Renowned presenter Gabby Logan has opened up about a major family change, recently admitting that "it hasn't really hit me." Last year, the new Match of the Day presenter shared her emotions as she revealed she was struggling to prepare for the reality of having an "empty nest" for the first time, with her daughter, Lois, soon set to depart for Loughborough University.
Meanwhile, her twin brother, Reuben, had already left home a year earlier and is eager to follow in his dad's footsteps, having embarked on a rugby career with the Northampton Saints in 2023 before recently moving to Sale Sharks.
Opening up about the emotional shift in her life during an episode of her Mid Point podcast last August, Gabby shared how she expected to feel the impact of Lois's impending move away from home.
Explaining how her daughter's departure felt different from her son's, she said she was likely to go weeks without seeing Lois — unlike Reuben, who had still been able to return home every weekend.

Nearly a year on, Gabby has invited her husband, Kenny, back onto the podcast to discuss the changes in their lives over the past year. However, despite previously saying she expected to see much less of her daughter after she moved to university, Gabby said: "He's (Reuben) now been gone for two years, and Lois has now had a year at university. I don't feel like she's been away."

She added: "I feel like we're so busy, and she's been in and out all the time, that it hasn't really hit me at all — the kind of empty nest yet."

Gabby also reflected on how her son's career and her own are soon set to cross paths, following the recent announcement of his move to Sale Sharks, based in Greater Manchester.
It coincides with her own upcoming role on Match of the Day, after it was confirmed earlier this year that she will be joining Mark Chapman and Kelly Cates as a presenter on the show from August, based at its Salford studio.

Before landing the Match of the Day role, Gabby was already one of the most recognised faces in sports broadcasting, having been part of the presenting teams for major events including the 2012 London Olympics, European Championships, World Cups, and Champions League finals.

However, many also know her for her hugely successful Mid Point podcast, which has featured high-profile guests including Sir Chris Hoy, Claudia Winkleman, Krishnan Guru-Murthy, and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.
Gabby is set to return to our screens later today

Gabby will return to our screens tonight at 7 p.m. as she hosts BBC One's coverage of the UEFA Women's Euro 2025 game between Switzerland and Norway.

Wayne Rooney 'lands £800,000 BBC deal to be Match of the Day regular' with ex-England captain seemingly set to focus on media over management
Wayne Rooney looks set to swap the dugout for the studio, with a report claiming the former England captain has landed a lucrative deal to become a regular pundit on Match of the Day. The 39-year-old has been out of management since leaving Plymouth Argyle by mutual consent on New Year's Eve after a challenging seven-month spell in charge. It was his fourth managerial role in as many years, following stints with Derby County, DC United and Birmingham City. Rooney has made no secret of his enjoyment of punditry since stepping back from coaching, appearing on Amazon Prime Video for Champions League coverage and joining the BBC as a guest on Match of the Day. Speaking to talkSPORT last month, he appeared to hint that his immediate future would involve more media work than management. He told the radio station: 'Obviously just doing some TV work at the minute, so that's what I'm doing. I'm enjoying it. So, that's where I'll be.' According to The Sun, Rooney will earn £800,000 over two years with the BBC and is set to be unveiled later this month after impressing during his guest appearances. The deal apparently also includes a role in the broadcaster's coverage of the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, plus the option of a further two-year extension. Rooney's imminent arrival comes as Match of the Day moves into a new era following Gary Lineker's departure, with the BBC looking to refresh its punditry team alongside presenters Kelly Cates, Mark Chapman and Gabby Logan. Insiders are said to have described Rooney as 'warm, witty and forensically knowledgeable', with his insight seen as a valuable addition as the show adapts in the streaming age. Rooney's move also comes as wife Coleen continues to expand her own media profile, having reportedly signed a £10million deal with Disney for a family documentary featuring the couple and their four sons.

Wayne Rooney 'lands £800,000 Match of the Day deal' after Gary Lineker's exit
Match of the Day is said to be welcoming a very famous face to its presenting roster following Gary Lineker's exit. Wayne Rooney has reportedly signed a big-money deal with the BBC in a bid to start a new chapter away from football management. It's said the former England player, 39, has secured £800,000 for the gig, which will see him appear on MOTD for two years with the possibility of an extension. What's more, Rooney should be involved in the show's 2026 World Cup coverage, jetting to the US, Canada, and Mexico to bring viewers the highlights. A source told The Sun about the rumoured punditry deal: 'Wayne is a natural broadcaster; he is warm, witty, and forensically knowledgeable about all aspects of the game. 'He still has a deep love for football and also gets on well with everyone on both sides of the camera.' They added: 'He is eminently likeable and has impressed on his outings to date—viewers have also really taken to him, which has been clear from social media commentary. 'Wayne will be a key part of next year's World Cup coverage, which is a massive coup, and will provide some much-needed expertise on Match of the Day in the wake of Gary's departure.' It's believed that 'everyone', including the Beeb's Director of Sport, Alex Kay-Jelski, is 'incredibly excited to get him on board', with the insider declaring it a 'great signing'. Rooney's new MOTD role will reportedly be unveiled officially later this month. Whispers actually began at the start of the year, with the same publication claiming Rooney was in talks for a MOTD slot as early as January. At the time, he was freshly sacked from his fourth management job, having secured just one win with Plymouth Argyle in 14 games. It was later reported that Rooney was looking to venture further into punditry, and it was said the role could've earned him up to £200,000 a year, depending on how many appearances he were to make. But now, that figure looks to have increased drastically. Having already proven he can talk the talk in various guest appearances previously, Rooney's next role is likely a natural progression. It also takes him and wife Coleen one step closer to a total TV takeover, given how she reportedly signed a £10million deal with Disney in March to star in a documentary with Wayne and their four sons: Kai, 15, Klay, 11, Kit, eight, and Cass, six. Rooney is widely considered one of Britain's greatest-ever footballers. Not only was he Manchester United's best goalscorer with 253 goals, but he was also England's record goalscorer from 2015 to 2023. He retired from professional footie in 2021 after being appointed permanent manager of Derby, and now frequently dabbles in punditry. By joining MOTD this year, he is part of a huge shake-up at the long-running programme, which was hosted by Lineker, 64, for 26 years. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video The broadcaster fronted his final show on May 26, visibly tearful as he reflected on his career and thanked those with whom he had worked. Lineker confirmed he would be leaving the BBC completely after catching backlash for sharing an Instagram Story about Zionism. More Trending His since-deleted post featured a rat emoji, which has been historically used as an antisemitic trope. The host later issued an unreserved apology for the 'hurt and upset caused' by the video, stating it was a 'genuine mistake' and that he was unaware of the meaning behind it. In his place, Gabby Logan, Kelly Cates, and Mark Chapman will share the presenting role on Match of the Day from the next Premier League season.
