8 killed, 18 injured in bus overturn accident on Islamabad-Lahore motorway
The accident occurred around 7:13 a.m. local time when a Lahore-bound bus travelling from Islamabad suffered a front-left tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle, said Rescue 1122 officials in Chakwal district.
The bus, carrying an estimated 35 to 40 passengers, flipped near the Balkasar Interchange. Emergency responders, including six rescue vehicles and five ambulances, were immediately dispatched to the site and arrived within five minutes.

According to final emergency data, eight people died in the incident, including a 14-year-old girl, a 2-year-old child, and an 8-month-old infant. Eighteen others sustained injuries ranging from head trauma and fractures to abrasions.
The injured and deceased were shifted to the Trauma Centre in Kallar Kahar and the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Chakwal.
Motorway Police and rescue teams completed recovery operations, using a crane to remove and stabilise the overturned vehicle.
No first aid cases were treated on site, as all injured passengers were shifted for further medical attention.

Nissan has halted production of three models for Canada at two US plants, Nikkei reports
TOKYO: Nissan Motor has suspended production of three vehicle models for Canada at its Tennessee and Mississippi plants amid mutual tariffs imposed by the US and Canada on auto exports, the Nikkei reported on Wednesday. The production halt, which began in May, affects the Pathfinder and Murano SUVs made in Tennessee and the Frontier pickup trucks produced in Mississippi, the report said. Nissan was not immediately able to comment on the report, a spokesperson said. The Trump administration imposed 25% additional tariffs on auto imports in April, prompting Canada to implement retaliatory tariffs. Mazda Motor also halted Canada-bound production at its Alabama plant while boosting production for the US market, the company said in May. Nissan shares were trading down 3.0% by mid-morning in Tokyo, underperforming a 0.14% fall in the benchmark Nikkei index.

South Korean shares end higher as pharma stocks jump on government's support pledge
SEOUL: Round-up of South Korean financial markets: South Korean shares closed nearly 1% higher on Wednesday, as biopharmaceutical stocks jumped on a government pledge of policy support to help mitigate the impact of US tariffs. The benchmark KOSPI closed up 0.91%, or 23.78 points, at 2,625.58. The pharmaceutical sector rose 4.54% and was the biggest gaining sub-index. Drugmaker Samsung Biologics advanced 7.11%, its biggest one-day percentage gain since July 2023, while peer Celltrion added 0.84%. South Korea pledged more support measures for key export industries, such as biopharmaceuticals and autos, as the sweeping US tariffs weigh on the trade-reliant economy. 'The government's plan to swiftly inject liquidity into the sectors, upon the announcement of US semiconductor and pharmaceutical tariffs, raised fiscal policy hopes and relief,' said Lee Kyoung-min, an analyst at Daishin Securities. During the first 20 days of this month, South Korea's exports fell 2.4%, as US-bound shipments dropped 14.6%, dragged down by autos, auto parts and steel products, data showed. Most other index heavyweights fell, including chipmaker Samsung Electronics and peer SK Hynix, which ended down 0.36% and 0.74%, respectively. Hyundai Motor dropped 0.79%, battery maker LG Energy Solution declined 0.72%, while steelmaker POSCO Holdings shed 0.21%. Of the total 936 traded issues, 540 shares advanced, while 335 declined. Foreigners were net buyers of shares worth 205.8 billion won ($148.45 million). The won was quoted at 1,387.2 per US dollar on the onshore settlement platform, 0.52% higher than its previous close at 1,394.4.
