Democratic senator laments party's messaging problem as ratings plummet to 30-year low
Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., acknowledged that the Democratic Party had a messaging problem on Sunday when confronted with a poll that found the party had its lowest favorability rating in nearly three decades. "We have to fix this. I don't put a ton of stock into polls, especially this far away from an election, but we certainly do have a problem, and it's a messaging problem," Kelly told CNN's Jake Tapper. The Wall Street Journal released a poll on Sunday that found just 63% of voters have an unfavorable view of the Democratic Party — the highest unfavorable rating the party has received in the WSJ's poll since 1990. "It's important to get out there and talk to people about the issues that they care about," he said. Kelly explained that he has spoken to Americans in different states about the "big, beautiful bill" and how it might affect them. "So myself and my wife, Gabby, you know, sat there in front of a large group and took some questions from them and tried to explain to them, you know, what's going to happen to Medicaid, what's going to happen to food assistance through SNAP. And there were folks here that I got the sense that these programs directly are going to affect them and their family members, and they do deserve an explanation from somebody in the United States Congress," Kelly said. The WSJ poll found that just 33% of registered voters have a favorable view of the Democratic Party. Tapper also asked Kelly about the Democratic Party's official X account attempting to describe rising grocery prices under "Trump's America" using a graph dating from October 2019 to 2025. The graph claimed that "U.S. Grocery Prices Reached Record Highs in 2025" with prices "higher today than they were on July 2024" in categories such as dairy, produce and meat. However, many X users pointed out that the graph, in fact, showed prices skyrocketing in 2021 when Biden was president and only leveling off at the end of 2024 when President Donald Trump was re-elected. "So I wonder if you think Democrats have figured out their problems, both in terms of communications and also acknowledging that Biden-era inflation, for example, is one of the reasons why your party is out of power?" Tapper asked after noting that the Democratic Party had deleted the post. He agreed and said, "Yeah, I think that's fair. There was inflation during the Biden Administration. I tracked this pretty closely." Kelly said he saw the price of eggs and ground beef increase during former President Biden's administration before warning about Trump's tariff policy. "But I think what's important for the American people to know is that Donald Trump's tariff policy is very likely to increase costs. It takes some time because the supply chains stuff from coming from, you know, in some cases from all over the planet. And his trade policy for my constituents in Arizona, there are a lot of products that come across the southern border, agricultural products that create thousands and thousands of jobs, not only in Arizona, but in the state of Texas," Kelly said. Kelly said they were experiencing job loss in Arizona.

Gabby Logan recalls crushing low point after brutal Strictly Come Dancing exit
Gabby Logan has cast her mind back to her experiences on the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing - and admits she was left fearing the nation hated her as she failed to secure votes Gabby Logan has candidly reflected on a time she felt she was deeply unpopular. The 52-year-old radio and television presenter is best known for hosting sports programs for the BBC, ITV and Channel 5. In August this year, she will land arguably her biggest job to date - as a new host of Match of the Day following the exit of controversial footballer Gary Lineker. But it is not just giving her two pence about on-pitch action that has drawn attention to Gabs. She has also enjoyed a foray into the world of competitive reality shows - popping up to present shows like the diving competition Splash! and celebrity sheep herding show Flockstars. Back in 2007, however, Gabby stepped out from behind her presenting lectern to be a contestants on hit show Strictly Come Dancing. The star was partnered with professional dancer James Jordan and, being season five of the long-running show, this was the time when Tess Daly and the late Sir Bruce Forsyth were hosts of the show. The judging panel consisted of Arlene Phillips, Craig Revel Horwood, Bruno Tonioli and the late Len Goodman. While Gabby made it through three rounds of the show before she was voted off, she is convinced that she became a hate figure during her time on the ballroom floor. She featured on the series at the same time as her husband, Kenny Logan - was also competing with Gabby's dance partner James' wife Ola Jordan. Wales Online quotes Gabby saying: "I had an amazing experience on Strictly, I was only on it for a few weeks, but I had an amazing experience — but also, a kind of life-changing experience in many ways." She elaborated: "[It] sounds a bit dramatic, and you hear people going 'Strictly changed my life', but this wasn't in a good way." Giving more clarity, she went on: "When you get voted out of Strictly, it's so shocking, because you go in every week starting to work on your following week's dance, and you don't expect to go home." And she revealed she was left being "very much aware that people didn't like" her during her time on the show. She also told Jessica Ennis on the Gold Minds podcast: "It was the fact that obviously people didn't vote for me — and it sounds a bit pathetic — but you realise when it's a reality show that it's about whether people like you. And I was very much aware that people didn't like me. "I was kind of like, they didn't like me enough to vote for me... It was a very sobering kind of experience because in the days afterwards, not only was I dreadfully missing the dancing, but also realising I kind of felt like, 'Oh, what was it about me that people didn't relate to?'" While Gabby and James crashed out in week four, her rugby star husband managed to make it through five more weeks before he too was voted off. Their season was awash with big name star - with Sir Rod Stewart's wife, Penny Lancaster, acting legend Stephanie Beacham, and model bombshell Kelly Brook were among those taking to the dance floor. The finalists that season included EastEnders star Matt Di Angelo and TV presenter Gethin Jones. While Mis-Teeq singer Alesha Dixon proved to be the victor of the show - and later became a judge on the series before being poached to judge on Britain's Got Talent.

