Man arrested after suspected homicide on Vancouver Island
Major crime detectives on Vancouver Island have opened a homicide investigation after a man was found with fatal injuries near the coastal community of Port Renfrew.
A statement from the Sooke RCMP says officers were called to a report of a man with blood on him near Pachidah Road shortly after 9 p.m. on Monday.
When police arrived at the scene, they found another man 'who despite life-saving measures, was later confirmed to be deceased,' the statement said.
Investigators determined the man's death was likely a homicide and contacted the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit, which has taken conduct of the investigation.
One man was arrested at the scene, according to police.
'Evidence collected at this stage of the investigation suggest this was an isolated incident,' Island District RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Alex Bérubé said in the statement Wednesday.
'The investigation remains ongoing and no further information can be released at this time.'
Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact the VIIMCU information line at 250-380-6211.
