Hearing a highly anticipated film getting delayed is not the thing a cinephile is happy about, nowadays it's like a trend of big films' release dates getting stretched. We have seen multiple films, and particularly some mega films getting delayed so often now as if when the makers announce the release day of the film, one has to be sure that they might get another date.
Time and again, films like 'The Raja Saab', 'Kingdom', 'Vishwambhara', 'Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-ups' and many more films have stumbled on their path to the big screen, with release dates being pushed back, sometimes multiple times.
Big budget films
In today's pan-India movie culture, regional movies are not just confined to regional markets. They are celebrated in the entire country and many parts of the world. These films are being made on a budget of around Rs 300 to Rs 600 crore or more and filmmakers aim for international-level VFX, multilingual shoots, and global storytelling.
But such scale brings complex logistical nightmares.
Taking the example of 2024's mythological sci-fi film, 'Kalki 2898', the film was set for 9 May 2024 release, however, it was postponed due to incomplete post-production, then again because of the national elections and finally was released on 27 June 2024. Director Nag Ashwin had to balance high VFX demands with festival-launch windows and India's busy political calendar.

The Hindu mythological film which was blended with the dystopian sci-fi required extensive post-production work, including visual effects for its futuristic setting and the creation of a unique AI humanoid vehicle, "Bujji.
"
Similarly, 'Game Changer', directed by Shankar, the movie had been in the making for around three years and had multiple scheduling hurdles involving Ram Charan, Shankar's commitments. Superstars juggling multiple projects, including pan-India, Bollywood cameos, and other events can also lead to a film missing its initial release date.
Even trailer launches or promotional schedules force shifts. The movie was further delayed due to director Shankar's commitments towards other projects, which as the Kamal Haasan starrer 'Indian 2' required more time and effort were needed.
Extensive work in the making
Speaking of one of the biggest films of 2024, 'Pushpa 2: The Rule', directed by Sukumar, was initially announced for an August 15, 2024, release but was postponed to December 6, 2024.
The sequel to the 2021 blockbuster 'Pushpa: The Rise' demanded a larger canvas, with Sukumar promising a "bigger and better film" that required more attention to detail. The production team faced challenges in coordinating massive action sequences and ensuring the film lived up to the hype the prequel of the film had instilled in the viewer's mind.
In these mega films, a lot of time is given to the film's post-production.
Delays come up once the editing, sound design, VFX, colour grading, and certification cycle of the film begins and sometimes can also take more time than the days the principal shooting went on. Taking, 'Pushpa 2: The Rule' example, the film saw a three-month leap from August 15 to December 6, 2024, with makers citing incomplete shooting and post-production work.
Later, even the "Reloaded" extended version scheduled for January 11, 2025, was pushed to January 17 due to content-processing delays.
Unforeseen injuries
As all these mega films heavily rely on the lead actor of the film, injuries to key cast members also contribute to delays. For 'Kalki 2898 AD', Amitabh Bachchan's rib injury in March 2023 halted production, as he was advised to rest in Mumbai. Similarly, Prabhas's knee surgery in 2022 delayed both 'Kalki 2898 AD' and 'Salaar', pushing back their schedules significantly. Prabhas recent injury also delayed the shooting of his upcoming films such as 'The Raja Saab' and a film with director Hanu Raghavapudi.
High expectations
At the same time after giving superhits and earning recognition worldwide, there's pressure on the actor and director to appeal to audiences across India and have a hold in the world audience.
Jr NTR's last film, 'Devara: Part 1,' directed by Koratala Siva and starring was initially set for an April 5, 2024, release but was postponed to September 27, 2024, to accommodate an extended underwater action sequence and ensure the film matched the scale of Jr.
NTR's previous hit, 'RRR'. Koratala Siva's focus on delivering a visually spectacular experience necessitated additional time for post-production and reshoots in Hindi to enhance its pan-India appeal.
'Vishwambhara', a fantasy entertainer directed by Vasshista and starring Chiranjeevi, faced delays due to its ambitious mythical realm, complete with unique creatures. The teaser alone generated mixed reactions, which made the team refine the film further to address audience concerns.
The film's release was adjusted to avoid clashing with 'Game Changer' during the Sankranti festival in 2025.
Another factor includes marketing a film. Misalignments between promo drop schedules and final product delivery can force last-minute postponements.
Ultimately, the delays in mega-films are due to the film's ambitious visions, some external disruptions and the pressure to deliver blockbusters that get appreciated by ever-changing audience preference to watch cinema.