The BBC presenter, who is usually seen delivering sports coverage, showed off her moves on the dance floor with pro dancer James Jordan, while her husband Kenny Logan was also competing, partnered with James' wife, Ola Jordan. Now 52, Gabby reflected on her stint in the competition: "I had an amazing experience on Strictly, I was only on it for a few weeks, but I had an amazing experience — but also, a kind of life-changing experience in many ways. "[It] sounds a bit dramatic, and you hear people going 'Strictly changed my life', but this wasn't in a good way." Despite her affection for the show, Gabby admitted she struggled with being voted off and pondered why she didn't connect with the audience, reports Wales Online. She recounted the shock of elimination: "When you get voted out of Strictly, it's so shocking, because you go in every week starting to work on your following week's dance, and you don't expect to go home," she said. Gabby, who had been scoring well at the time of her departure, found herself unexpectedly in the bottom two against Penny Lancaster. Ultimately, the judges decided to save Rod Stewart's wife, Penny, bringing Gabby's journey to an abrupt end in the fourth week. Gabby opened up on the Gold Minds podcast with Jessica Ennis about her time on the reality show, revealing: "It was the fact that obviously people didn't vote for me — and it sounds a bit pathetic — but you realise when it's a reality show that it's about whether people like you. And I was very much aware that people didn't like me." She admitted feeling rejected by the public, saying: "I was kind of like, they didn't like me enough to vote for me." Despite reassurances from James, Gabby confessed she felt "upset" over the situation. Reflecting on the aftermath, she said: "It was a very sobering kind of experience because in the days afterwards, not only was I dreadfully missing the dancing, but also realising I kind of felt like, 'Oh, what was it about me that people didn't relate to?'" Gabby discussed the speculation around her competitive nature possibly playing a role in her departure from the show. Adding to the sting of her exit, Gabby noted that her husband stayed in the competition, despite her opinion that he was "rubbish" at dancing. Her husband, a former rugby player, narrowly escaped elimination several times, saved by the judges' decisions, until his journey ended just before the quarter-finals. Gabby revealed that her husband offered to swap places with her after seeing how deeply affected she was by the elimination — although such a switch was, of course, not permitted. The season concluded with Alesha Dixon triumphing. She later joined the judging panel, taking over from Arlene Phillips. Next month, the BBC will begin unveiling the names of the new batch of celebrities keen to clinch the Glitterball trophy.

Ngwenya sees Sithole-like recovery for injured Banyana star

SAFA Chief Medical Officer and CAF Medical Committee Vice-President, Dr Thulani Ngwenya, remains optimistic about Gabriela Salgado's chances of making a full recovery following the serious leg injury she sustained at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations. Salgado's Banyana injury Salgado suffered a broken leg during Banyana Banyana's semi-final defeat to Nigeria on Tuesday evening. The 27-year-old has since undergone successful surgery in Morocco. Dr Ngwenya likened the nature of her injury to that of Bafana Bafana midfielder Sphephelo Sithole, who was sidelined last September with a career-threatening injury. ALSO READ: Pirates confirm Lepasa exit Sithole also suffered a leg break during South Africa's 3-2 win over South Sudan in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. He has since recovered and is ready to return to competitive football ahead of the new season in Portugal. 'It is a complete leg break. When she went up, her foot was firmly in the ground and because of that, there was a heavy force from the Nigerian athlete on her. If the foot was not on the ground, perhaps the break could have been avoided,' Ngwenya said on Radio 2000. 'This is also most common for female athletes because of the bone density. The bone density is very low for female athletes because of their cycle and that's why we always advocate for good nutrition to strengthen the bone and ligaments. 'Remember that we have also seen it with Sphephelo during an AFCON qualifier, he suffered the same injury and had to be transported back to South Africa to be operated on and he's back in action. With Gabby I'm confident that she will recover. 'Similar to Yaya' 'When they come back (to South Africa) on Monday, we'll start with the rehabilitation process and within six months, Gabby will be back playing again. Yes, she will be out for four to six months. I can almost guarantee you and the entire nation that she will come back because she's only 27. 'Yaya is playing again now and ready to be selected. We almost had a similar injury with Refiloe Jane and she's back playing even though it was ligaments.
