessee related allege migrant smuggling. He is currently being held in Nashville.

Skydiving plane crashes off off N.J. runway; casualties reported
The Federal Aviation Administration said it is investigating the crash of a skydiving plane in New Jersey. File Photo by Bonnie Cash/UPI | License Photo July 2 (UPI) -- A skydiving plane with 15 people aboard went off the end of a runway in southern New Jersey on Wednesday evening, federal authorities said. A number of casualties have been reported. The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement that the Cessna 208B aircraft was departing Cross Keys Airport in Williamstown, located 52 miles southeast of Trenton, at 5:30 p.m. EDT when the incident happened. Gloucester County Emergency Management reported it as a "multi-agency MASS CASUALTY INCIDENT" on social media. "Downed Aircraft -- Please avoid the area to allow emergency vehicles the best access!" it said. Monroe Township Mayor Gregory Wolfe said in a statement that there were 14 passengers and one pilot on the plane. Fourteen occupants have been transported to either Cooper Hospital or Inspira Hospital with injuries ranging from minor to critical. The 15th occupant refused medical treatment at the scene. "At this time, there are fortunately no fatalities reported," he said. "Please keep all the victims in your thoughts and prayers during this time." Andrew Halter, with the emergency management services, told The New York Times that three people sustained critical injuries and were airlifted to the hospital. He said the aircraft had been leased to Skydive Cross Keys and had "reported engine trouble prior to the crash." Both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board said they were investigating. Skydive Cross Keys said on its website that it is "the largest skydiving center in the region" and is known "for high safety standards and a warm, friendly vibe."
