IRB training centre with eco-friendly infrastructure to begin in KGF soon: ADGP Umesh Kumar

He further stated that, at a cost of nearly Rs 600 crore, infrastructure including a parade ground, playground, commandant quarters, staff quarters, school, and hospital will be constructed with full facilities. 'An eco-friendly atmosphere will be developed by increasing the water level and creating a water body,' he added. On cost-sharing, he said, 'The majority of the fund will be provided by the state government, with the remainder coming from the Union government.' The ADGP also mentioned that a letter will be forwarded requesting additional land for future expansions, including a police training centre and other developments. Inspector General of Police Sandip Patil said, 'Once the battalion is set up, there will be no need for Kolar, KGF, Chikkaballapur District, and parts of Bengaluru Rural District to depend on KSRP from Bengaluru. The IRB can be utilised for bundobust and emergency services.' Patil highlighted the strategic advantage of the location, stating, 'The site has dual road connectivity and is adjacent to the Bengaluru-Chennai Express Highway. The hillock within the 100 acres will be utilised for some other purpose.' DIG Dr Ramakrishna and other senior police officers were also present during the visit. Earlier, saplings were planted along the boundary of the 100-acre land.

PMC to start strengthening work on 60 bridges

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will soon begin strengthening work of around 60 bridges across the city, said officials on Monday. Bridge strengthening involves reinforcing existing bridges to improve their structural integrity and capacity, often to meet updated load requirements or repair damage. The PMC had already done the safety audit of the 98 bridges which include bridges on all the rivers, flyovers and railway over bridges in the city. Of the 98 bridges, strengthening work on 38 bridges has been completed in the first phase. The move comes after four people died and 51 were injured when an old narrow bridge over the River Indrayani near Talegaon in Pune district. Naval Kishore Ram, PMC commissioner, said, 'PMC has done strengthening work on 38 bridges. We will audit the remaining bridges and start strengthening work soon.' Sandip Patil, head, PMC planning department, said, 'Two years ago we did the safety audit of all the bridges. We have even carried out the strengthening work of some bridges which are essential in the first phase. We will now undertake the second phase very soon.' Back in 2017 after the collapse of another bridge on the Savitri River in Mahad, PMC had presented the report of a structural audit conducted last year of the seven bridges built during the British era. Shrikant Gaikwad, PMC engineer, said, 'The work was done at the cost of ₹12.48 crore.' The PMC had divided the bridges into two categories which include heritage bridges that were over constructed before 1952 and those built after 1952. Some bridges are very old in Pune which include Lakadi Bridge, Shivaji Bridge, Bund Garden Bride and Holkar Bridge. PMC had closed the Bund Garden bridge for traffic movement and only kept it open for pedestrians.

The animals, collectively valued at over Rs20 lakh, were found kept in cramped and cruel conditions across multiple locations between noon and 8pm. In the largest seizure, 72 bovines worth Rs17.90 lakh were found at a property on City Chowk–Kile Ark Road linked to Sameer Shaikh. Two people— Mirza Anis Beg Mirza Hameed Beg and Nadeem Khan Naim Khan— were named as accused in this case. In a separate operation near the road leading to the Cancer Hospital, police recovered six more cattle worth Rs85,000 from a dilapidated structure owned by Istiyaq Babumiya Qureshi. Another seizure was made between 5:30pm and 6pm at Chittekhana Kabristan, where two cattle valued at Rs16,000 were found tied with extremely short ropes. In a subsequent raid around 6pm to 7pm at Jalal Colony under Begumpura police station limits, six additional bovines worth Rs1.4 lakh were found in Qureshi's premises. "These animals were gathered in violation of the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act and were being stocked ahead of Eid.
