Inspired By Granddaughter, 71-Year-Old Bank Retiree From Jaipur Cracks ICAI CA Finals 2025

When most people at 71 are preparing to wind down, Jaipur's Tarachand Agarwal decided to chase a dream he had long set aside. On July 6, when the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) announced the CA Final 2025 results, Agarwal's name wasn't just among the 14,247 candidates who cleared the exam; it became the most talked-about.
A retired banker from the erstwhile State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur (SBBJ), Agarwal didn't return to academics for a job or a promotion. His motivation came from a deeply personal place, his granddaughter. As she began preparing for her CA exams, Tarachand found himself drawn back to books, ledgers, balance sheets, and tax codes.
'Where there is a will, there is a way," wrote CA Nikhilesh Kataria, who shared Agarwal's journey on LinkedIn. The post quickly went viral, earning Agarwal the affectionate title of 'Dadaji Hero" online. 'It is amazing to become a CA at 71, there is no age to learn," commented one user. Another said, 'Not everyone has this courage." The comment section flooded with admiration and applause, as thousands drew inspiration from a man who defied convention.
See the viral post:
Agarwal, by his own admission, did not plan to sit for the exam when he first picked up the books. He began studying only to support his granddaughter. But somewhere along the way, he realised his long-buried dream was still alive. Despite battling age-related fatigue and a weakening memory, he persevered and passed one of India's most demanding professional exams.
While this year's CA Final results also saw Ranjan Kabra from Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra, secure All India Rank 1 with 516 marks (86%) out of 600, it is Agarwal's story that has stolen hearts. Also in the top three are Nishtha Bothra (AIR-2) and Manav Rakesh Shah (AIR-3), but social media clearly has one favourite – the 71-year-old grandfather who refused to let age define him.
Tarachand's life before CA was already rich in accomplishment. Yet, this milestone has given it new meaning. His journey stands in sharp contrast to the endless online chatter about elite packages from IITs and IIMs, or UPSC toppers making it at 25.

'India Our Closest Partner, It Is Even Better Now': Maldives President Muizzu

Last Updated: News18 spoke with Mohamed Muizzu at the Republic Square in Malé, soon after PM Modi left following a two-day state visit Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu told News18 in an exclusive conversation on Saturday that India is his country's 'closest partner" and the new Rs 5,000 crore credit line announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit will greatly help the archipelagic country. News18 spoke with Muizzu at the Republic Square in Malé, soon after PM Modi left following a two-day state visit. 'India is our closest partner, of course. I'm sure it is even better now," Muizzu said. The President said that the Maldives was looking forward to the completion of the free trade agreement (FTA) with India. Both countries announced during PM Modi's visit that they will begin negotiations over the FTA. 'Once completed, the FTA will be very beneficial for traders of both countries. We are looking forward to it," Muizzu told News18. He also described the new Rs 5,000 crore credit line from India as a big help. Muizzu, in fact, told News18 how his government plans to utilise this aid. 'We have earmarked a lot of crucial projects to carry out with that. For example, hospitals, housing development, infrastructure, schools. So, it will definitely help," Muizzu said in the interview. The Maldives President also expressed his 'utmost thanks" to PM Modi for coming on this visit. 'We are very grateful to the PM," Muizzu told News18. These comments from Muizzu are a remarkable turnaround from 2023, when he came to power in the Maldives on an 'Out India" plank, and some of his ministers made uncharitable remarks on India in 2024. Muizzu also made state visits to Turkey and China before India, changing an old convention where a Maldives President always paid his first visit to India. But foreign minister S Jaishankar's visit to the Maldives last year, followed by Muizzu's state visit to India in October, brought bilateral relations back on track. view comments First Published: July 26, 2025, 19:13 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Ahmedabad Plane Crash: Air India Provides Interim Compensation To Families Of 168 Victims

Last Updated: Air India said it has released the interim compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the families of 147 passengers and 19 on-ground victims of the June 12 Ahmedabad plane crash. Ahmedabad Plane Crash: Over a month after the deadly plane crash in Ahmedabad, Air India on Saturday said it has released the interim compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the families of 168 victims – 147 passengers and 19 people on the ground – so far, and the requisite documents of 52 others have been verified. Air India flight AI 171, operated with Boeing 787-8, en route to London Gatwick, crashed soon after takeoff from Ahmedabad on June 12, killing 241 of the 242 passengers onboard and another 19 on the ground. All victims were identified, and their bodies were handed over to the families for the last rites. In a statement, Air India said, 'Over a month ago, Air India started releasing interim payment of Rs 25 lakh to the affected families, to help them meet their immediate financial needs. The interim payment will be adjusted against any final compensation." 'Air India has, so far, released the interim compensation to the families of 147 of the 229 deceased passengers and also the 19 who lost their lives at the accident site. In addition, the requisite documents of 52 others have been verified, to whose families the interim compensation will be released progressively." 'The Trust will also provide aid and assistance for alleviation of any trauma or distress suffered by the first responders, medical and disaster relief professionals, social workers, and governmental staff who provided invaluable institutional support and service in the aftermath of the accident," said Air India in its statement. Last month, Air India said a centralised helpdesk had been activated to assist families in processing claims for the interim compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the families of the victims and the sole survivor, and to help address immediate financial needs. The interim compensation began being released from June 20, which will be in addition to Rs 1 crore to the Rs 1 crore payment announced by the Tata Group. On Tuesday, Air India said it has completed the 'precautionary" inspection of the locking mechanism of the fuel control switch (FCS) on its Boeing 787 and 737 aircraft fleet, and no issues were found. This came after aviation safety regulator DGCA last week directed airlines to inspect the fuel switch locking system in their Boeing 787 and 737 planes by July 21 after the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) said in its preliminary report that fuel switches were cut off before the Air India plane crash last month. Agency: PTI Last Updated: New Delhi, Jul 26 (PTI) Private sector IDFC First Bank on Saturday reported a 32 per cent slump in net profit to Rs 463 crore during the first quarter of the current financial year, impacted by slippages in the micro-finance book. The Mumbai-based lender had earned a net profit of Rs 681 crore in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year. The total income rose to Rs 11,869 crore during the June quarter of 2025-26 from Rs 10,408 crore in the same quarter of FY25, IDFC First Bank said in a regulatory filing. Interest earned by the bank improved to Rs 9,642 crore compared to Rs 8,789 crore in the June quarter FY25. Net interest income also increased to Rs 4,933 crore during the quarter against Rs 4,695 crore in the year-ago period. However, net NPAs, or bad loans, improved to 0.55 per cent against 0.59 per cent in the year-ago period. Provisions for the quarter rose significantly to Rs 1,659 crore compared to Rs 994 crore in the same period of the previous fiscal due to slippages in the micro-finance book.
