Omkar Nagar celebrated Maharashtra Day with an array of programmes aimed at 'uniting the society and initiating collective action for societal change'. A community drumming session by Sandip Patil was the highlight of the event along with two street plays by young boys and girls of Green Army on social and environment concerns respectively.
Nishikant Jadhav, retired senior forest officer and eminent botanist, was the chief guest.
The residents of Shrinath Sainar, in Omkar Nagar, woke up on May 1 to the sounds of jumbe – an African musical instrument – led by Sandip Patil and followed by 25 people in the crowd. Patil deftly took the audience through basics of playing jimbe and entertained them with a harmony of musical ecstasy which reverberated across the residential area.
Two street plays – 'Varna maar padege' (Mend your ways or else face punishment) and "Steel ka dabba (Use steel instead of single-use plastic), commanded non-stop applause from the audience.

Children used social situations and environmental degradation to make a point about urgent community participation in making urban life happy and sustainable.
Anindya Jaipurkar, a Green Army member, spoke of the rich history and traditions of Maharashtra, but also cautioned about the degrading state of our jungles and water scarcity. He appealed to the audience to contribute towards creating urban jungles.
The Green Army also launched a 15-day campaign to make install water-saving aerators in every household of Sai Nagar.
Seeds of jungle trees were distributed among the audiences to sow and grow them into big trees.
Sudhanshu Dhote asked everyone to make eco bricks while Samar Singh Chauhan gave information about water-saving aerators. Vansh Petale, Aradhya Bhure, Aradhya Gunjekar, Mughda, Parineeta Nagpurkar, Ayan Bhalekar, Parv and Hrishikesh Rajdherkar participated in the street plays with full enthusiasm.
