Andhra Pradesh government fast-tracks TIDCO housing for poor people

ONGOLE: The State government is prioritising the completion of TIDCO housing units across the State, aiming to deliver 365 and 430 sq. ft. houses to beneficiaries by this Deepavali festival, announced Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD), P Narayana, on Friday. In a district-level review meeting at the Collectorate, the Minister confirmed that the long-delayed construction works had resumed, with L&T scheduled to begin work in Prakasam district within the next 15 days. MAUD Minister clarified that the TIDCO houses were categorised into 300 sq. ft., 365 sq. ft., and 430 sq. ft. units, and that the previous YSRCP government had left the scheme stalled. 'Despite bank loans being raised, many beneficiary accounts had turned into Non-Performing Assets (NPAs). Upon taking office, our alliance government paid Rs 140 crore to the bankers and got the scheme back on track,' he said. Narayana also revealed that the State is addressing the massive waste issue, with 85 lakh metric tons of garbage accumulated during the previous government's tenure. The government has already recycled 40 lakh tons and aims to clear the remaining waste by October 2. 'We are committed to providing safe drinking water, better sanitation, roads, and drainage facilities for urban citizens,' he said. The Minister also stated that the government is focusing on road expansion projects in Ongole, compensating affected families through TDR bonds. Despite the state's financial challenges, Narayana confirmed that under the leadership of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, the government has been able to secure central funds to drive its welfare and development agenda. 'We remain focused on fulfilling our promises, with plans to launch Anna Canteens in rural areas soon and generate 20 lakh job opportunities for the youth by attracting industrial giants to the state,' Narayana added.

TIDCO houses distribution by Diwali: Narayana

Ongole: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P Narayana announced that the pending construction works of TIDCO houses will be completed and houses will be handed over to the beneficiaries by Diwali festival. He held a review meeting on the activities related to Ongole Urban Development Authority at the Collectorate here on Friday. Later addressing the media, Minister Narayana explained that the TIDCO houses are being constructed in three categories with areas of 300, 365, and 430 square feet. He announced that houses measuring 365 and 430 square feet will be completed first and delivered to beneficiaries by Diwali. He alleged that the previous government had raised bank loans in beneficiaries' names without providing houses, leading to non-performing assets (NPAs) in bank accounts. After Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's instructions and paying Rs 140 crore to the banks, the Minister explained that the banks enabled the beneficiaries to take out fresh loans. He said the construction activities have commenced across the State, with L&T representatives expected to begin construction work in Prakasam district within the next 15 days. The MAUD Minister announced that four of the eight and a half million tons of waste accumulated State-wide during the previous government's tenure had been recycled already, and the remaining will be recycled by October 2. He informed that tenders have been called for to provide safe drinking water through taps in the State. He said that within four years, every household will receive water from surface sources like rivers rather than borewells. Narayana said for road expansion in Ongole, TDR (Transferable Development Rights) bonds will be provided to affected parties. He emphasised the government's commitment to creating 20 lakh jobs as promised, focusing on bringing industries to the state. He said that free bus travel for women will begin from August 15, as announced by the Chief Minister. He said that the government is coordinating with the Central government to provide financial assistance to farmers. He announced that they are planning to extend Anna Canteens, which are addressing hunger among the poor and currently serving 2.25 lakh people daily, to the rural areas. Joint Collector R Gopalakrishna, Markapur MLA K Narayana Reddy, Ongole Mayor Gangada Sujatha, Deputy Mayor Vemuri Suryanarayana, Ongole Municipal Commissioner K Venkateswar Rao, and Urban Development Authority officials attended the review meeting.

‘Trupti Canteens' to come up in Vijayawada soon

VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) will soon launch four 'Trupti Canteens' in the city to offer affordable, protein-rich food to the public and visitors. As a pilot project, firstly, four canteens will be inaugurated at Pujna Centre, BRTS Road, near D-Mart (Durgapuram), and close to Siddhartha College in Moghalrajapuram. These will operate from morning to night, with proposals under consideration to run them 24/7. The menu includes tiffin items such as idly, dosa, poori, and vegetarian and non-vegetarian biryani, priced between `20 and `70. Non-vegetarian items will be slightly costlier. The State government, under the 'One Family – One Entrepreneur' initiative, aims to set up 700 Trupti Canteens across Andhra Pradesh. As part of this initiative, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Ponguru Narayana inaugurated the first canteen in Nellore a few months ago. Encouraged by the positive public response, authorities plan to expand the initiative in urban areas, particularly Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. VMC will set up the canteens on municipal lands with support from the Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA) through the Sale of Articles of Rural Artisans Society (SARAS). Each canteen will operate from prefabricated iron containers measuring 24x16 feet. SARAS will supply both the containers and the kitchen equipment. Self-Help Group (SHG) women will operate the canteens. Each unit will be managed by four women from different groups. The total cost per canteen is Rs 14.50 lakh, with SHG members bearing 75% through bank loans and SARAS covering the remaining 25%. The women are expected to earn at least Rs 30,000 per month from the venture. Speaking to TNIE, Technical Expert (UCD, VMC) Sujatha said, 'Four women will work in two shifts at each canteen. If needed, they may take assistance from family members. VMC has allotted lands for these Trupti Canteens. Bank loans are available at general interest rates, with a 7% rebate on interest. Four canteens will be launched in the city soon.'
