Pahang Sultan urges swift aid for Temerloh storm victims
The Sultan said only RM300 from the district disaster fund had been distributed so far, with a remaining RM700 still pending.
"I hope this can be channelled soon. The RM5,000 repair assistance should also be expedited," he said after visiting and extending aid to the affected residents on Friday (June 13).
The assistance was also delivered by Tengku Panglima Raja Brig Jen Tengku Amir Nasser Ibrahim Shah and Tengku Arif Bendahara Tengku Muhammad Iskandar Ri'ayatuddin Shah.
Al-Sultan Abdullah also expressed sympathy to those affected, noting that the disaster struck just three days after Hari Raya Aidiladha.
"It is painful not to be able to celebrate Aidiladha properly, but this is Allah's will. Every hardship has its wisdom and we must remain patient," he said.
The storm damaged 210 homes across four mukims namely Perak 2, Bangau, Mentakab 1 and Mentakab 2.
The Sultan also extended condolences to the families of two teenage girls killed in a road accident in Temerloh on June 11.
In a separate remark, the Sultan warned against following teachings that have been declared deviant by the Pahang Mufti Department, particularly the Ahmadiah sect.
"Why are there still people trying to spread this? We must hold firm to the teachings of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaah. This is what we've inherited from our elders and what the majority of Malaysians believe in," he said. - Bernama

Haze: Melaka Gov't Activates District Disaster Management Committees With Immediate Effect
MELAKA, July 21 (Bernama) -- The Melaka government, through the State Disaster Management Committee, has instructed that all District Disaster Management Committees be activated with immediate effect after several states in the country were affected by haze recently. The Melaka Chief Minister's Department's corporate communications division also said that the committees were required to take proactive measures according to guidelines set by the National Haze Action Plan. 'The Melaka government takes note of the haze that has hit several areas in the state, which is believed to be cross-border haze carried by south-westerly winds. 'Continuous monitoring of the Air Pollution Index (API) is being conducted by the Melaka Diaster Operations Control Centre with the help of the Melaka Environment Department (DOE) and the National Disaster Control Centre under the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA),' the department said in a statement today. The highest API readings recorded in Melaka as of 2 am were Alor Gajah (Particulate Matter (PM) 2.5 with a reading of 157), Bukit Rambai (PM2.5 with a reading of 94) and Bandaraya Melaka (PM2.5 with a reading of 86), indicating that Alor Gajah API was at unhealthy level, while Bukit Rambai and Bandaraya Melaka were at medium levels. The state government also advised the public to take precautionary measures in ensuring their general health. 'High risk groups like children, the elderly and individuals suffering from respiratory problems are advised to reduce outdoor activities for the time being. The public is also advised not to carry out any open burning,' it said in a statement today. In PEKAN, the Pahang government said it is prepared to implement school closures in the state if the API readings exceed the very unhealthy threshold. State Local Government, Housing, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman Datuk Mohammad Fakhruddin Mohd Ariff said this in response to reports of haze affecting two areas —Temerloh and Balok Baru in Kuantan — which recorded unhealthy API readings today.

Sarawak haze risk rises as biomass burning intensifies outside state
KUCHING: Sarawak may experience haze in the coming days if biomass burning outside the state worsens, warns the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB). The state's air quality has shown rising Air Pollutant Index (API) readings since July 19, with 15 areas now in the moderate range. NREB confirmed no unhealthy API readings yet but noted four hotspots in Sarawak between July 14 and 20. In contrast, Kalimantan recorded 114 hotspots, 93 in just the last two days. 'The southwest monsoon could bring transboundary haze, worsening Sarawak's air quality,' the board stated. To mitigate risks, NREB has activated its haze operations room, suspended controlled burning permits, and issued open burning prohibitions. Public awareness campaigns are ongoing, urging reduced outdoor activities and N95 mask use for high-risk groups. Open burning offenders face fines up to RM100,000 or five years' jail under Sarawak's environmental laws.
