Vegetable show concludes in The Nilgiris
As part of the show, vegetables that were exhibited by the Department of Horticulture for vegetable gardens were given away. Rolling prizes and prizes for vegetable kitchen garden competitions in Coonoor, Udhagamandalam and Kotagiri were also handed over. And, special prizes for the different government departments for successfully conducting the vegetable show were also presented.
Thousands of tourists thronged the park to witness the show. Present at the valedictory function was H.R. Kaushik, Additional Collector, and officials from the Nilgiris district administration.
The next summer show will be the Spices Show in Gudalur from May 9 to 11 and the Rose Show in Udhagamandalam from May 10 to 12.

The flower show that got off to a colourful start on Sunday as part of 'Saaral Vizhaa 2025' celebrations at Eco Park near Five Falls has become instant hit with thousands of tourists visiting the four-day show ending on Wednesday (July 23). The Department of Horticulture maintaining the Eco Park has brought vegetables, fruits, flowers and spices from various parts of Tamil Nadu and neighbouring States to decorate the park with cartoon characters, wild animals, birds and even a waterfall. The entrance of the park has been decorated aesthetically with an arch created with coconut, banana and palmyra tree leaves and a range of fruits. 'We have brought dahlia, carnation, gerbera, aster, cut roses, heliconia, lily, cut chrysanthemum, tuberose, bird of paradise, alstromeria, gladiolus, marigold, anthurium etc. for creating interesting characters, birds and animals. The 14-foot-long waterfall created with white flowers is close to the visitors' hearts,' said a Horticulture Department official. While the Department of Horticulture, which organises the show, expects around 20,000 visitors in four days, the number has already crossed 12,000 in the first two days. 'Apart from tourists, school children in large numbers are visiting the flower show,' said the official. Seventeen varieties of spices have been used to create a seven-foot-tall and nine-foot-wide butterfly, which attracts every visitor to take selfie with the colourful insect. Vegetables and fruits have given life to the wild animals and birds. The selfie spots in the show is heavily crowded throughout the day with tourists and the children waiting in a long queue for their turn. Apart from this visual treat, the traditional food stall treats the visitors' tastebuds with snacks and dishes prepared with millets. Since vertical garden and terrace garden concepts have become popular among the families, the Horticulture Department has dedicated a spot for them.

‘Saaral Thiruvizhaa 2025' at Courtallam from July 19 to 27
The 'Saaral Thiruvizhaa 2025' will be held at Courtallam for nine days between July 19 and 27 where cultural troupes from Tamil Nadu and other southern States will perform. Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, District Collector A.K. Kamal Kishore said nine-day-long events will provide platform for the folk artistes, cultural troupes from various southern States to exhibit their talents besides organising a range of competitions for the public and the students. The flower show will be organised by the Department of Horticulture in the 'Eco Park' near Five Falls from July 19 to 22. The tentative events of 'Saaral Thiruvizhaa 2025': July 19: Bharatanatyam, jikkaattam, naiyaandi melam, karagaattam and light music July 20: Chubby babies competition, silambam, cultural events by Kerala artistes, light music. July 21: Yoga competition, dance and drama, villupaattu, paavaikooththu and light music. July 22: Boating competitions, folk artists' performance, Toda dance by troupe from Poompaarai, Kodaikanal, cultural events from by Karnataka artistes, light music. July 23: Elocution, essay, drawing, singing and poetry competition for school students, transgenders' programme, kaniyaan kooththu, bharatanatyam, cultural events by Karnataka artistes and light music. July 24: Rangoli competition, villupaattu, mallar kambam, bharatanatyam and cultural events by Andhra Pradesh and Telengana artistes. Karnataka bans photo shoots, events, outside food in Bengaluru's Cubbon Park
The Karnataka government has introduced strict new guidelines aimed at conserving Bengaluru's iconic Cubbon Park that come into immediate updated rules prohibit a range of activities, including commercial photo shoots, outside food, and public gatherings, to preserve the park's ecology and ensure public BAN, FOOD RESTRICTIONSAll pre/post-wedding shoots, modeling sessions, baby photo shoots, short films, and Instagram reels are now banned. Only casual photography by visitors or nature documentation with official permission is allowed. Outside packaged snacks, plastic bottles, and bags are also prohibited. Violators will be fined Rs 500, with repeat offenders facing legal EVENTS WITHOUT APPROVAL The government has also cracked down on unapproved public events. Activities such as birthday parties, press conferences, yoga or cycling training, and religious functions will not be allowed without prior permission from the Department of Horticulture. Even permitted gatherings must be non-commercial and limited in ACTIVITY ZONE CREATEDTo accommodate peaceful and small-scale activities, a special 15-acre zone near the BSNL gate has been designated. Visitors can engage in reading, yoga, meditation, art, or small gatherings in this area, but any group above 20 people must seek permission from the park's Deputy STILL ALLOWEDSome activities will continue with restrictions. Walkathons, marathons, and public awareness programs may be held with official permission. Cycling is allowed between 8 am and 6 pm, but not for training purposes.