"Ab aayega Captain Cool powder, oil, deodorant": Fans imagine the wackiest products Dhoni could launch

As news broke that former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni has filed a trademark application for the phrase 'Captain Cool', social media lit up with a flurry of hilarious and surprisingly informed reactions. The term, famously linked to Dhoni's unshakeable calm on the cricket field, is now set to become official property. According to the Trade Marks Registry portal, Dhoni's application, filed on June 5 and listed under Class 41 (sports training, coaching, and facilities), was accepted and advertised on June 16. While the trademark is focused on sports services, that didn't stop netizens from imagining a full-blown product universe. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like These Photos Captured the Exact Wrong Moment Read More Undo 'Ab aayega Captain Cool powder, oil, deodorant,' joked one user, summing up the mood online. — Being_Humor (@Being_Humor) Live Events On X (formerly Twitter), another user cheekily imagined a lineup of Captain Cool-branded underwear, condoms, and slippers, before clarifying that the registration is strictly for sports-related services: 'nothing cheeky like that just yet!' — ramnit1983 (@ramnit1983) Another user weighed in on the trend of celebrities trademarking fan-given nicknames: 'Next he'll trademark Thala. Aamir Khan is among the most loved Indian actors. His latest film Sitaare Zameen Par is doing well at the box office for the size of film that it is. The sports drama has collected Rs 195 crore globally by its second Sunday, surpassing the worldwide earnings of Aamir's 2008 blockbuster Ghajini, which earned Rs 194.60 crore. This achievement makes Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan's 6th highest-grossing film ever. Let's dive into how this film compares to his other hits on the global stage. Sitaare Zameen Par Has Crossed The Global Earnings Of Ghajini; Is Now Aamir Khan's 6th Highest Grosser After the underwhelming performance of Laal Singh Chaddha in 2022, which earned slightly over Rs 130 crore worldwide, Aamir Khan has made a good comeback. Sitaare Zameen Par, which tells the story of a basketball coach training players with special needs, has resonated deeply with many. It has reiterated that the actor still has a knack of what works and what doesn't, with the audience. Ghajini was a game-changer in 2008. It was the first Bollywood film to cross the Rs 100 crore mark in India, earning Rs 114 crore net domestically and Rs 194.60 crore worldwide. Its intense action and gripping story made it a massive hit. However, Sitaare Zameen Par has now overtaken it globally with Rs 195 crore. Ghajini continues to be a bigger hit because if adjusted for inflation, its India net numbers itself would be around Rs 400 crore, if not more. Sitaare Zameen Par now ranks as Aamir's 6th highest-grossing film worldwide. Here's how it compares to his top earners: (lead roles only) Rank Movie Worldwide Gross Collections 1 Dangal Rs 1910 crore 2 PK Rs 757 crore 3 Dhoom 3 Rs 554 crore 4 3 Idiots Rs 415 crore 5 Thugs Of Hindostan Rs 310 crore 6 Sitaare Zameen Par Rs 195 crore and counting.. Can Sitaare Zameen Par Cross Thugs Of Hindostan Worldwide? Sitaare Zameen Par is now behind Thugs Of Hindostan. With strong audience support and a release in non-traditional international markets, it might challenge for the 5th spot soon. If the movie does not breakout in non-traditional international markets, Thugs Of Hindostan will retain its 5th position. Sitaare Zameen Par In Theatres Sitaare Zameen Par plays in theatres. Viral: Man reveals how a technical glitch on Instagram almost ended his 12-year marriage

Image credits: Getty Images Until now, factors like cheating or lying could break up a marriage, but in a revelation going viral on Reddit, a man revealed how a technical glitch on Instagram almost ended his 12-year marriage. Taking to the relationships sub-thread on the social media app, a 34-year-old man shared how his wife, 32, almost broke up with him due to a harmless DM thread on Instagram he appeared to have sent during the weekend he was off-grid. He added how they resolved the issue but it showed the couple how fragile trust is and how scary technical glitches can be. The scary incident Image credits: Reddit "Hey Reddit, This might sound strange, but a silly bug on Instagram nearly ended my 12-year marriage." began the man in the post. He shared that he and his wife are from wife and have been together since college in Pune when they met during their B.A. days. Over the years, they tackled long-distance with her working in Hyderabad and him staying in Mumbai and even staying together through family pressure, hob stress and the loss of close ones. During all these years, trust had never been an issue for the couple but that changed two months ago when one evening they were chilling at home after dinner when his wife was scrolling through Instagram and suddenly gave him a "What is this?" look. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 한 달의 집중, 배우고 행동한 사람만이 느낀 변화 마크로헤지코리아 Undo Apparently, she had found a DM between him and a mutual friend of theirs which consisted of an old meme and some harmless banter. The problem here was the timestamp, wrote the man adding that according to Instagram, he had sent the message during a weekend when the couple were together at his wife's farmhouse in Lonavala, "completely off the grid, no mobile signal, no wifi" He added how his wife naturally got suspicious, considering it looked like he had lied about being offline and was secretly chatting with someone else. The difficult resolve Image credits: Getty Images The man added that he remembered that the conversation had happened months ago, way before the trip. He even found a screenshot in his gallery with the original date, but Instagram's glitch made it look recent and his wife didn't believe him. He shared how their relationship suffered with his wife becoming more distant and their usual "chai-time" conversations were replaced with awkward silences. He added feeling helpless with the effort of fighting something that looked "digitally true" Set on resolving the issue, he researched on Reddit, and tech forums and even approached Meta support. At that time, he found dozens of users, some even from India reporting the same bug: Instagram's DMs showing wrong timestamps, out-of-order messages and even replies appearing after the original message. He showed all the evidence to his wife and even recreated the glitch using another account. Gradually, she started believing him and they had a long, emotional conversation where it hit them how "fragile" trust can be and how quickly a few lines of code can shake a relationship. He shared his advice from the incident, suggesting people talk if something feels off in their relationship and not rely on what an app showed. "Sometimes it's not cheating, it's just bad software," he wrote.
