Halal auditors must uphold fairness and integrity, says Mohd Na'im
Speaking at the Malaysian Auditor Convention 2025, he warned that negligence or bias could damage the credibility of Islamic institutions.
'Fairness must be upheld without differentiating the position of applicants seeking halal certification. This is the role that needs to be fulfilled,' he said.
He also cautioned against any form of bribery or preferential treatment, emphasising that justice must guide the auditing process.
Mohd Na'im highlighted the importance of ethical conduct, urging auditors to avoid accepting gifts from companies applying for halal certification.
'Sometimes, it's not directly requested, but we make things difficult for applicants, leading them to believe auditors expect rewards. Intentions must be correct,' he added.
The minister reminded the 300 JAKIM-certified auditors to uphold ethical standards to protect the institution's reputation.
The convention, themed 'Halal Malaysia, A Catalyst for MADANI Economy,' saw the launch of the Halal Auditor Guidelines, a key reference for auditors.
A special training course will also be conducted to deepen their understanding of the guidelines.
Malaysia currently has 380 halal auditors, with 202 officially recognised as competent. – Bernama

Malaysia's aim, he said, was to be an honest and trustworthy development partner in various fields, including renewable energy with Sarawak as an export hub for infrastructure, housing, education and technology. On the issue of maritime boundaries in the Sulawesi Sea, the Prime Minister said discussions were held based on international law, particularly the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, as well as the interests of both countries, Bernama reported. 'Our spirit is to safeguard each other's interests while respecting the boundaries established in accordance with international law. We will continue with that spirit so that there is no tension.' He said Malaysia and Indonesia also agreed to boost cooperation through the Trilateral Cooperative Arrangement framework to maintain peace in the Sulu Sea and Sulawesi Sea. At a dialogue session with the Association of Malaysian-Indonesian Journalists earlier, the Prime Minister said Malaysia has never adopted an aggressive stance in addressing maritime border issues with Indonesia, including the long-standing dispute in the Sulawesi Sea. He said Malaysia remains committed to the legal framework and diplomatic negotiations. 'We follow the legal path. We do not take an aggressive stance. Both sides must avoid encroaching into each other's territory.' The dispute in the Sulawesi Sea involving overlapping maritime claims between East Kalimantan and southeastern Sabah has persisted since Malaysia published a map of its maritime boundaries in 1979. According to a written reply dated July 22 on the Malaysian Parliament portal, the Foreign Ministry said that the ND6 and ND7 oil exploration blocks in the Sulawesi Sea fall within Malaysian sovereign territory under international law. The ministry said Malaysia's stance was based on international legal principles, including the 2002 ruling by the International Court of Justice over nearby territorial disputes.

PM: Ceasefire highlights Asean's growing diplomatic clout
JAKARTA: The immediate and unconditional ceasefire agreed by Thailand and Cambodia reflects not only the strength of Asean's convening power, but also the constructive engagement of its partners in safeguarding regional stability, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. In his policy speech on Asean delivered at the Asean Secretariat yesterday, Anwar, who is also the current chairman of the bloc, said such an episode has served as a vital reaffirmation of the values that have served the Asean region well. 'By continuing to uphold the Asean Charter and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation, we can strengthen the peace dividend, ensuring Asean remains a community of trust, cooperation and shared prosperity for generations to come,' he said. Secretary-general of Asean Kao Kim Hourn also attended the event, reported Bernama. On Monday, Anwar succeeded in mediating an immediate and unconditional ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia after a special meeting held in Putrajaya, which has drawn international praise and put Malaysia in the global spotlight. The United States was a co-organiser of the meeting while China, as an observer, aimed to promote a peaceful resolution to the ongoing situation. Seoul welcomes ceasefire between Thailand, Cambodia
SEOUL — South Korea's Foreign Ministry on Tuesday welcomed a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia, expressing hope that the border conflict would be peacefully resolved, Yonhap News Agency reported. Since last Thursday, the deadly border clashes between the two countries have killed at least 35 soldiers, injured over 140 people, and displaced some 260,000. Supported by Malaysia and the United States, the two countries reached a truce agreement earlier in the day. 'The South Korean government highly values the diplomatic efforts by related countries, such as the United States and Malaysia, to reach a truce agreement,' the ministry said.
