Hajiji: GRS chose unity govt after Borneo cooperation dismissed by past 'prominent leader'
"I had an experience with Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun and Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan when we met 'a prominent leader' in Kuala Lumpur.
"That person said they were the 'master' and expressed dislike towards the idea of a 'Borneo Bloc'.
"He also did not want us to share our experience and story with our neighbour, Sarawak.
"I was shocked by those words. It took me some time to think about it and to understand what he meant.
"I felt so disheartened by them. After much reflection, I decided that GRS should support the unity government," he said during his winding-up at Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah annual general assembly at the Sabah International Convention Centre here.
Hajiji, who is also Gagasan president, clarified that the 'prominent leader' is not part of the unity government.
The state chief minister said GRS would continue to support Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, as he had introduced many initiatives and upheld rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
"If the unity government is good for the state, why shouldn't we support it?"
Commenting on his visit to Jakarta with Anwar tomorrow, he said the trip would include discussions with the Indonesian government on development matters related to the Sulawesi Sea.
Hajiji also gave his assurance that the Sabah government would continue to pursue the state's entitlement to 40 per cent revenue, as enshrined in the Federal Constitution.

Wan Ahmad Farid has been appointed as the 17th Chief Justice of Malaysia, succeeding Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat, who retired on July 2. The appointment was made in line with Clause (1) of Article 122B of the Federal Constitution, with His Majesty's consent on the advice of the Prime Minister and after consultation with the Conference of Rulers. Abu Bakar, 63, meanwhile, is filling the vacancy of President of the Court of Appeal following the retirement of Tan Sri Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim on July 3, while Azizah, 63, replaces Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Sebli, who retired on July 24. Sarawak keen to support Nusantara's development through strategic collaboration
KUCHING: Sarawak has reaffirmed its commitment to contributing to the development of Indonesia's new capital, Nusantara, with a focus on clean energy, infrastructure, and cross-border economic collaboration. This was conveyed by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan during a roundtable dialogue held in Balikpapan between the Sarawak government and East Kalimantan on Saturday. Borneo Post reported that key areas of potential collaboration discussed included renewable energy, particularly hydropower and biomass, along with healthcare, education, tourism, infrastructure and trade facilitation. "Nusantara's ambition to achieve full renewable energy by 2045 aligns closely with Sarawak's clean energy aspirations, particularly in hydropower and biomass," said Awang Tengah. He said Sarawak is expanding its clean energy portfolio through hydroelectric, solar and biomass development, and sees synergy in potential collaboration in North and East Kalimantan. To enhance cross-border trade and investment, both parties are working toward the joint development of special economic zones and industrial parks at strategic border points, which are expected to strengthen connectivity and stimulate job creation. Awang Tengah also said that both governments are committed to exploring cooperation in sustainability and the circular economy, including joint conservation efforts, carbon trading initiatives and the adoption of green technologies. The dialogue also touched on efforts to boost tourism between the two regions through improved road networks, development of new airports and establishment of direct flight routes. A key outcome of the meeting was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Sarawak Business Federation (SBF) and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) to establish a Joint Task Force focused on strategic development initiatives. "This MoU marks a renewed commitment to collaborative growth, reinforcing our shared vision for a more integrated and prosperous Borneo," Awang Tengah said. He added that the roundtable dialogue had strengthened longstanding historical and cultural ties between Sarawak and Kalimantan, while reflecting Kalimantan's evolving economic landscape and diversification beyond traditional sectors. The Sarawak delegation included Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Deputy Minister Datuk Ripin Lamat, Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Datuk Seri Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, Economic Planning Unit director Datuk Lester Matthew, and senior government and industry representatives. [UPDATED] Fuziah: PH and BN tie up in Sabah set in stone, but cooperation with GRS welcomed
KOTA KINABALU: PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh has confirmed the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) alliance in Sabah for the upcoming state election. "PKR always welcomes cooperation with any party in facing the Sabah state election," she said. "PKR believes it is a win-win combination. It is a win for the people of Sabah, and also a win for all component parties in the cooperation," she told the New Straits Times. Yesterday, the Chief Minister and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor reiterated his commitment to work with Sabah PH for the upcoming state election. He attributed this willingness to work with PH to their leaders' support during the attempt to topple the GRS-led state government in 2023. However, Hajiji said that the people of Sabah should vote wisely to ensure GRS, a local-based coalition, dominates the political scene in the state. Sabah Parti Keadilan Rakyat chief Datuk Mustapha Sakmud had said that despite PH eyeing over 20 seats, both coalitions would still have to sit down to negotiate on which seats to contest.
